Given the sericin's neuroprotective effects on different experimental models, this study aimed to address whether sericin is able to reduce LH-induced behavioral and molecular changes in the mouse model. Sixty male mice (3 months old) were randomly divided into control, normal saline (NS), and/or different doses of sericin (Ser [100, 200, and 300 mg/kg]) for 21 days. Accordingly, the animals in NS and sericin-treated groups were subjected to 1 day learned helplessness protocol. Behavioral deficits were evaluated and alterations in both synaptic and apoptotic factors were evaluated in the hippocampus. However, short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) are registered in Annex A of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. Therefore, since an accurate quantitative determination of SCCPs is crucial to monitor the level of pollution, analysis quality assurance with reference materials is needed. In this study, a reference material (RM), NMIJ RM 4076-a, was developed by the National Metrology Institute of Japan at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (NMIJ/AIST) for the quantification of SCCPs. We determined the mass fraction of SCCPs by subtracting the impurities quantified using the mass-balance method, a combination of gas chromatography-flame ionization detection, Karl Fischer titrations, headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and thermal gravimetric analysis. The mass fraction value of NMIJ RM 4076-a was concluded to be 0.9996 kg/kg. The standard uncertainty of this mass fraction was evaluated on the basis of the mass-balance method, the sample homogeneity, and stability obtained using the above analytical techniques. Accordingly, the expanded uncertainty estimated using a coverage factor of k = 2 was found to be 0.0013 kg/kg. The mass fraction of chlorine and the homologue compositional ratios are also given for this RM as supplementary technical information. This RM is expected to be applicable for use in the calibration of instruments, or for checking the validity of analytical methods or instruments for estimating the comparability of SCCP analyses.Population in South Asia is increasing ever than a faster rate, subsequently; food security, climate change, and capital intensive agro farming techniques are the prevailing challenges in this region. The coal dust wettability strengthened by surface active ionic liquid was studied in this paper. The surface activity of ten ionic liquids with different anions Cl-, Br-, [BF4]-, [NTf2]- and cations [HOEtMIm]+, [Cnmim]+ (n = 4, 12, 14, 16) was studied by surface tension test. The water wettability of raw coal dust can be improved individually by adding ionic liquid to water or pre-treating coal dust by ionic liquids. The wettability of lignite was improved little, but that of bituminous coal and anthracite were improved much. The dual strengthened effects of ionic liquids on coal dust wettability were studied by the wetting results between ionic liquids solutions and ionic liquid-treated coal samples. The wettability of lignite can be strengthened under the combined action of [HOEtMIm][NTf2] and [C12MIm]Br, while other dual effects were not satisfactory. All ionic liquids combination had strengthened effects on the wettability of bituminous coal and anthracite, especially the [C12MIm]Br treatment and [C12MIm]Br solutions together had the best dual effects. The functional groups results indicated that the hydrophilic oxygen-containing functional groups in treated coal samples increased, the hydrophobic aliphatic hydrocarbon functional groups decreased and part of ionic liquids were adsorbed on the coal surface. These changes together enhanced the wettability of coal with high coalification degrees.The effects of three relevant organic pollutants chlorpyrifos (CPF), a widely used insecticide, triphenyl phosphate (TPHP), employed as flame retardant and as plastic additive, and bisphenol A (BPA), used primarily as plastic additive, on sea urchin (Paracentrotus lividus) larvae, were investigated. Experiments consisted of exposing sea urchin fertilized eggs throughout their development to the 4-arm pluteus larval stage. The antioxidant enzymes glutathione reductase (GR) and catalase (CAT), the phase II detoxification enzyme glutathione S-transferase (GST), and the neurotransmitter catabolism enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) were assessed in combination with responses at the individual level (larval growth). CPF was the most toxic compound with 10 and 50% effective concentrations (EC10 and EC50) values of 60 and 279 μg/l (0.17 and 0.80 μM), followed by TPHP with EC10 and EC50 values of 224 and 1213 μg/l (0.68 and 3.7 μM), and by BPA with EC10 and EC50 values of 885 and 1549 μg/l (3.9 and 6.8 μM). Sensors, embedded and smart devices in water plants require proactive monitoring for optimal performance. Traditional quality and device management require huge investments in time, manual efforts, labour, and resources. This research presents an IoT-based real-time framework to perform water quality management, monitor, and alert for taking actions based on contamination and toxic parameter levels, device and application performance as the first part of the proposed work. Machine learning models analyze water quality trends and device monitoring and management architecture. The results display that the proposed method manages water monitoring and accessing water parameters efficiently than other works.The uncontrolled industrialization and unrestricted textile production combined with inappropriate effluent treatment services in developing countries like Pakistan have multiplied the number of harmful effluent discharge. These effluents are enriched with dyes, heavy metal ions, and other hazardous materials that are poisonous and carcinogenic to living organisms. For that reason, the utilization of economic and efficient control techniques against such pollutants is imperative to protect natural resources. The triple algal role for phycoremediation of textile effluent was utilized in this study to make it suitable for irrigation and higher biofuel production. Locally isolated two strains, CKW1 (Spirogyra sp.) and PKS33 (Cladophora sp.), were used to treat the effluent collected from the direct outlets of the textile industries. The treated effluent was then tested for its toxicity and applied to wheat at initial stage grown under axenic conditions to check its effect on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) vegetative growth and development. Finally, the algal biomass obtained after treatment was subjected to trans-esterification for predicting the amount of biodiesel production. Study outcomes revealed that the algal strains were able to decolorize the effluent entirely within 96-120 h. Compared to un-treated textile effluent, the phycoremediated wastewater application to wheat plants enhanced the plant biomass by 80%. Lastly, the production of biodiesel from algal biomass attained after phycoremediation was 35% less to algal biomass obtained under normal growth conditions. It can be concluded that the algal use helps to treat the contaminated effluent and marks them re-usable for irrigating plants and producing biomass which could be utilized for biodiesel production.Intravenous (IV) ketamine is increasingly used off-label at subanesthetic doses for its rapid antidepressant effect, and intranasal (IN) esketamine has been recently approved in several countries for treating depression. The clinical utility of these treatments is limited by a paucity of publicly funded IV ketamine and IN esketamine programs and cost barriers to private treatment programs, as well as the drug cost for IN esketamine itself, which makes generic ketamine alternatives an attractive option. Though evidence is limited, use of non-parenteral racemic ketamine formulations (oral, sublingual, and IN) may offer more realistic access in less rigidly supervised settings, both for acute and maintenance treatment in select cases. However, the psychiatric literature has repeatedly cautioned on the addictive potential of ketamine and raised caution for both less supervised and longer-term use of ketamine. To date, these concerns have not been discussed in view of available evidence, nor have they been discussed within a broader clinical context. This paper examines the available relevant literature and suggests that ketamine misuse risks appear not dissimilar to those of other well-established and commonly prescribed agents with abuse potential, such as stimulants or benzodiazepines. As such, ketamine prescribing should be considered in a similar risk/benefit context to balance patient access and need for treatment with concern for potential substance misuse. Our consortium of mood disorder specialists with significant ketamine prescribing experience considers prescribing of non-parenteral ketamine a reasonable clinical treatment option in select cases of treatment-resistant depression. This paper outlines where this may be appropriate and makes practical recommendations for clinicians in judicious prescribing of non-parenteral ketamine.
