The DNA damage response (DDR) is a complex signal transduction network that is activated when endogenous or exogenous genotoxins damage or interfere with the replication of genomic DNA. Under such conditions, the DDR promotes DNA repair and ensures accurate replication and division of the genome. High levels of genomic instability are frequently observed in cancers and can stem from germline loss-of-function mutations in certain DDR genes, such as BRCA1, BRCA2, and p53, that form the basis of human cancer predisposition syndromes. In addition, mutation and/or aberrant expression of multiple DDR genes are frequently observed in sporadic human cancers. As a result, the DDR is considered to represent a viable target for cancer therapy in humans and a variety of strategies are under investigation. Cancer is also a significant cause of mortality in dogs, a species that offers certain advantages for experimental oncology. Domestic dogs present numerous inbred lines, many of which display predisposition to specific forms of cancer and the study of which may provide insight into the biological basis of this susceptibility. In addition, clinical trials are possible in dogs and may lead to therapeutic insights that could ultimately be extended to humans. Here we review what is known specifically about the DDR in dogs and discuss how this knowledge could be extended and exploited to advance experimental oncology in this species.Multi-emission materials have come to prominent attention ascribed to their extended applications other than single-emission ones. General and robust design strategies of a single matrix with multi-emission under single excitation are urgently required. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous materials prepared with organic ligands and metal nodes. The variety of metal nodes and ligands makes MOFs with great superiority as multi-emission matrices. Guest species encapsulated into the channels or pores of MOFs are the additional emission sites for multi-emission. In this review, multi-emission MOFs according to the different excitation sites are summarized and classified. The emission mechanisms are discussed, such as antenna effect, excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) and tautomerism for dual-emission. The factors that affect the emissions are revealed, including ligand-metal energy transfer and host-guest interaction, etc. Multi-emission MOFs could be predictably designed and prepared, once the emissive factors are controlled rationally in combination with the different multi-emission mechanisms. Correspondingly, new and practical applications are realized, including but not limited to ratiometric/multi-target sensing and bioimaging, white light-emitting diodes, and anti-counterfeiting. The design strategies of multi-emission MOFs and their extensive applications are reviewed. The results will shed light on other multi-emission systems to develop the structure-derived functionality and applications.This scoping review aims to explore nursing students' insights of learning evidence-based practice skills through the use of interactive online technology. Studies were obtained from seven electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global) until May 2021. This review adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis extension for Scoping Reviews and was guided by the Arksey and O'Malley framework (Scoping studies Towards a methodological framework. International Journal of Social Research Methodology, 2005, 8(1), 19-32). Findings were analyzed using thematic analysis. Three themes were derived from the 22 included studies (1) embracing new changes, (2) challenges to tackle, and (3) towards future improvement. Many nursing students reported positive learning experiences of evidence-based practice skills using interactive online technology. The challenges faced by students and suggestions for improvement were discussed. Future online evidence-based practice courses should consider blended pedagogies, providing students with effective scaffolding (step-by-step guidance) and allowing students to choose their preferred instructional strategies. Thorough planning, testing, and orientation should be conducted before the programs' implementation. Lastly, future studies should aim to achieve higher study rigor to obtain more accurate results.
The wheat aphids, Rhopalosiphum padi and Sitobion miscanthi, are serious agricultural insect pests of many crops. Neonicotinoid insecticides are commonly used as alternatives to organophosphate and pyrethroid insecticides for controlling wheat aphids.
Long-term monitoring of resistance to imidacloprid and acetamiprid in R. padi and S. miscanthi was carried out between 2007 and 2019. For this study, 344 specimens of the two wheat aphids were collected from field populations found in the main wheat production areas in China, from 2007 to 2019. In R. padi, the fluctuation in resistance was 14.7 times for imidacloprid and 1.4 times for acetamiprid; in S. miscanthi, it was 9.7 times for imidacloprid and 6.5 times for acetamiprid.
Our results demonstrated that both R. padi and S. miscanthi tended to have higher resistance to imidacloprid compared with acetamiprid. However, it is difficult for wheat aphids to develop a high level of neonicotinoid resistance given the pest control practices used in China. These results should be useful for the biorational application and resistance management of neonicotinoid insecticides.

