Based on the antioxidant effects of carvedilol (CARV), here, we aimed to evaluate CARV's effects against depression induced by the chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) model.

Female Swiss mice were submitted to the CUS protocol for 21days. Between days 15 and 22, the animals received CARV (5 or 10mg/kg) or desvenlafaxine (DVS 10mg/kg) orally. On the 22nd day, mice were subjected to behavioral tests to evaluate locomotion, depressive-like behavior (tail suspension test), motivation/self-care with the splash test (ST), social interaction, and working memory Y-maze test. The prefrontal cortex (PFC) and hippocampus were dissected to evaluate alterations of oxidative and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).

The CUS model reduced locomotion and increased grooming latency, while it reduced the number of groomings in the ST. Both doses of CARV and DVS reverted these alterations. In this study, we evaluated the expression of VEGF-A, IL1ß, TNFα, and type I collagen in the placentas of diabetic rats subjected to a swimming program. Thirty rats were divided into the following groups CG, pregnant nondiabetic rats; CEG, nondiabetic pregnant rats subjected to swimming; DG, pregnant diabetic rats; DEG, pregnant diabetic rats subjected to swimming; DIG, pregnant diabetic rats treated with insulin; DIEG, pregnant diabetic rats treated with insulin and subjected to swimming. Diabetes was induced using streptozotocin [50 mg/kg intraperitoneally (i.p.)], and insulin was administered at a dose of 5 U/day i.p. (2 U at 10 am and 3 U at 7 pm) in the DIG group; in the DIEG group, insulin was administered at a dose of only 2 U/day at 7 pm. The rats were sacrificed on the 20th day of gestation. There was an increase in the expression of IL-1β, TNF-α, VEGF-A, and type I collagen and a higher apoptotic index in the placentas of the DG and DEG groups, but there was a reduction in glycemia in the latter group. In the DIG and DIEG groups, the levels remained similar to those of the control; however, in these groups the reduction was more significant for all analyzed parameters. Therefore, in rats induced to diabetes during pregnancy, swimming, although reducing glycemic levels, did not prevent immunohistochemical changes in the placenta, suggesting the need for a multidisciplinary protocol associated with traditional pharmacological treatment.
Suicide among hospitality workers has recently attracted attention in the media. To date, little is known about suicide among hospitality workers in Australia.

Suicide data were obtained from the National Coronial Information System (NCIS). Occupational suicide rates were calculated using the Australian Bureau of Statistics population-level data from the 2011 census. Negative binomial regression, univariate logistic regression, and multivariate logistic regression were used to estimate the association between suicide and employment as a hospitality worker over the period 2006-2017, compared to all other occupations.

Suicide rates for chefs was significantly higher than for persons in non-hospitality occupations [incidence rate ratio (IRR), 3.93; 95% CI 2.53-5.79; P < 0.001]. The interaction between occupation and sex was examined with follow-up testing. Suicide rates for female chefs were significantly higher than for females in non-hospitality occupations (IRR, 3.93; 95% CI 2.60-5.94). Suicide rates for male chefs were also significantly higher than males in non-hospitality occupations (IRR, 1.38; 95% CI 1.14-1.67). These traumas can result in dramatic consequences to visual function, ocular motility, and aesthetics. CT is a quick and widely available imaging modality, which provides a detailed evaluation of the orbital bony and soft tissue structures, an accurate assessment of the globes, and is used to guide the patients' treatment planning. For a timely and accurate diagnosis, radiologists should be aware of fracture patterns and possible associated complications, ocular detachments and hemorrhages, and different appearances of intraorbital foreign bodies. This educational review aims to describe all post-traumatic orbital abnormalities that can be identified on CT, providing a list of tips and a diagnostic flowchart to help radiologists deal with this complex condition.
The repeated use of doxorubicin is limited due to dose-limiting cardiac toxicity. Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PEG-LD, Duomeisu) has a reduced cardiac toxicity. This phase I study aimed to investigate the maximum tolerated doses (MTDs) and dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs) of the PEG-LD and cisplatin combination in patients with metastatic and recurrent osteosarcoma.

Patients were given PEG-LD at a dose of 40, 50, or 60mg/m
on day 1 of each 21-day cycle, according to a 3 + 3 approach for dose escalation. Cisplatin was administered as a fixed dose of 100mg/m
for every cycle. Toxicities and tumor response were observed.

A total of 15 patients were enrolled in this trial, and nine of the patients had received prior doxorubicin. The MTD of PEG-LD was reached at 50mg/m
in this regimen, with neutropenic fever and stomatitis as DTLs. The main adverse event (AE) was myelosuppression. The most common non-hematological AEs were vomiting, hypoproteinemia, stomatitis and transient sinus arrhythmia. Grade 3-4 toxicity was neutropenia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia and stomatitis in the whole cohort. All the AEs were relieved after symptomatic and supportive treatment. Totally, the overall response rate was 13.3% and disease control rate was 66.7%. For the six patients who have not received prior doxorubicin, one partial response and five stable diseases were observed.

This study aims to evaluate choroidal vascular alterations in patients with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) using ultra-widefield (UWF) indocyanine green angiography (ICGA).

This was a retrospective case-control study conducted at a single tertiary eye center. In total, 36 eyes in patients with either unilateral (24 patients) or bilateral (six patients) treatment-naïve CSC and 30 eyes in 24 age-matched controls were evaluated. The number of quadrants with vortex vein engorgement on UWF ICGA was evaluated. Dilated choroidal vessels affecting the macula were regarded as extended vortex vein engorgement. Choroidal vascular hyperpermeability (CVH) area on late-phase ICGA was quantified using stereographic projection. The parameters were compared with clinical and optical coherence tomographic findings.

Eyes with CSC had larger CVH area, thicker choroid, and more quadrants with vortex vein engorgement and extended vortex vein engorgement compared with control eyes (all P < 0.001). In patients with unilateral CSC, affected eyes had larger CVH area, thicker choroid, and more extended vortex vein engorgements compared with unaffected fellow eyes (all P < 0.001), but vortex vein engorgement did not significantly differ. CVH was significantly correlated with extended vortex vein engorgement (P < 0.001) and subfoveal choroidal thickness (P = 0.007).

The increased number and binocular symmetry of engorged vortex veins suggest an anatomical predisposition for CSC. CVH area and extended vortex vein engorgement were indicators of choroidal outflow congestion. These parameters may serve as diagnostic clues or predictors of disease development in eyes with CSC.

The all-inside arthroscopic repair of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) is a technically challenging and still-recent procedure to treat chronic ankle instability (CAI). Favourable clinical outcomes have been shown from originator centers, but this is one of the first series from a non-originator centre. The purpose of the present study is to present the clinical and functional results of patients with CAI underwent arthroscopic all-inside ATFL repair.

This is a series of cases of 18 consecutive patients who underwent the all-inside arthroscopic ATFL repair, for CAI, after the failure of conservative treatment performed for sixmonths. The evaluation was made using the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Score (AOFAS), visual analog pain scale (VAS), anterior drawer, and talar tilt tests.
