Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) is a biogenic polymer that has the potential to substitute synthetic plastic in numerous applications. This is due to its unique attribute of being a biodegradable and biocompatible thermoplastic, achievable through microbial fermentation from a broad utilizable range of renewable resources. Among all the PHAs discovered, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB-co-4HB)] stands out as a next generation healthcare biomaterial for having high biopharmaceutical and medical value since it is highly compatible to mammalian tissue. This review provides a critical assessment and complete overview of the development and trend of P(3HB-co-4HB) research over the last few decades, highlighting aspects from the microbial strain discovery to metabolic engineering and bioprocess cultivation strategies. The article also outlines the relevance of P(3HB-co-4HB) as a material for high value-added products in numerous healthcare-related applications.
Central vascular catheters (CVCs) are frequently used in newborns in NICU. Ultrasound (US) guided supraclavicular venipuncture of the brachiocephalic vein (BCV) is usually performed with a 12 MHz linear probe and then a catheter tip location is verified with an 8 MHz micro-convex probe or intracavitary ECG (IC-ECG). We explored the feasibility of an US guided puncture using a 7 MHz sector probe, positioned on the clavicular sternal joint. We also explored the opportunity of performing it with a probe tilting tip navigation and tip location.
This is a monocentric retrospective observational study made in the neonatal intensive care unit L. Vanvitelli University Hospital of Naples, Italy.
Forty newborns in NICU scheduled for an ultrasound guided CVC.
US guided brachiocephalic vein catheterization. We used A long axis in plane supraclavicular approach to the BCV for real time puncture, for tip navigation and tip location, using a 7 MHz sector transducer. We executed an ultrasound pre-scan of the Y-shape (right and left BCV, superior vena cava (SVC)) and of the right pulmonary artery (RPA), and then we performed a guided sterile puncture on middle third of supraclavicular fossa next to clavicular sternal joint with a 7 MHz. We used the same probe for tip navigation by this supraclavicular short axis of ascending aorta view. Tip location was confirmed with the ultrasound and IC-ECG.
In all infants the ultrasound tip navigation and tip location were successful and were confirmed by IC-ECG. No misplacement, arterial puncture or pneumothorax occurred.
The supraclavicular view performed with a 7 MHz sector probe has proved to be completely safe and to be a method with 100% feasibility.

Hemoptysis is a complication in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and is associated with pulmonary exacerbations and hospitalizations. Pancreatic insufficiency is common in CF patients, and therefore these patients may benefit from the use of vitamin K therapy.
This was an observational study conducted in adult CF patients aiming to describe the utilization of vitamin K therapy in the setting of hemoptysis during an acute CF pulmonary exacerbation. Hospital length of stay, time until the next pulmonary exacerbation, and 30-day re-admission rates were evaluated in CF patients who presented with hemoptysis, and an acute pulmonary exacerbation, and received vitamin K therapy.
The average daily dose of vitamin K therapy was 10 mg for an average duration of 4.9±0.55days for 38 adult CF patients included in this cohort. The median length of stay among patients who received vitamin K therapy was 8days (IQR 6-12days). The median time until next hospital admission was 127days (95% CI 71.4 to 182.6days), and the 30-day readmission rates were 7.89%. Two patients developed thromboembolism after receiving vitamin K therapy.
Evidence for the use of vitamin K therapy in the setting of CF-related hemoptysis remains unclear and further efficacy and safety evaluation is warranted. Further prospective studies are needed to determine the optimal dosing and duration of vitamin K therapy, as well as to determine its role according to hemoptysis severity during a pulmonary CF exacerbation.

