A persistent stapedial artery is a congenital vascular malformation that can cause tinnitus and/or conductive hearing loss. Although rare, this case highlights the importance of recognizing aberrant anatomy as a potential cause of patients' symptoms. It also demonstrates how to recognize and treat patients with a symptomatic persistent stapedial artery.We report the case of a 10-year-old girl with a painless slowly growing mass that had developed over the course of 2 years in the left submandibular area. Physical examination revealed a firm painless submandibular mass with no other associated signs. Ultrasound graphics were in favor of a sebaceous cyst. Fine-needle aspiration and magnetic resonance images (MRI) concluded to a pleomorphic adenoma of the submandibular gland. The patient underwent left submandibulectomy. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma arising from the submandibular gland. The postoperative course was uneventful. Pleomorphic adenoma of the submandibular gland represents a diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma in children. Preoperative evaluation, including MRI and fine-needle aspiration, is recommended. Total submandibulectomy is also recommended to minimize recurrences and to avoid malignant transformation.The ciliary body (CB) is part of the uvea and is a complex, highly specialized structure with multiple functions and significant relationships with nearby structures. Its functions include the aqueous humor (AH) production in the ciliary processes, the regulation of the AH output through the uveoscleral pathway, and accommodation, which depends on the ciliary muscle. read more Also, the CB is an important determinant of angle width as it forms part of the ciliary sulcus. Until recently, knowledge of the CB was based on histological studies. However, this structure can currently be assessed in vivo using imaging techniques such as ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Both techniques have shown good reproducibility of their measurements allowing for quantification of CB dimensions and their localization. In effect, studies have shown a larger CB in myopia and its diminishing size with age. Swept-source OCT devices offer fast, non-invasive high-resolution imaging allowing the identification of multiple structures. UBM requires contact and is uncomfortable for the patient. However, this technique offers deeper imaging and therefore remains the gold standard for assessing the posterior chamber, ciliary processes, or zonula. The clinical utility of CB imaging includes its assessment in different types of glaucoma such as angle-closure, malignant or plateau iris. Diagnostic CB imaging is also invaluable for the assessment of ciliochoroidal detachment when suspected, the position after the implantation of a pre-crystalline or sulcus-sutured lenses, diagnosis or monitoring of cysts or tumors, sclerotomies after retinal surgery, intermediate uveitis, or accommodation.
To evaluate the influence of insufficient bone cement distribution on outcomes following percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP).
This retrospective matched-cohort study included patients 50-90 years of age who had undergone PVP for single level vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) from February 2015 to December 2018. Insufficient (Group A)/sufficient (Group B) distribution of bone cement in the fracture area was assessed from pre- and post-operative computed tomography (CT) images. Assessments were before, 3-days post-procedure, and at the last follow-up visit (≥12 months).
Of the 270 eligible patients, there were 54 matched pairs. On post-operative day 3 and at the last follow-up visit, significantly greater visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores were obtained in Group B over Group A, while kyphotic angles (KAs) and vertebral height (VH) loss were significantly larger in Group A compared with Group B. Incidence of asymptomatic cement leakage and re-collapse of cemented vertebrae were also greater in Group A compared with Group B.

