In all cases, salinity increases from the north to southwards and surface to downwards. Our results showed that the accreted land of the Noakhali district contains higher soil salinity compared to the non-accreted land, and soil salinity is positively correlated with depth. Assessment of suitable species and pattern of traditional cropping practices in the study area show conformity with our salinity profile. The study will help stakeholders associated with agricultural development and management in planning and designing the future land use and cropping practices. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between students' entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial mindset as well as understanding the mediating role of attitude and self-efficacy. The approach adopted in this study is a convenience random sampling method, which is widely used in entrepreneurship research. Participants were recruited from several universities in Malang of East Java in Indonesia undergoing an online survey and were calculated using structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings of this current study indicate that entrepreneurship education successfully influences entrepreneurial self-efficacy, entrepreneurial attitude, and the entrepreneurial mindset. On the other hand, entrepreneurial self-efficacy promotes entrepreneurial attitude instead of the entrepreneurial mindset. Furthermore, entrepreneurial attitude plays an essential role in mediating both entrepreneurship education and self-efficacy toward students' entrepreneurial mindset.Oxidative stress, the disrupted oxidation-reduction mechanism in our body, is caused by the excessive exposure of free radicals and the impaired antioxidant defenses that can accelerate skin aging. Antioxidants can be obtained from nature, which are available widely in therapeutic-rich plants, such as white saffron (Curcuma mangga Val., denoted as C. mangga). Although many pieces of evidence reveal that C. mangga contains an abundance of phenolic compounds and has antioxidative effects, its cosmeceutical potentials remain unclear. The present study aimed to disclose the unexplored antiaging potentials of C. mangga extract (CME) in oxidative stress-induced human BJ fibroblasts with a focus on collagen protection against pro-inflammatory mediators MMP1, MMP3, and MMP13. The oxidative stress-induced cells were treated with CME and curcumin at different doses. The results showed that treatment using CME (25 μg/mL) could maintain the collagen contents up to 18.45 ± 0.68 μg/mL in H2O2-treated fibroblasts (only ~26.63% reduction in collagen contents), while the figure for the negative control was the lowest (12.79 μg/mL), showing a significant reduction in collagen contents by 49.13%. In addition, the gene expression of pro-inflammatory MMPs arose significantly in BJ fibroblasts after oxidative stress induction using 200 μM H2O2, in which the expression for MMP1, MMP3, and MMP13 increased by 7.10, 38.96, and 2.69 times, respectively. Interestingly, CME treatment (100 μg/mL) could effectively inhibit MMP1, MMP3, and MMP13 gene expression by 3.65, 34.62, and 2.02 times, respectively. In conclusion, CME showed favorable antiaging activities in H2O2-treated human BJ fibroblasts as confirmed by the low levels of gene expression of MPP1, MMP3, and MMP13 after treatment with CME."Ayvalık" is one of the prominent olive cultivar used for producing virgin olive oil (VOO) in Turkey. In this study, 215 olive samples of "Ayvalık" were harvested from 14 different locations in North Aegean Region of Anatolia by hand-picking during three consecutive crop seasons. The early harvested cold press VOO samples were produced at lab-scale and the quality indices (free acidity, peroxide value and spectral absorption at 232, 266, 270 and 274 nm), induction time, colour values, fatty acid and volatile profiles were determined in order to examine changes on composition of the "Ayvalık" olive oils based on their growing area. Characteristically, it was found that volatile fraction of "Ayvalık" VOOs composed of aldehydes (29.72), terpene (12.68), alcohol (11.65), benzene ringed compound (4.71), ketone (3.49), organic acid (2.87), ester (1.84), furan (0.96) compounds on average percentage. It was highlighted with this research 61.84-87.36% of aldehydes, 0.00-91.11% of ketones, 0.00-46.11% of esters, and 34.53-92.06% of alcohols were generated only by lipoxygenase pathway. As a conclusion, Ayvalık VOOs had different chemical composition based on geographic origin. Therefore, it was considered that this work is so promising to directly accelerate that the number of geographic indicated VOOs linked to "Ayvalık" cultivar.
Enhancement of β-cell proliferation plays an important role in maintaining β-cell mass and function, and in improving pancreatic β-cell survival before transplantation. Extracellular matrix (ECM) components increase the adhesion and proliferation of β-cells, and the RGD-modified elastin-like polypeptide (RGD-ELP, REP) has been described as a bioactive matrix. In this study, we investigated whether REP could enhance β-cell adhesion and proliferation and elucidated the signaling pathways involved.
We investigated the effect of REP on cell adhesion, proliferation and insulin secretion via assays using Rin-m and rat islets. Crystal violet, CCK-8, and BrdU assay, FACS, western blot, real time q-PCR analyses and insulin ELISA were examined. To explain the associated mechanisms, phosphorylation of Akt and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (Erk) were measured.
REP more increased the adhesion, proliferation and survival of Rin-m cells compared to elastin-like poly peptide (ELP) without RGD-motif. The enhancement of β-cell proliferation by REP was associated with increased cyclin D1, cyclin D2 and cdk6, and decreased p27 levels. When β-cells were cultured on REP, Erk and the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3-kinase) downstream effector, Akt was stimulated. Guanidine Treatment with the Erk pathway inhibitor and PI3-kinase inhibitor decreased REP-induced β-cell adhesion and proliferation, and regulated REP-induced cell cycle proteins. Additionally, REP increased the mRNA and protein levels of insulin and its transcription factor, PDX-1, and insulin secretion.
Our results demonstrate that the up-regulation of the PI3K/Akt and Erk signaling pathways and the regulation of cell cycle proteins by REP could serve as effective strategies for improving pancreatic β-cell adhesion and proliferation.
