Forty pregnant women were allocated into two groups elastic group (n= 20) and placebo group (n= 20). All participants were taped by either stretched (elastic group) or non-stretched (placebo group) Kinesio tape at the lower back area for one week.

After the application of stretched elastic tape, lower back pain was significantly reduced by 29.4% (p= 0.003) immediately post-taping and by a further 75.4% after wearing the tape for a week. Sorensen Test time-to-task-failure (TTF) predicts several low back pain (LBP) clinical outcomes, including recurrence. Because the test is described as a measure of trunk extensor (TE) muscle endurance, LBP rehabilitation programs often emphasize endurance training, but the direct role of TE muscle function on Sorensen Test-TTF remains unclear.

To assess the discriminative and associative properties of multiple markers of isolated TE performance with regard to Sorensen Test-TTF in individuals with recurrent LBP.

Secondary analysis of baseline measures from participants in a registered (NCT02308189) trial (10 men; 20 women) was performed. Participants were classified by Sorensen Test-TTF as high, moderate or low risk for subsequent LBP episodes, and compared to determine if classification could discriminate differences in TE function. Correlations between Sorensen Test-TTF and isolated TE performance, anthropometrics and disability were investigated.

Individuals at risk of subsequent LBP episodes had greater perceived disability and fat mass/TE strength ratios (P⩽ 0.05) than those not at risk. Modest, significant (r= 0.36-0.42, P⩽ 0.05) associations were found between Sorensen Test-TTF, TE endurance and fat mass/TE strength. Exploratory analyses suggested possible sex-specific differences related to Sorensen Test-TTF.

Isolated TE muscle endurance is only one of several factors with similar influence on Sorensen Test-TFF, thus LBP rehabilitation strategies should consider other factors, including TE strength, anthropometrics and perceived disability.

In this study, three dental implants with the same connection were subjected to different dynamic loading cycles. The fracture strengths and the horizontal compatibility of implants were assessed.

Eighty four implant specimens were embedded in a polyacetal cylinder as simulated bone loss of 3 mm from the implant platform. Three of the implants were used to determine the endurance limit. The other specimens were subdivided into four subgroups (n = 6) three for dynamic + static loading, and one for static loading (control group). The tests were performed by applying a compression load. The dynamic loading experiments included three different cycles with endurance upper limit loads at a frequency of 10 Hz.

The differences between the fracture strength values of the implant brands were found to be statistically significant. However, there were no meaningful differences between the fracture strength values of implants of the same brand. The specimens of the DTI implant system had the lowest strength (647.9 ± 41.5N) and the SEM analysis indicated that the Implantium implant system had the shortest horizontal gaps.

Thyroid ultrasonography is widely used to diagnose thyroid nodules in clinics. Automatic localization of nodules can promote the development of intelligent thyroid diagnosis and reduce workload of radiologists. However, besides the ultrasound image has low contrast and high noise, the thyroid nodules are diverse in shape and vary greatly in size. Thus, thyroid nodule detection in ultrasound images is still a challenging task.

This study proposes an automatic detection algorithm to locate nodules in B ultrasound images and Doppler ultrasound images. This method can be used to screen thyroid nodules and provide a basis for subsequent automatic segmentation and intelligent diagnosis.

We develop and optimize an improved YOLOV3 model for detecting thyroid nodules in ultrasound images with B-mode and Doppler mode. Improvements include (1) using the high-resolution network (HRNet) as the basic network for gradually extracting high-level semantic features to reduce the missed detection and misdetection, (2) optimizing the loss function for single target detection like nodules, and (3) obtaining the anchor boxes by clustering the candidate frames of real nodules in the dataset.

The experimental results of applying to 8000 clinical ultrasound images show that the new method developed and tested in this study can effectively detect thyroid nodules. The method achieves 94.53% mean precision and 95.00% mean recall.

The study demonstrates a new automated method that enables to achieve high detection accuracy and effectively locate thyroid nodules in various ultrasound images without any user interaction, which indicates its potential clinical application value for the thyroid nodule screening.
