Cellulosimicrobium strain SE3T was isolated from the San Elijo coastal lagoon near San Diego. A whole genome-based phylogenetic comparison shows great heterogeneity within the Cellulosimicrobium genus. Based on average nucleotide identity, whole genome-based comparison, and the presence of a unique L-fucose metabolic pathway, strain SE3T was shown to belong to a novel species within the genus, together with five other strains. The name Cellulosimicrobium fucosivorans sp. nov. is proposed, with strain SE3T as the type strain. The strain encodes a unique alpha-L-fucosidase and the L-fucose metabolic pathway is homologous to the one recently described in Campylobacter jejuni. C. fucosivorans is able to grow on L-fucose, and interestingly, the biosynthesis of the yellow carotenoid is dependent on the presence of L-fucose in the media. The ability to metabolize fucose and the linked production of carotenoids are expected to provide C. fucosivorans with a competitive advantage in the sunny coastal lagoon area.
To analyze donor oocyte (DE) data across 6 years for oocyte usage efficiency, trends, and whether changes impacted outcomes.

From 2014 to 2019, 323 DE embryo transfers were completed in 200 recipients using oocytes derived of 163 donors. We assessed data for oocytes being freshly retrieved (FRESH-EGG) vs. purchased frozen (FROZEN-EGG); embryos transferred fresh (FRESH-ET) vs. frozen (FROZEN-ET); cycles SHARED (two recipients) vs. SOLE (one recipient); single (SET) vs. double (DET) embryo transfers and usage of PGT-A. Primary outcome was ongoing pregnancy plus live birth (OP/LB) rate.

A total of 229 FRESH-EGG (70%) and 94 FROZEN-EGG (30%) cycles were completed. Overall, the use of FRESH-EGG yielded a higher OP/LB compared to FROZEN-EGG (49% vs. 30%, p = 0.001); within the FRESH-EGG group, OP/LB was similar when comparing FRESH-ET vs. FROZEN-ET (58% vs. 45%, p = 0.07). Within the FRESH-ET group, those using FRESH-EGG had a higher OP/LB than those using FROZEN-EGG (58% vs. 27%, p < 0.001). SHARED vs. SOrably impact success. Additionally, newly available genetic-ancestry testing may pose longer-term ramifications mandating change in treatment and/or counseling.
Lipoprotein(a) levels are determined 80-90% by genetics and differ by up to 1000-fold between individuals. This review discusses the most recent literature on lipoprotein(a) as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, as well as future lipoprotein(a)lowering therapies.

Over the past few decades, numerous studies have observed that high lipoprotein(a) levels are associated observationally and causally through human genetics with increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Also, the development of safe and effective therapies to lower lipoprotein(a) is ongoing, most importantly using antisense oligonucleotides to prevent production of lipoprotein(a). Finally, both observational and genetic studies have estimated the extent to which lowering of lipoprotein(a) is needed to obtain a clinically meaningful reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease. Lipoprotein(a) is a causal risk factor for cardiovascular disease; however, currently no approved safe and effective therapy is available to lower lipoprotein(a)ls. That said, promising randomized studies using antisense oligonucleotides show up to 80% reductions in lipoprotein(a), reductions that hopefully will result in lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease as presently tested in the ongoing HORIZON phase 3 trial.Research has yet to investigate the mediating role of emotion regulation in the relation between parental warmth and harsh discipline with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Further, few studies have investigated ODD as both a unitary construct and as three distinct dimensions (anger, defiance, spitefulness). Thus, the present study aimed to investigate child emotion regulation (grade 2) as a mediator of the relation between parental warmth and harsh discipline (kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2) and ODD and its dimensions (grade 3). Participants included the high-risk and normative samples from the Fast Track project (N = 753, male = 58 %, Black = 46 %). Constructs were assessed using observation and parent and teacher reports. Although results demonstrated an absence of indirect effects, emotion regulation was negatively associated with overall ODD and anger and defiance, but not spitefulness. Using the national KoGES health examinee (HEXA) data consisting of data from urban resident participants ≥ 40years old, we extracted data for patients with breast cancer (n = 1080) and for control participants (n = 106,993); we then analyzed the occurrence of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fracture at baseline from 2004 to 2013 and during follow-up from 2012 to 2016. A logistic regression model was used to analyze the odds ratios (ORs) and the 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Subgroup finding was not observed for osteoporotic fracture, regardless of age.
Laser-interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is an ablative treatment based on a surgically implanted laser-emitting catheter to induce a focal ablation of the pathological tissue. The main indications in neurosurgery are primary brain tumors, metastases, radiation necrosis, and pediatric brain tumors. Several approaches have been proposed to implant the laser-emitting catheter, both in frameless and frame-based conditions.

