A handful of cases of protuberant fibro-osseous lesions of the temporal bones have been described in the literature to date, with primary focus on the pathologic features. Here we review 3 cases of pathology-proved protuberant fibro-osseous lesions of the temporal bone and include a literature review with a focus on the imaging features. While rare, these lesions have near-pathognomonic imaging features defined by a location at the cortex of the outer table of the temporal bone at the occipitomastoid suture, lack of involvement of the underlying marrow, variable mineralization, and MR signal characteristics atypical of a chondroid lesion. One case in this series was FDG-avid and had occasional mitotic features, possibly reflecting an aggressive variant. Neuroradiologists should be familiar with this benign diagnosis to aid in timely identification and avoid unnecessary additional imaging.We observed a lesion pattern in a series of 4 cases of RANBP2-mutation-linked acute necrotizing encephalopathy, which appears to be specific for this condition. The setting of synchronous bilateral mammillary, amygdaloid, and lateral geniculate lesions, along with claustro-parahippocampal lesions, can serve as a diagnostic tool in this condition. We add several further details to the MR imaging features of the typical brain lesions encountered in this disease.
Acute cerebellitis is an acute neurologic condition attributable to a recent or concurrent infection or a recent vaccination or ingestion of medication, with MR imaging evidence of cerebellar edema. MR imaging can confirm an anatomic abnormality and may allow the radiologist to establish a differential diagnosis. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the MR imaging findings in children with acute cerebellitis due to infectious versus immune-related conditions, in particular whether MR imaging findings allow differentiation.
Electronic medical records were reviewed between 2003 and 2020 in our quaternary children's hospital. Data included demographics and clinical records presentation/symptoms, final diagnosis including acute cerebellitis and immune-related acute cerebellitis, length of stay, treatment, condition at discharge, and laboratory findings. Retrospective independent review of all brain MR imaging studies was performed.
Forty-three patients (male/female ratio, 2815) were included in thisindicative of immune-related acute cerebellitis, and downward herniation may be indicative of infectious acute cerebellitis.
Prior studies have evaluated cochlear length using CT to select the most suitable cochlear implants and obtain patient-specific anatomy. This study aimed to test the accuracy and reliability of cochlear lateral wall length measurements using 3D MR imaging.
Two observers measured the cochlear lateral wall length of 35 patients (21 men) with postlingual hearing loss using CT and MR imaging. The intraclass correlation coefficient (with 95% confidence intervals) was used to evaluate intraobserver and interobserver reliability for the 3D cochlear measurements.
The mean age of the participants was 39.85 (SD, 16.60) years. JAK assay Observer 1 measured the mean lateral wall length as 41.52 (SD, 2.25) mm on CT and 41.44 (SD, 2.18) mm on MR imaging, with a mean difference of 0.08 mm (95% CI, -0.11 to 0.27 mm), while observer 2 measured the mean lateral wall length as 41.74 (SD, 2.69) mm on CT and 42.34 (SD, 2.53) mm on MR imaging, with a mean difference of -0.59 mm (95% CI, -1.00 to -0.20 mm). An intraclass correlation coe with comparably reliable results.
The golden-angle radial sparse parallel-volumetric interpolated breath-hold (GRASP-VIBE) sequence is a recently introduced imaging technique with high resolution. This study compared the image quality between conventional fat-suppressed T1-weighted TSE and GRASP-VIBE after gadolinium enhancement in the head and neck region.
Data from 65 patients with clinical indications for head and neck MR imaging between September 2020 and January 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Two radiologists assessed the overall image quality, overall artifacts, and image conspicuities in the oropharynx, hypopharynx, and cervical lymph nodes according to 5-point scores (best score 5). Interobserver agreement was assessed using weighted κ statistics. The SNR and contrast-to-noise ratio were calculated and compared between the 2 sequences using a paired Wilcoxon signed rank test.
The analysis included 52 patients (mean age, 60 [SD, 14 ] years; male, 71.2% [37/52]) who were mostly diagnosed with head and neck malignancies (94.3%
GRASP-VIBE provided better image quality with fewer artifacts than conventional fat-suppressed T1-weighted TSE for the head and neck regions.
Selective voluntary motor control is an important factor influencing gross motor function, interjoint coordination, and the outcome of hamstring-lengthening surgery in spastic cerebral palsy. Using DTI, we investigated whether selective voluntary motor control would show strong correlations with WM motor tract microstructure and whether selective voluntary motor control is more sensitive to global WM impairment than gross motor function.
Children with spastic bilateral cerebral palsy born preterm and typically developing children were recruited. The Selective Control Assessment of the Lower Extremity (SCALE) and Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) were assessed in participants with cerebral palsy. Participants underwent brain MR imaging to collect DWI data. Tract-Based Spatial Statistics was used to analyze the WM for between-group differences and correlations with SCALE and GMFM. ROI analyses compared motor regions.

