Research into the early response to spinal cord injuries discovered an integral role pertaining to mTORC1 signaling in the account activation associated with sensory base progenitor tissue.
Innovative approaches to the dissemination of evidence-based COVID-19 health messages are urgently needed to counter social media misinformation about the pandemic. To this end, we designed a short, wordless, animated global health communication video (the CoVideo), which was rapidly distributed through social media channels to an international audience.

The objectives of this study were to (1) establish the CoVideo's effectiveness in improving COVID-19 prevention knowledge, and (2) establish the CoVideo's effectiveness in increasing behavioral intent toward COVID-19 prevention.

In May and June 2020, we enrolled 15,163 online participants from the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain. We randomized participants to (1) the CoVideo arm, (2) an attention placebo control (APC) arm, and (3) a do-nothing arm, and presented 18 knowledge questions about preventive COVID-19 behaviors, which was our first primary endpoint. To measure behavioral intent, our second primary endpoint, we randovative features that could inform the design and dissemination of public health messages. Short, wordless, animated videos, distributed by health authorities via social media, may be an effective pathway for rapid global health communication during health crises.

RR2-10.1186/s13063-020-04942-7.Hematological malignancies rarely present with spontaneous haematomas (Lakhotia et al., 2015 [1]). Although cutaneous and mucous membrane bleeds do occur in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) due to quantitative or qualitative platelet abnormalities, deep soft tissue bleeds are rare (Lakhotia et al., 2015 [1]). We report the case of a 49 year old man presenting with an acute hematoma of the left biceps brachii causing compartment syndrome of his left upper limb leading to flaccid paralysis. He underwent surgical evacuation of the hematoma and investigations revealed that he had CML with leukemic infiltration in the biceps brachii.Marfan Syndrome (MFS) is an autosomal dominant connective tissue disorder caused by mutations in the FBN1 gene. To investigate the molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis for the syndrome, we genetically modified the FBN1 gene in a line of induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) derived from a healthy donor using the CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology. The sublines described here were characterized according to established criteria and were shown to maintain pluripotency, three germ layer differentiation potential and genomic integrity. These clones can now be used to better understand the pathogenesis of MFS in different cell types.
Mutual support groups (e.g. SMART Recovery) are an important source of support for people experiencing addictive behaviours. Little is known about the use of mutual support groups by people who use methamphetamine, or the factors that may influence group cohesion.

This study uses post-group data reported by SMART Recovery facilitators in Australia between 2018 and 2020. Group cohesion was indexed by facilitator ratings of The Group Entitativity measure (GEM-GP). Participant characteristics (gender, age, new or returning group member, voluntary or mandated attendance) and group location (major city vs. regional/remote vs. online) were used to (a) compare methamphetamine and non-methamphetamine related attendances; and (b) explore relationships to group cohesion within groups where the majority attended for methamphetamine.

Methamphetamine use was the second most common reason for attending SMART Recovery groups (n = 4929; 22.2 % service occasions). Methamphetamine-related service occasions were more like. This provides an important foundation for improving community support options for people who use methamphetamine.
Self-medication theory posits that opioids may be misused to cope with mental or emotional distress, especially if distress is not treated. Opioid misuse may lead to opioid use disorder, overdose, and death. We estimated the risk of opioid misuse associated with unmet mental health treatment needs (UMHN).

We used 2015-2018 data on U.S. adults from the National Survey of Drug Use and Health (n = 165,767). UMHN was the perceived need for mental health services in the past year without service receipt. The primary dependent variable was past year prescription opioid misuse (POM). Secondary analyses estimated POM and/or heroin misuse risk. Logistic regressions estimated the predicted probability for POM, controlling for demographics, social factors, a major depressive episode (MDE), and overall health. We also tested whether the association of UMHN on the predicted probability of POM varied by MDE.

UMHN was associated with a 4.6 percentage point higher predicted probability of POM (p < 0.001; 95 % CI 0.04-0.05) and a 4.9 percentage point higher predicted probability of POM and/or heroin (p < 0.001; 95 % CI 0.04-0.06) compared to adults who accessed mental health services. MDE was associated with a significantly greater risk of POM (p < 0.001). POM risk was greater for adults potentially experiencing social isolation.