We report our approach for Robot assisted laser-interstitial thermal therapy of brain lesions with iSYS1 and Visualase (Medtronic).

To compare the effects of 12-week high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and vigorous-intensity continuous training (VICT) on cognitive function, physical fitness, VO
max, serum neurotransmitters and neurotrophic factors in overweight and obese elderly individuals.

Twenty-nine physically inactive older adults (18 males and 11 females) with a mean age of 64.8 ± 3.9years were randomlydivided into a control group (CON, n = 9), an HIIT group (4 × 3min at 90% VO
max interspersed with 3min at 60% VO
max, n = 10) and a VICT group (25min at 70% VO
max, n = 10) and submitted to 12weeks of training. Cognitive function questionnaires, physical fitness, VO
max, serum neurotransmitters and neurotrophic factors were determined at baseline and post training.

Twelve weeks of HIIT and VICT improved the VO
max (4.19 ± 2.21 and 1.84 ± 1.63mL/kg/min, respectively, p = 0.005), sit-and-reach distance (8.7 ± 3.0 and 7.8 ± 3.8cm, p = 0.033), choice reaction time (-0.115 ± 0.15 and -0.09 ± 0.15s, p = 0.004) and one-leg stand time (4.4 ± 3.4 and 4.2 ± 4.0s, p < 0.001) of the elderly participants. The serum concentrations of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (375.5 ± 247.9 and 227.0 ± 137.1pg/ml, p = 0.006), nerve growth factor (33.9 ± 16.7 and 23.3 ± 14.5pg/ml, p = 0.037), neurotrophin-3 (24.2 ± 9.33 and 16.3 ± 5.91pg/ml, p = 0.006) and neurotrophin-4 (10.4 ± 3.8 and 7.8 ± 5.0pg/ml, p = 0.029) increased significantly in the HIIT and VICT groups after training. In addition, compared to VICT, HIIT significantly increased VO
max and the serum neurotrophin-3 concentration. Serum concentrations of the neurotransmitters acetylcholine, dopamine and serotonin trended upward with training. No significant change was observed in the cognitive function questionnaire scores (p > 0.05).

HIIT is suitable for elderly adults and is more effective than VICT for improving VO
max and serum neurotrophin-3 concentrations.

Extended endoscopic endonasal operations of the sinuses and the frontal skull base require a bimanual action of the surgeon in many cases. Thus, typically an assistant guides the endoscope and centers the field of view. In this study, we investigate in which cases an endoscope holding arm can be used alternatively.

The electromagnetic system ENDOFIXexo was used in different surgical interventions of the paranasal sinuses and beyond questioning ergonomics and geometrical limitations. The realized degrees of freedom were documented, and a topography of possible applications compiled.

The presented system is limited by the anatomy of the anterior ethmoid and dynamic working conditions in the sagittal direction. Especially in extended interventions in the posterior ethmoid, in which parts of the nasal septum have been resected and a static position of the endoscope is desired the surgeon can greatly benefit from the robotic arm. Moreover, through the high flexibility of the endoscopic arm surgeries of the pharynx and larynx were performed, questioning the current gold standard of microscope-assisted surgical procedures.

L-amino acids are the predominant forms of organic molecules on the planet, but recent studies have revealed that various foods contain D-amino acids, the enantiomers of L-amino acids. Though diet plays important roles in both the development and progression of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), to our best knowledge, there has been no report on any potential interactions between D-amino acids and IBD. In this report, we aim to assess the effects of D-serine in a murine model of IBD.

mice, after or before the mice were orally administered with D-serine. In vitro proliferation assays were performed to assess naïve CD4 T cell activation under the Th-skewing conditions in the presence of D-serine.

Mice treated with D-serine prior to the induction of colitis exhibited a reduction in T-cell infiltration into the lamina propria and colonic inflammation that were not seen in mice fed with water alone or L-serine.
