T OR = 1.28, 95% CI = 1.06-1.54, I2 = 60%, p = 0.009). Subgroup analysis based on the presence of dental caries in dentition found a significant association of the TaqI (rs731236 T>C) polymorphism with permanent tooth caries in the allele contrast model (C vs. T OR = 1.40, 95% CI = 1.11-1.77, I2 = 76%, p = 0.005) and the recessive genetic model (CC vs. TT/CT OR = 1.44, 95% CI = 1.03-2.00, I2 = 0%, p = 0.03). Conclusion The results of this meta-analysis suggest that the C allele and CC genotype of the TaqI (rs731236 T>C) polymorphism in the VDR gene are associated with an increased risk of dental caries. Objective Optimal retroperitoneal space creation is of pivotal importance in laparoscopic retroperitoneal surgery. The aim of this study is to report the balloon dissecting technique developed at our institution, comparing the costs of such device with that of the commercially available balloon retroperitoneal expanders. Materials and Methods Twenty patients, scheduled to undergo retroperitoneoscopic surgery, were randomly divided into two groups. In group 1, retroperitoneal dilatation was performed with the commercially available balloon expander. In group 2, we employed the original balloon dilator created with two middle fingers of a #8 powder-free surgical glove tied to a nondisposable 11 mm trocar and filled with 600 mL of saline, employing simultaneously two 50 mL syringes. Subjective evaluation of the created space was performed by a surgeon blinded in both groups. Economical evaluation included the costs of the disposable materials and of the time in the operative room required to create the dilation. Results In all the cases, the created dilatation was considered good. In group 1, the time required to dilate the retroperitoneal space was medially 3.15 minutes, whereas in group 2, the time required to prepare the dissecting balloon was medially 1.16 minutes and the time required to dissect the retroperitoneal space was 4.41 minutes (total 5.57 minutes). Considering the costs of the disposable material, the overall costs to create the retroperitoneal space resulted to be 141.95€ in group 1 and 60.27€ in group 2 (p less then 0.005). Conclusion The original dissecting balloon employed at our institution revealed to be easy and of fast manner and offers a valid option for the proper retroperitoneal dissection. Moreover, it revealed to be cost-effective compared with the commercially available supply. The utilization of the mRNA-based Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines represents the culmination of many years of nonviral nucleic acid delivery, but more importantly, they signify a massive clinical scientific success. Scientists working in the area of nucleic acid delivery using lipid nanoparticles will undoubtedly be energized by the success of these vaccines and begin to collect much needed data in the realm of nonviral-based RNA and DNA delivery, specifically, the use of lipid nanoparticles, the immune response, safety, and efficacy. It is easily conceivable that in the future we can utilize these data to help streamline our approach for the delivery of DNA for gene therapy and regulatory RNAs for therapeutic and regenerative medicine (ie, wound repair) applications.Purpose Adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors' families can face ongoing challenges into survivorship. Families' adjustment and functioning as a unit can subsequently impact AYAs' mental health and quality of life. ITF2357 clinical trial This study examined AYA cancer survivors' perceived family functioning, compared with their peers, and investigated factors associated with family functioning. Methods Eligible participants were aged between 15 and 40 years, fluent in English, and cancer survivors who had completed treatment. AYA cancer survivors were recruited from hospital clinics, and the comparison group from an affiliated university campus. Participants completed the McMaster Family Assessment Device, Kidcope, and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-Short Form. We analyzed between-group differences in family functioning using multivariate analysis of covariance and used partial correlations to investigate associations between demographic cancer-related psychological coping variables and family functioning. Results Ninety-three AYA cancer survivors and 141 comparison peers participated (ages 15-32 years). AYA cancer survivors reported significantly better family functioning (p = 0.029), lower depression (p = 0.016), and anxiety symptoms (p = 0.008) compared with the comparison group. Approximately one-third of AYA survivors (34.4%) reported clinically significant maladaptive family functioning; however, this was more prevalent in the comparison group (50.4%). After adjusting for covariates, poorer family functioning was associated with AYA survivors using more avoidant escape-oriented coping strategies (p = 0.010). Conclusions Our cancer survivor cohort reported better family functioning and psychological outcomes compared with their peers. Interventions targeting avoidant coping behaviors may support improved family functioning in some survivors. Further research disentangling the relationship between coping mechanisms and family functioning among AYA cancer survivors is needed. Background We aim to directly compare the feasibility and safety of extended pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) during transperitoneal robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (Tp-RARP) and extraperitoneal laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (Ep-LRP). Materials and Methods We retrospectively identified the prospectively maintained database records of 162 patients diagnosed with prostate cancer (PC) who underwent Ep-LRP or Tp-RARP with extended PLND. Patients with risk of nodal metastases over 5% according to Briganti nomogram received extended PLND. All data analyzed in this study were based on the documentation in our PC database including age, body mass index, Charlson comorbidity index score, preoperative prostate-specific antigen, history of abdominal surgery, biopsy Gleason score, total operation time, postoperative pelvic drainage time, pathological results, lymph node yield (LNY), percentage lymph node involvement (%LNI), and perioperative complications. Patients were followed up for biochemical recurrence in the postoperative period.