Insufficient cement distribution may relate to less pain relief and result in progressive vertebral collapse and kyphotic deformity post-PVP.In the last few years, artificial intelligence (AI) research has been rapidly developing and emerging in the field of dental and maxillofacial radiology. Dental radiography, which is commonly used in daily practices, provides an incredibly rich resource for AI development and attracted many researchers to develop its application for various purposes. This study reviewed the applicability of AI for dental radiography from the current studies. Online searches on PubMed and IEEE Xplore databases, up to December 2020, and subsequent manual searches were performed. Then, we categorized the application of AI according to similarity of the following purposes diagnosis of dental caries, periapical pathologies, and periodontal bone loss; cyst and tumor classification; cephalometric analysis; screening of osteoporosis; tooth recognition and forensic odontology; dental implant system recognition; and image quality enhancement. Current development of AI methodology in each aforementioned application were subsequently discussed. Although most of the reviewed studies demonstrated a great potential of AI application for dental radiography, further development is still needed before implementation in clinical routine due to several challenges and limitations, such as lack of datasets size justification and unstandardized reporting format. Considering the current limitations and challenges, future AI research in dental radiography should follow standardized reporting formats in order to align the research designs and enhance the impact of AI development globally.Cholesterol granulomas are rare cystic inflammatory lesions characterized by the formation of cholesterol crystals. They are the most prevalent lesions of the petrous apex and when symptomatic, hearing loss, vertigo, tinnitus, headache, and facial pathology can be present. Surgical management is recommended in symptomatic patients. There are different surgical approaches to cholesterol granulomas. The aim of this article is to present and describe an endoscopic endonasal nasopharyngeal approach to a cholesterol granuloma and explain the advantages and disadvantages.
Checking nasogastric (NG) tube position by X-ray is too late to prevent 1.5% of blind tube placements entering the lung and results in delays to feeding and drugs. We audit the safety of the tube position and delay incurred by X-ray.
From Radiology reports, we determined whether tube position was safe for feeding, factors associated with an X-ray request and the time delay from X-ray request to that report. For tubes misplaced into the lung, the distance from the carina to tube tip was measured and compared with that from published records of guided tube placement.
From 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020, 1934 X-rays were done to check NG tube position in 891 patients. Gastric placement was confirmed in 85% but, because of tube proximity to the oesophagus, only 73% were deemed safe to feed. The 2.2% of tubes reported to be in the lung were a median of 18 cm beyond the carina compared to 12 cm and 0 cm for electromagnetic and direct vision methods of guided placement. To correlate the deterioration of preserved long head of biceps tendon (LHB) after rotator cuff repair with preoperative and postoperative MRI factors.
Total of 209 shoulder joints (F
= 14564; mean age 57.4 years) which underwent rotator cuff repair and at least two postoperative MRI scans over 10 months after surgery were included. LHB integrity was graded with a five point severity scale. LHB deterioration was defined by increased composite score of integrity and extent score between the preoperative and second postoperative MRI. For preoperative and postoperative MRI factors, size and location of superior cuff -supraspinatus and infraspinatus- and subscapularis tears, fatty degeneration of rotator cuff, preoperative LHB status, subluxation of LHB, superior labral tear, acromion type, repaired rotator cuff status, postoperative capsulitis and acromioplasty state were assessed. Logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between LHB deterioration and aforementioned factors. Same analysis was conducted for 62 shoulder joints with a long-term follow-up MRI.
Of the 209 shoulders, 49.3% (
= 103) showed LHB deterioration on short-term follow-up MRI. In long-term follow-up subgroup, 32 LHBs were further deteriorated. In multivariate analysis, fatty degeneration of superior cuff showed significant association with LHB deterioration in both short-term (
= .04,
= .007) and long-term subgroups (
= .004,
= .005) among preoperative and postoperative factors, respectively.
Degree of fatty degeneration in superior cuff is associated with LHB deterioration on postoperative MRI.
Our results support that tenotomy or tenodesis of LHB should be considered during rotator cuff repair, especially in patients with advanced fatty degeneration of rotator cuff.

New solutions for the dynamic assessment of the moving structures of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), such as the intra-articular disc and the head of the mandible, are required for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Therefore, we propose a simple, graded bite block for dynamic MRI examination of the TMJ.
The bite block consists of three main functional elements a groove for the biting edges of the upper incisors, steps with bite surfaces for the biting edges of the lower incisors and a handle for easy placement and control of the device. The block is easily manufactured using commercially available 3D printers. The closed-mouth part of the study was performed without the bite block. The patient was instructed to place the central incisors' biting edges in the upper groove. The lower incisors' biting edges were placed consecutively on the first step, second step, and so on, in increasing order, until maximal opening was reached.
Ninety-five MR examinations of TMJs were performed. The graded opening bite block was successfully applied in all but two patients.
In conclusion, the simple and easy-to-use graded bite block may be a useful addition to the armamentarium of a radiologist performing MRI scans of the TMJ.

Thus, this study aimed to examine the associations of dietary B vitamins intakes with the risk of depression in American adults. Methods The data we used in this study were from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007-2014. We used the Logistic regression models to analyze the associations of the dietary intakes of B vitamins with the risk of depression. Results 17,732 individuals (8,623 males and 9,109 females) were enrolled in the study and they were all 18 or older. Compared to the lowest quartile of dietary intake, the ORs (95%CIs) of the highest quartile were 0.64 (0.50-0.82), 0.78 (0.62-0.97), 0.60 (0.47-0.78), 0.65 (0.50-0.84), and 0.71 (0.54-0.95) for vitamin B1, vitamin B2, niacin, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12, respectively.
