The aim of this prospective longitudinal study was to examine the association between Cesarean section (CS) and child development and behavior. The sample consisted of 256 children who were born at term without serious perinatal pathologies. Their development and behavior was assessed at the age of four using Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3), Children's Behavior Questionnaire and Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire. Multivariate linear regression analyses were conducted to assess the association between CS and child outcomes. CS was associated with better scores in the Problem Solving domain of the ASQ in the whole sample. After stratifying by child sex, the positive association between CS and the Problem Solving domain was significant in boys, while no association was found in girls. Girls were rated less optimally in the Gross Motor domain of the ASQ when born via CS. Mode of birth was not associated with behavioral outcomes.Staphylococcins are antimicrobial peptides or proteins produced by staphylococci. In this review, an overview of the current knowledge on staphylococcins will be presented with emphasis on the information collected in the last decade, including a brief description of new peptides. Most staphylococcins characterized to date are either lantibiotics or linear class II bacteriocins. Recently, gene clusters coding for production of circular bacteriocins, sactipeptides, and thiopeptides have been mined from the genome of staphylococcal isolates. Higher density of house dust mites was associated with the following factors higher age of building, higher number of roommates, higher washing frequency per week, presence of carpeted floor in bedrooms, wooden floors in kitchens, closed kitchen, uphoplstered furniture, absence of pets and unemployed housewives.
Hypertension is a growing clinical problem in pediatric population. Also, the cause of hypertension is usually unknown and it may result from systemic inflammation related to tooth decay.

To estimate the potential association in cross-sectional study between tooth decay and hypertension in children and adolescents.

Study group-65 children diagnosed with primary arterial hypertension; control subjects-44 normotensive children. Blood pressure, dental examination, measurement of salivary cortisol, alpha-amylase, secretory IgA, and lysozyme concentrations were performed in all of the children.

Hyper- and normotensive children had similar peripheral blood morphology and serum biochemical parameters, except of uric acid concentration, which was significantly higher in the study group (p=.047). Salivary evening concentrations of cortisol and alpha-amylase were significantly higher in hypertensive children (p=.002 and p=.004, respectively). Although 24-hr systolic blood pressure (SBP), including daytime and nighttime SBP, correlated with "decay," "microalbuminuria," "BMI," and "glomerular filtration rate" (r>.75, r>.7, r<.68, and r<.43, respectively), in multivariate analysis only "decay" was associated with hypertension both in children and in adolescents (p<.0001).

OsbHLH6 (hereafter bHLH6), an uncharacterized rice (Oryza sativa) Pi starvation response gene encoding a basic helix-loop-helix protein, was identified by yeast two-hybrid screening using the phosphate response repressor OsSPX4 (hereafter SPX4) as bait. bHLH6 is expressed in shoots and roots, and its expression is significantly induced in shoots by Pi deficiency. bHLH6 overexpression lines showed Pi accumulation and enhanced Pi starvation responses, including upregulation of Pi starvation-induced genes and longer root hairs. A bhlh6 mutant showed no significant phenotype variation at the seedling stage. A pull-down assay indicated that bHLH6 had higher binding affinity with SPX4 compared to OsPHR2; therefore, bHLH6 competitively inhibited the interaction of SPX4 and OsPHR2. SPX4 overexpression rescued the Pi accumulation caused by bHLH6 overexpression under high- and low-P conditions.
