One of the most common problems that internal bifold doors encounter is sliding out of alignment. This could be due to loose screws or holes in the anchor pins, or simply a door that isn't aligned properly. In most cases, you can correct this with a few easy adjustments, but if the door isn't moving, it may need to be removed and replaced.
To open the door to open it, you'll require an appropriate screwdriver, and possibly two pliers (to assist in loosening any pins that are tight to pivot). The screwdriver can be used to release any locking levers that are on the bottom bracket of the pivot, and the pliers will let you wiggle the pin to release it and then take it off.
Once the top roller is free, you should be able to lift the door and then swivel it downward and allow you to pull it out of its track and pivot brackets. It's usually a straightforward procedure, but be cautious not to let the door strike the door frame. Then, you can sand down the edge of the door to make it smooth. You can then repaint or replace it with a new finish as needed.
Remove the Roller Guide
This spring-loaded roller guide mounts on the top edge of a bifold door to help in smooth operation. It is designed to be used with Kenna frames and can be fitted to doors that are 1 inch to 1-3/8 inches thick. It is made from steel, nylon and plastic components. It can replace an old guide.

If they're not, you'll need to adjust the top pivot bracket and tighten or loosen the bottom screwscrew until the edge of the door coincides perfectly with the frame.
Replace the Roller
Bifold doors can be used to neatly cover closets, laundry nooks and pantries, but only if they work properly. They are made up of two panels that are hinged and slide open on tracks that are positioned in the frame's top. Over time the guides for the rollers can wear out and cause the doors to slide. Replacing the roller guide requires just a few minutes and the most basic tools.
The first step is to remove the guide for the roller from the door panel. The pivot bolt at the bottom is to be removed, as well as the screw that connects the guide to the top of the door panel should be removed. Once the guide is removed then lift the door frame up and out of its track. Then, using a wrench, remove the top pivot bolt from the hole in the frame's header by loosening the bolt.

A bifold door can also scrape against the floor as it closes and opens. This can occur after installing carpet or other flooring materials that require the doors to be slightly raised to allow clearance. This issue can be solved by taking off the bottom pivot adjustment screws and loosening the top track mounting screws, and moving the anchor/pivot.
A new set top roller guides could be a low-cost solution to the problem of your bifold doors being difficult to operate. They are usually available at your local hardware store in the door section. However, they can be bought on the internet from a variety of vendors. Along with a brand new top guide for rollers, you'll need a small container of Elmer's wood glue that is available in big box stores as well as a squeeze clamp. The clamp assists in keeping the repair area in place after the glue has been inserted and allowed to dry.
