The results indicate that conservation of Olive Ridley turtles should be more holistic, or ecosystem centric, rather than species centric. It is important to maintain the ecological integrity of their habitat for highly synchronized mass nesting event and eventually their survival.Real-time and near real-time monitoring of cell culture processes are critical to the evolving process analytical technology (PAT) paradigm for upstream bioprocessing. The responses measured from these analytical instruments can enable rapid feedback to perturbations that can otherwise lead to batch failures. Historically, real-time monitoring of bioreactor processes has been relegated to parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, and temperature. Other analytical results, such as cell growth and metabolites, are provided through manual daily sampling. In order to reduce sample error and increase throughput, real-time and near real-time instruments have been developed. Here we discuss recent advances in these technologies. This article aims to focus on other developing at-line and in-line technologies that enable monitoring of bioreactor processes, including dielectric spectroscopy, NIR, off-gas spectrometry, integrated at-line HPLC, and nanofluidic devices for monitoring cell growth and health, metabolites, titer, and product quality.
This study evaluates depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms in pregnant women before and during COVID-19 pandemic and analyzes their risk factors.
This was a cross-sectional analyses included pregnant women with depression, anxiety, and stress levels evaluated both in the Novel Coronavirus-Pregnancy Cohort study (NCP) and the Healthy Baby Cohort study (HBC). NCP was conducted during COVID-19 pandemic, while HBC was performed before the pandemic. Multiple logistic regressions were employed to evaluate the associations between COVID-19 pandemic and other co-variables and maternal mental health.
NCP and HBC studies respectively included 531 and 2352 participants. Depression rates differed significantly between the two studies (p<0.05). The mild and moderate-to-severe depression rates in NCP study were 25.8% and 10.36%, respectively, and 19.94% and 0.55% in HBC study. The stress rate of participants was higher in HBC study (69.39%) than in NCP study (60.45%) (p<0.05). COVID-19 pandemic was correlated with higher depression but lower stress risks (p<0.05) in pregnant women, with OR and 95% CI as 1.68 (1.16, 2.44) and 0.42 (0.29, 0.61), respectively. Pregnant women with pre-pregnancy obesity and high educational levels might have lower risks for depression, anxiety, and stress than those with normal weight and low educational levels.
Depression among pregnant women was impacted by the pandemic. Apart from COVID-19 pandemic impact, pre-pregnant weight status and educational level might also influence depression, anxiety and stress statuses in pregnant women.

We report the case of a 63-year-old cocaine body packer, who died from an aortic dissection. He was arrested in Paris as he disembarked from a flight from Cayenne (French Guinea) and custom officers found cocaine in his suitcase. The patient admitted the ingestion of cocaine packets. He was transferred to the hospital where an initial computerized tomography scan showed hyperdense, uniformly shaped packets located in the colon. On admission, his blood pressure was elevated but he did not exhibit any other signs of adrenergic syndrome. The diagnosis of chronic hypertension unrelated to the cocaine body packing was retained. During hospitalization, 40 h after the ingestion of the cocaine packets, the patient showed acute agitation, sweat and a high blood pressure. Given the context, an emergency thoraco-abdominal-pelvic CT-scan was carried out to rule out a cocaine leakage. None of the packets showed evidence of leakage but the CT-scan assessed an aortic dissection extending to the entire descending aorta. Despite intensive care, the patient passed away on the fifth day. This aortic dissection could have appeared spontaneously in a patient with significant atherosclerosis lesions of the aortic network. Nevertheless, we believe that cocaine impregnation causing high blood pressure might have played a role in the aortic dissection, even without a cocaine leakage from the packets. This case highlights the need to achieve an effective control of the blood pressure in cocaine body packers.Face matching decisions in applied settings are typically carried out by trained face-matching professionals, known as facial reviewers and facial examiners. Recent research has demonstrated that short professional face-matching training courses are limited in improving face-matching accuracy, however, despite the existence of high-level training guidelines produced by the practitioner community the content, duration and delivery of training for facial reviewers and facial examiners are not widely understood in the academic research community. The current study aimed to address this gap in the scientific literature to better understand how different agencies train facial reviewers and facial examiners, using results collected from an international survey. The survey included questions on the duration, delivery and content of an agencies face-matching training. 