IOData is a free and open-source Python library for parsing, storing, and converting various file formats commonly used by quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, and plane-wave density-functional-theory software programs. In addition, IOData supports a flexible framework for generating input files for various software packages. While designed and released for stand-alone use, its original purpose was to facilitate the interoperability of various modules in the HORTON and ChemTools software packages with external (third-party) molecular quantum chemistry and solid-state density-functional-theory packages. IOData is designed to be easy to use, maintain, and extend; this is why we wrote IOData in Python and adopted many principles of modern software development, including comprehensive documentation, extensive testing, continuous integration/delivery protocols, and package management. This article is the official release note of the IOData library.
Biologic agents (also termed biologics or biologicals) are becoming increasingly important in the treatment of immune-mediated diseases. However, the diversity of clinical trials along with the fast pace of publication makes it difficult to determine the level of evidence for the use of a biologic for a given disorder. To address this challenge, we are publishing a series of systematic reviews evaluating the safety and efficacy of B cell-targeting biologics for the treatment of immune-mediated diseases. In this article, we have assessed the safety and efficacy of belimumab, a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody targeting the cytokine B cell-activating factor (BAFF).

To evaluate belimumab's safety and efficacy for the treatment of immune-mediated disorders compared to placebo, conventional treatment or other biologics.

The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklist guided the reporting of the data. We searched the PubMed database between October 4, 2016, and June 23, 2019, concentrating on immune-mediated disorders.

The literature search identified 583 articles. After screening titles and abstracts against the inclusion and exclusion criteria and assessing full texts, 17 articles were finally included in a narrative synthesis.

Advances in the care of cancer patients have resulted in increased survival. The proximal femur is a common site for metastatic disease, often requiring surgical intervention. Tranexamic acid (TXA) has proven to be safe in elective and traumatic femoral hemiarthroplasty; however, itsuse has not been investigated in oncologic patients.

We reviewed 66 patients (37 males) with a mean age of 64 ± 3 years undergoing a hemiarthroplasty for metastatic disease in the femoral neck. A total of 22 (33%) patients received intraoperative TXA. Primary outcomes included postoperative blood loss, intraoperative and postoperative transfusion requirement, and postoperative complications.

There was no difference in the baseline characteristics between the TXA and non-TXA groups. When comparing the TXA and non-TXA groups, there were no differences in 72 h postoperative blood loss between groups (1.21 L vs. 1.33 L, p = 0.61), percentage of patients requiring transfusion (36.4% vs. 36.4%, p = 1.0), or the incidence of postoperative complications including venous thromboembolism (14% vs. 11%, p = 0.70) and pulmonary embolism (0% vs. 5%, p = 1.0).

This initial study supports the safe use of TXA intraoperatively in femoral hemiarthroplasty performed for metastatic disease.This study aimed to establish the association of low social capital (SC) with psychological distress indicators. A cross-sectional study was carried out using an online questionnaire that evaluated demographic variables, social capital, perceived stress related to coronavirus disease, depression risk, insomnia risk, and suicide risk. SC was taken as an independent variable, and symptoms indicating psychological distress were considered as dependent variables. A group of 700 adults aged between 18 and 76 years (M = 37, SD = 13) participated in the survey. Low SC was associated with depression risk (odds ratio [OR] = 2.00, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.34-2.97), elevated suicide risk (OR = 2.62, 95% CI = 1.40-4.91) high perceived stress related to coronavirus disease (OR = 2.08 95% CI, 1.15-3.76), and insomnia risk (OR = 2.42, 95% CI = 1.69-3.47). In conclusion, low CS was associated with indicators of psychological distress. SC is a community social resource that could help mitigate the quarantine impact of coronavirus disease amidst the Colombian population's psychological health.Tumorigenesis proceeds through discrete steps where acquisition of genetic lesions and changes in the surrounding microenvironment combine to drive unrestricted neoplastic proliferation and metastasis. The ability of tumor-infiltrating immune cells to promote tumor growth via the provision of signals that enable tumor cell survival and proliferation as well as contribute to immune suppression is an active area of research. Recent efforts have provided us with mechanistic insights into how B cells can positively and negatively regulate immune responses. Negative regulation of immune responses in cancer can be mediated by regulatory B cells and is often a result of increased production of cytokines that can directly and indirectly affect anti-tumor immune function and cancer cell growth. Signals that lead to the expansion of regulatory B cells and the spectrum of their functional roles are not well understood and are the subject of active research by many groups. Here, we elaborate broadly on the history of regulatory B cells in cancer and summarize recent studies that have established genetic models for the study of regulatory B cell function and their potential for therapeutic intervention in the setting of solid cancers.