Targeted mental health support strategies may reduce the likelihood of POM initiation and episodes. Future research should investigate the relationship between unmet mental health needs and initiation of POM episodes.

Individuals with a substance use disorder (SUD) are at a significantly higher risk for coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) and have higher rates of COVID-19 related hospitalization and death than those without SUD. This study assessed COVID-19 vaccine trust, transmission awareness, risk and protective behaviors, and effects of COVID-19 on mental health and smoking among a sample of clients in California residential SUD treatment programs and identified factors associated with vaccine trust.

A multi-site sample of SUD treatment clients (n = 265) completed a cross-sectional survey. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with COVID-19 vaccine trust.

Participants were predominantly male (82.3 %) and racially/ethnically diverse (33.3 % Non-Hispanic White). Most participants were aware of COVID-19 modes of transmission, however, only 39.5 % trusted a COVID-19 vaccine would be safe and effective. Factors independently associated with trust in a COVID-19 vaccine included age (AOR = 1.03, 95 % CI = 1.02, 1.05, p = 0.0001) and wearing a mask all the time (AOR = 2.48, 95 % CI = 1.86, 3.31, p = 0.0001). African Americans were less likely than White participants to trust that a COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective (AOR = 0.41, 95 % CI = 0.23, 0.70, p = 0.001).

SUD treatment clients were aware of COVID-19 modes of transmission; however, fewer than half trusted that a COVID-19 vaccine would be safe and effective. Health communication about COVID-19 for people with SUD should use a multipronged approach to address COVID-19 vaccine mistrust and transmission risk behaviors.

By elaborating the idea of "affective spaces of health", we investigate not only how the affective potential of running bodies enables a therapeutic and individualised form of selfhood in response to China's post-socialist transformation, but also how affective atmospheres might condition and discipline runners' affective capacities for health. The paper therefore questions the simplistic association of health with particular qualities of place, and calls for research to focus on the affective, dispersed and fluid spaces of health instead.Digital technologies have long impacted the field of health, causing fundamental changes for the geographies of the production, movement, and consumption of health. K-Ras(G12C) 9 Ras inhibitor Despite this, there is limited health geography engagement with digital health, and an understanding of how digital health affects the spatialities of health remains underdeveloped. Here, using autoethnography, I reflect on personal encounters with digital health in the UK to initiate analytical attention into the geographies of digital health. I demonstrate that digital health technologies are interconnected and increasingly structure access to health, impacting the equality of health; and that digital health disrupts existing, and creates new, therapeutic landscapes and mobilities.
Lymph node metastasis is crucial for gastric cancer. We aim to explore the value of preoperative gastroscopic carbon nanoparticles labeling in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical gastric cancer surgery.

1199 cases undergoing laparoscopic radical gastric cancer surgery were retrospectively analyzed. 214 cases received preoperative gastroscopic carbon nanoparticles labeling. The number of total lymph nodes detected, positive lymph nodes, N staging, and operation time were analyzed.

The patients received carbon nanoparticles labeling had more total lymph nodes detected (27.9±6.5 vs 22.2±4.0; P < 0.001) and shorter operation time (185.9±27.8min vs 218.7±69.2min; P < 0.001) compared with the control group. In addition, preoperative endoscopic carbon nanoparticles labeling improved the diagnosis rate of synchronous multiple gastric cancer (2.8% vs 0.4%; P < 0.001).

Preoperative endoscopic carbon nanoparticles tracer labeling is of great value in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical gastric cancer surgery. It shortens the operation time, increases the number of total lymph nodes detected for more accurate pathological TNM staging, and finds some cases of synchronous multiple gastric cancer.

A significant demand of these objects during the first half of the 20th century led to the manufacture of counterfeit shrunken heads for commercial purposes. For museums where these collections are held, as well as for the indigenous groups who claim their ownership, it is important to identify the origin and authenticity of these tsantsas. We hypothesized that a collection of 14 tsantsas from 3 different museum collections in Ecuador are human and aimed to characterize their sex and potential origin. We amplified the amelogenin gene and performed a high resolution melting analysis to determine their human origin and characterize their sex. We also analyzed a fragment (16209-16402) from the HVR-1 region to identify the mtDNA haplogroups present in the tsantsa collection. Our exploratory results show that all the tsantsas are human and that the collection is comprised of 13 males and 1 female.