The treatment of carious lesions is one of the most fundamental competencies in daily dental practice. However, many commercially available training models lack in reality regarding the simulation of pathologies such as carious lesions. 3D printed models could provide a more realistic simulation. This study provides an exemplary description of the fabrication of 3D printed dental models with carious lesions and assesses their educational value compared to commercially available models in conservative dentistry.
A single-stage, controlled cohort study was conducted within the context of a curricular course. A stereolithographic model was obtained from an intraoral scan and then printed using fused deposition modelling. These models were first piloted by experts and then implemented and compared against commercial models in a conservative dentistry course. Experts and students evaluated both models using a validated questionnaire. Additionally, a cost analysis for both models was carried out.
Thirteen dentists and twenty-seven 5th year dental students participated in the study. The 3D printed models were rated significantly more realistic in many test areas. In particular, the different tactility and the distinction in colour was rated positively in the 3D printed models. At 28.29€ (compared to 112.36€), the 3D printed models were exceptionally cost-efficient.

Gastrointestinal absorption of first and second-generation tetracycline-class antibiotics, including doxycycline and minocycline, may be reduced by co-administration with food, resulting in potentially lower clinical efficacy. Development of novel compounds and formulations that are not impacted by diet could improve compliance, absorption, and effectiveness among patients. The objective of this study is to investigate weight-based dosing protocols and the impact of food intake, including high-fat meals, on the absorption, and clinical efficacy of sarecycline, a novel oral narrow-spectrum third-generation tetracycline-class antibiotic approved by the Food and Drug Administration for acne vulgaris treatment. Data from 12 clinical studies were analyzed using population pharmacokinetic modeling, exposure-response modeling and pharmacodynamics to evaluate sarecycline dosing recommendations. The extent of exposure is estimated to decrease by 21.7% following co-administration of a sarecycline tablet with a high-fat meal. Based on the PopPK-PD model, this is equivalent to a decrease in efficacy of 0.9 inflammatory lesions, which is not clinically meaningful. Sarecycline can be administered using weight-based dosing with or without food. Co-administration with high-fat food has a limited impact on clinical efficacy. The pharmacokinetics of oral sarecycline may provide added convenience and support ease of use and improved compliance for acne vulgaris patients.In the context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, it is important to ensure the quality of cancer treatment as well as patients and health professionals' safety. Selleckchem compound 3i Aim of this study was to assess feasibility and safety of Contact Skin Radiation Therapy (CSRT) to treat basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Patients with advanced and difficult-to-treat BCC or SCC were discussed at skin multidisciplinary tumor board (S-MDTB) from February the 21st to May the 4th (phase 1 Italian Pandemic) and retrospectively analyzed. Patient's triage following internal recommendations was daily performed. CSRT was delivered in 8 fractions of 5 Gy each, twice a day. Beyond the clinical outcomes, treatment success indicators, such as the completion of CSRT without SARS-CoV-2 occurrence, were identified to evaluate the feasibility of CSRT during pandemic. A post-treatment psychological assessment regarding patient's safety perception was performed. Six male patients (median age 80 years; range 62-92) with histologically confirmed BCC or SCC were treated with CSRT. Complete clinical remission was achieved in 5/6 patients (83.4%). No high-grade acute toxicities occurred during treatment. No patients or healthcare personnel developed SARS-CoV-2 infection. All the treatment success indicators were achieved. CSRT represents a safe, and feasible treatment option even during the pandemic emergency period. Hypofractionation could be an option to reduce total number of fractions and, consequently, infective risk exposition.Given the significant amount of time that refugee and asylum-seeking children (RASC) spend in schools, these institutions play an important role in their lives and represent an ideal environment in which to help them to adapt to their host society. The present study aimed to draw attention to the possibility of transferring intervention methods designed for children with ASD to formal education settings welcoming newly arrived RASC to support their adaptation to their new school environment. For this purpose, a systematic review was undertaken to assess the feasibility of implementing three specific ASD intervention methods (i.e., TEACCH, PECS, and PMI) in schools welcoming RASC. While the review did not reveal previous attempts to implement and evaluate ASD intervention methods with newcomer RASC, 21 records were uncovered providing preliminary evidence in support of this idea. Hypothesized strengths and limitations, as well as considerations about implementation, are discussed.