The frequency and clinical significance of the susceptibility vessel sign in patients with acute ischemic stroke remains unclear. We aimed to assess its prevalence in patients with acute ischemic stroke undergoing mechanical thrombectomy and to analyze its association with interventional and clinical outcome parameters in that group.
Six hundred seventy-six patients with acute ischemic stroke and admission MR imaging were reviewed retrospectively. Of those, 577 met the eligibility criteria for further analysis. Imaging was performed using a 1.5T or 3T MR imaging scanner. Associations between baseline variables, interventional and clinical outcome parameters, and susceptibility vessel sign were determined with multivariable logistic regression models. Results are shown as adjusted ORs with 95% CIs.
The susceptibility vessel sign was present in 87.5% (
= 505) of patients and associated with tandem occlusion (adjusted OR, 3.3; 95% CI, 1.1-10.0;
= .032) as well as successful reperfusion, defined as an ee ischemic stroke and is associated with successful reperfusion after mechanical thrombectomy. However, superior clinical functional outcome and lower mortality noted in patients showing the susceptibility vessel sign could not be entirely attributed to higher reperfusion rates.
To determine if virtual care with remote automated monitoring (RAM) technology versus standard care increases days alive at home among adults discharged after non-elective surgery during the covid-19 pandemic.

905 adults (≥40 years) who resided in areas with mobile phone coverage and were to be discharged from hospital after non-elective surgery were randomised either to virtual care and RAM (n=451) or to standard care (n=454). 903 participants (99.8%) completed the 31 day follow-up.
Participants in the experimental group received a tablet computer and RAM technology that measured blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, and body weight. For 30 days the participants took daily biophysical measurements and photographs of their wound and interacted with nurses virtually. Participants in the standard care group received post-hospital discharge management according to the centre's usual care. .7%)
25 (5.5%); absolute difference 24.2%, 19.5% to 28.9%) and a drug error corrected (absolute difference 24.4%, 19.9% to 28.9%). Fewer participants in the virtual care group than standard care group reported pain at 7, 15, and 30 days after randomisation absolute differences 13.9% (7.4% to 20.4%), 11.9% (5.1% to 18.7%), and 9.6% (2.9% to 16.3%), respectively. ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04344665.In the phase III IMpower-010 trial, patients with non-small cell lung cancer whose disease returned after surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy received a year of adjuvant therapy with the immune checkpoint inhibitor atezolizumab. Use of this drug was associated with a 34% reduction in the risk of disease progression compared with best supportive care among patients whose tumors expressed PD-L1. The benefit was even greater in patients with PD-L1 expression of at least 50%.

Randomised controlled trials of participants with concussion that evaluated the effect of subthreshold aerobic exercise, cervical, vestibular and/or oculomotor therapies on days to recovery/return to activity, symptom scores, balance, gait and/or exercise capacity.
Twelve trials met the inclusion criteria 7 on subthreshold aerobic exercise, 1 on vestibular therapy, 1 on cervical therapy and 3 on individually tailored multimodal interventions. The trials were of fair to excellent quality on the PEDro scale. Eight trials were included in the quantitative analysis. Subthreshold aerobic exercise had a significant small to moderate effect in improving symptom scores (standardised mean differurn to sport and clinical improvement, specifically in those with persistent symptoms.

Hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell transplantation is the main treatment option for hematological malignancies and disorders. One strategy to solve the problem of low stem cell doses used in transplantation is pre-transplant expansion. We hypothesized that using fibronectin-coated microfluidic channels would expand HSPCs and keep self-renewal potential in a three-dimensional environment, compared to the conventional method. We also compared stem cell homing factors expression in microfluidic to conventional cultures.
A microfluidic device was created and characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The CD133+ cells were collected from cord blood and purified. They were subsequently cultured in 24-well plates and microfluidic bioreactor systems using the StemSpan serum-free medium. Eventually, we analyzed cell surface expression levels of the CXCR4 molecule and CXCR4 mRNA expression in CD133+ cells cultured in different systems.
The expansion results showed significant improvement in CD133+ cell expansion in the microfluidic system than the conventional method.
