This was a two-week, two-visit, double-masked study that randomized participants with CL discomfort to use Systane Complete (artificial tear), Sensitive Eyes (rewetting drop), or no treatment. Drops were applied before, twice during, and after CL use each day. Corneal staining served as the primary safety metric. Conjunctival staining, tear break-up time, Schirmer's test, CL comfort (Contact Lens Dry Eye Questionnaire-8 [CLDEQ-8]), and dry eye symptoms (Standardized Patient Evaluation of Eye Dryness [SPEED]) were also evaluated.

This study recruited 73 participants with a mean age of 30.3 ± 11.5 years; 18 % of the participants were male. There were no significant changes in ocular surface signs from baseline or between the artificial tear and rewetting drop groups after two weeks (p ≥ 0.05). Participants in the artificial tear and rewetting drop groups had significant improvements in CLDEQ-8 scores after two weeks of treatment compared with baseline (p < 0.0001), though scores for this test were not significantly different between these groups after two weeks (p = 0.94). CLDEQ-8 scores were significantly better in the artificial tear and rewetting drop groups compared with no treatment after two weeks (p < 0.0001).

We present a case of a young male with a complex iatrogenic femoral artery pseudoaneurysm as a result of iatrogenic femoral artery puncture. The defective femoral artery was repaired with combined bovine pericardial tube and autologous great saphenous vein grafts. It is new clinical interest higher serum amylase level with pancreatitis after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) correlates with postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF). Nevertheless, its evidence and study were scarce. We aimed to investigate correlation of serum amylase level immediate after PD and POPF occurrence.

Of 163 patients who underwent PD at between January 2009 and December 2019, retrospective analysis was conducted to identify risk factors including serum amylase level immediate after PD for POPF occurrence.

Intrahepatic lithiasis (IHL) is a rare disease in the western world. Complications associated with IHL include acute cholangitis, liver atrophy, secondary biliary cirrhosis, and risk for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Liver resection is considered the treatment of choice for IHL. The objective of this study was to analyze patients who underwent liver resection for non-Asian hepatolithiasis.

127 patients with symptomatic non-Asian hepatolithiasis underwent resection in six institutions. Demographic data, clinical presentation, diagnosis, classification according to stone location, presence of atrophy, bile duct stricture, biliary cirrhosis, incidence of cholangiocarcinoma, treatment and postoperative course were evaluated.

52 patients (40.9%) were male and the mean age was 46.1 years. Sixty-six patients (51.9%) presented with history of cholangitis. Stones were located in the left lobe in 63 (49.6%), and right lobe in 28 patients (22.0%). Atrophy was observed in 31 patients (24.4%) and biliary stenosis in 18 patients (14.1%). The most common procedure performed was left lateral sectionectomy in 63 (49.6%) patients, followed by left hepatectomy in 36 (28.3%), right hepatectomy in 19 (15.0%), and associated hepaticojejunostomy in 28 (22.0%). Forty-two patients (33.0%) presented postoperative complications and the most common were biliary fistula (13.3%) and surgical site infection (7.0%). Postoperative mortality was 0.7%. Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma was observed in 2 patients (1.5%). Recurrence was identified in 10 patients (7.8%), mostly with bilateral stones and/or hepaticojejunostomy.

Preventing type 2 diabetes (T2D) progression can reduce morbidity, mortality and health-care costs. Interventions can support people with diet and physical activity behaviour changes; however, many interventions are university-based, posing barriers (e.g. accessibility, limited reach and maintenance), which highlight the need for community intervention. Limited research has comprehensively evaluated programs in community contexts. The purpose of this study was to pragmatically examine the reach and effectiveness of a diabetes prevention behaviour change program in the community using the RE-AIM framework. Demographic and outcome data were collected through telephone screening and survey data, and analyzed using descriptive and multivariate analyses. Over 2 years, 9954 individuals were identified by a medical laboratory as living with prediabetes. Information letters were sent by the laboratory to individuals upon physician approval (N=2241, 22.5%) as a main form of recruitment. From this, 271 individuals and an additional 160 individuals via other recruitment methods contacted the research team (N=431). link2 Two hundred thirteen adults with prediabetes were enrolled (87.4% Caucasian, 69.7% female; 95% program completion). Analyses of 6-month follow-up data revealed significant maintenance of reductions in weight and waist circumference and improvements in physical function, self-reported physical activity and all-food frequency, items except fruit intake (N=121, d=0.21 to 0.68, p less then 0.05 to 0.001). The program demonstrated diabetes risk-reducing benefits for enrolled individuals. Future work is needed to increase physician referral and participant response rates and to explore program expansion through digitization to reach more individuals at risk of developing T2D.Since Ce-doped YAlO3 (YAP(Ce)) scintillators have small non-proportionality, it is useful to develop a radiation imaging detector for low-energy gamma photons or X-rays. However, the YAP(Ce) performance with different Ce concentrations remains unclear. Consequently, we measured the basic performance of YAP(Ce) plates with different Ce concentrations. We used three types of YAP(Ce) scintillator plates with different Ce concentrations 0.05% Ce, 1% Ce, and 2% Ce. The YAP(Ce) plates were 10 mm × 10 mm x 0.5 mm. We measured and compared the energy spectra, the decay times, the α-γ ratio, and the non-proportionality. We also evaluated the relation between these performances and the Ce concentrations. The light output of a YAP(Ce) showed positive correlation with the Ce concentrations, and the decay time of the YAP(Ce) showed a negative correlation with them. The energy resolution slightly improved for a YAP(Ce) with higher Ce concentrations. We found the α-γ ratio were slightly larger for higher Ce concentrations. The YAP(Ce) plate with a 2% Ce had the highest light output and the best energy resolution as well as the shortest decay time. Based on these results, the YAP(Ce) plate with a concentration of 2% Ce is a better selection for the development of radiation detectors or radiation imaging detectors for low-energy gamma photons or X-rays as well as alpha particles.

The carotid artery of 204 volunteers selected using simple random sampling were scanned using standard carotid doppler protocols. Four segments of the carotid artery - the common, internal, external carotid, and the carotid bulb were sonographically assessed. The intima-media thickness, diameter, peak systolic velocity, and end-diastolic velocity were measured at a point 2cm away from the carotid bifurcation for the three segments, while the carotid bulb was measured at the bifurcation. A 2D incompressible Navier-Stokes Equation for modelling Newtonian, pulsatile, and laminar flow in a viscoelastic pipe was applied to model velocity flow across the carotid artery using COMSOL software. WSS values were computed for experimental and CFD measurements and the results were compared.