24 face-matching agencies from five continents took part in the survey. A quantitative analysis of the survey results revealed that at the group level facial examiners received longer durations of training, covering more topics than reviewers and more frequently included one-to-one mentoring. 4-PBA HDAC inhibitor However, the survey revealed large differences in the duration, delivery methods and content of training by individual agencies at both the facial review and facial examiner level and low inclusion of evidence-based training practices. These results should help researchers to better understand the diversity in training practices and durations of training between different agencies and may help explain the individual differences observed in the performance of face matching professionals in the literature.Sharp force fatalities may have a homicidal, suicidal or accidental manner of death. To aid in such differentiation this study aimed to identify medico-legal elements which were predictors of a given manner of death as well as to describe the characteristics of these deaths. A retrospective review was performed on all homicides and suicides due to sharp force injury admitted at the South Branch of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences between January 2012 and December 2019. Deaths with a performed external examination or forensic autopsy and with available demographic, circumstantial or necroscopic information were included. Each case was reviewed to collect said information and inferential analysis was employed with both parametric and non-parametric tests as well as binary logistic regression to identify independent predictors, with significance defined at α = 0.05. A total of 57 homicides and 20 suicides were identified, with the obtained demographic and circumstantial profile of tent conclusion, all investigative elements must be considered while attending to the specifics of each case.Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity. The key component of TBI pathophysiology is traumatic axonal injury (TAI), commonly referred to as diffuse axonal injury (DAI). Coma is a serious complication which can occur following traumatic brain injury (TBI). Recently, studies have shown that the central orexinergic/ hypocretinergic system exhibit prominent arousal promoting actions. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate by immunohistochemistry the expression of beta-amyloid precursor protein (β-APP) in white matter of parasagittal region, corpus callosum and brainstem and the expression of orexin-A (ORXA) in the hypothalamus after traumatic brain injury. RESULTS DAI was found in 26 (53.06%) cases, assessed with β-APP immunohistochemical staining in parasagittal white matter, corpus callosum and brainstem. Orexin-A immunoreactivity in hypothalamus was completely absent in 5 (10.2%) of the cases; moderate reduction of ORXA was observed in 9 (18.4%) of the cases; and severe reduction was observed in 7 (14.3%) of the cases. A statistically significant correlation was found between β-APP immunostaining in white matter, corpus callosum and brainstem in relation to survival time (p less then 0.002, p less then 0.003 and p less then 0.005 respectively). A statistically positive correlation was noted between ORX-A immunoreactivity in hypothalamus to survival time (p less then 0.003). An inverse correlation was noted between the expression of β-APP in the regions of brain studied to the expression of ORX-A in the hypothalamus of the cases studied (p less then 0.005). CONCLUSIONS The present study demonstrated by immunohistochemistry that reduction of orexin-A neurons in the hypothalamus, involved in coma status and arousal, enhanced the immunoexpression of β-APP in parasagital white matter, corpus callosum and brainstem.
To investigate whether null variants of Glutathione S-transferase Mu 1 (GSTM1) and GST Theta 1 (GSTT1) in infants and mothers, as well as maternal exposures to environmental factors, contribute to the risk of non-syndromic cleft lip with or without palate (NSCL/P) in a Mexican population.
We performed a matched pair case-control study, including 98 cases and 98 controls and their mothers. Sociodemographic information and environmental exposures were collected by a questionnaire. Null variants of GSTM1 and GSTT1 were assessed by multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Odds ratios (OR) and their 95 % confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to estimate risks. The interaction of genetic variables with smoking and adjusted ORs were evaluated by binary logistic regression.
Homozygous null GSTM1 was associated with the risk of NSCL/P when present in mothers (OR = 2.45, 95 % CI 1.23-4.86) or infants (OR = 2.98, 95 % CI 1.45-6.14). A higher risk was also found when children carried the homozygous null GSTT1 (OR = 4.89, 95 % CI 2.42-9.87). In mothers, this variant showed a crude risk of 9.17 (95 % CI 3.95-21.29), which increased to OR = 13.81 (95 % CI 1.63-117.09) upon interaction with frequent passive smoking (5-7 days/week). Sociodemographic and other environmental exposures were not significantly associated with the risk of NSCL/P.
Maternal and infant GSTT1 and GSTM1 homozygous null genotypes were associated with a higher risk of NSCL/P, and the results suggest an interaction of the maternal GSTT1-null/null genotype with frequent passive smoking.