Methods The stages of disease were determined prospectively based on existing definitions. The two systems were compared for timing of stages using box plots, correspondence using chi-square tests and association using Spearman's rank correlation. Results The distribution of stages differed between the two systems. The proportions of disease stages of the King's staging system were more evenly distributed whereas in MiToS, there was greater weight seen at the later stages of disease. At the early stages, patients moved consecutively in the MiToS staging system but not in the King's staging system where patients tended to skip stages to reach later stages. Both systems had good correlation (Spearman's rho = 0.869) and the King's stage 4 most frequently corresponded to MiToS stage 2. Conclusion We found the King's staging was helpful in determining the stages of disease burden, whereas both were helpful in determining the time to functional dependence with MiToS further refining the levels of dependence.
Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumour (AT/RT) is a highly malignant central nervous system tumour of early childhood. According to the latest WHO classification, the diagnosis of AT/RTs needs to be confirmed by the absence of SMARCB1 (INI1) or SMARCA4 (BRG1) protein expression. see more AT/RT in the pineal region is infrequent and most have not been proven genetically. Here, we report a case of AT/RT in the pineal region, preoperatively misdiagnosed as a meningioma. Immunohistochemistry revealed the absence of INI1 protein expression.
A 29-month-old boy was admitted to the hospital after 14 days of emotional apathy and a 2-day vomiting history. AT/RT was not considered during the initial diagnosis because this tumour is rare in this region and is often accompanied by cystic degeneration and necrosis on imaging. Subsequently, the patient underwent surgery and the tumour was completely excised.
The pathological diagnosis was AT/RT. After discharge, the patient continued chemotherapy in other hospitals but died five months after surgery because of disease progression.
To our knowledge, this is the fifth case of paediatric pineal AT/RT confirmed genetically. Although in children AT/RT in the pineal gland is rare, a differential diagnosis of AT/RT should be considered when new pineal masses appear in children. For this highly malignant disease with poor prognosis, it is very important to detect and recognize the disease as soon as possible, and to adopt surgery plus multiple treatment management.

While countries around the world concentrate on controlling the pandemic to minimize damage to this country, the positive psychology brought to nurses and general public (GP) by COVID-19 should not be ignored. This study aims to assess post-traumatic growth (PTG) of Chinese nurses and GP during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study employed PTG in Chinese nurses and GP with Posttraumatic growth inventory questionnaire (PTGI) via a mobile app-based questionnaire, anxiety and ways to copy with stress in nurses were also employed. A total of 455 nurses and 424 GP were included in the statistical analysis. Results indicated that score of total PTGI and three dimensions, new possibilities, personal strength and spiritual change, were different between nurses and GP. Furthermore, score of total PTGI and all domains were significantly different between 178 front-line nurses (FLNs) and 277 non-front-line nurses (nFLNs). Importantly, sex, marriage status, professional titles, fertility, anxiety and ways to copy with stress were associated with PTG in nurses. Moreover, marriage status and ways to copy with stress were the predictors of PTG in nurses. Interestingly, this study found that WeChat network psychological counseling and phone app of application self-relaxation were good and effective coping strategies for nurses to relieve stress. Thus, the development of valid intervention programs for nurses to diminish job burnout and increase care quality was also important. In two studies, using a mix of samples, we examined the influence of weight bias on behaviors in competitive, potentially high stakes situations. As predicted, weight bias directed focal actors' treatment of counterparts in a negotiation. Negotiators made lower value offers to overweight counterparts relative to average-weight counterparts. In addition, overweight counterparts also received more negative messages over the course of their negotiation and were evaluated less favorably after the negotiation than average-weight counterparts. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic peak around March 2020 led to temporary closures of most fertility clinics. Many clinics reopened but required universal SARS-CoV-2 screening. However, the rate of positive results and the necessity for such testing is unknown. We report here on early results from asingle-center academic NewYork fertility practice utilizing universal SARS-CoV-2 screening. This mixed prospective retrospective cohort included 164 patients who underwent at least one SARS-CoV-2 screening test for fertility treatment between May and July2020. Patients completed 1 to 3 nasopharyngeal SARS-CoV-2 tests per cycle and remained symptom-free to continue fertility treatments. SARS-CoV-2 test results, past results, history of Covid-19 infection, and patient/cycle characteristics were recorded and tabulated through October2020. Outcomes included positive SARS-CoV-2 RNA tests, rate of prior Covid-19 infections, and clinical courses of patients testing positive. Patients underwent 263 cycles entailing 460 total SARS-CoREI reproductive endocrinology and infertility; IUI intrauterine insemination; IVF in vitro fertilization; sono sonography; cryo cryopreservation; FET frozen embryo transfer. Objective Methylated CpG binding protein 2 (MeCP2) is closely associated with heart failure, but its role in I/R injury remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to explore the role and underling mechanism of MeCP2 in myocardial I/R injury. Methods Hypoxia/reperfusion (H/R)-induced H9c2 cardiomyocytes was used to establish an in vitro I/R injury model. Oxidative stress was assessed by measuring reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, malondialdehyde (MDA) content and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. Cell viability and cell cycle arrest were evaluated by the Cell Counting Kit-8 assay and cell cycle assay, respectively. Apoptosis was determined using flow cytometry analysis. Results The expression of MeCP2 in H9c2 cells was decreased after H/R treatment. The overexpression of MeCP2 inhibited H/R-induced oxidative stress, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of H9c2 cells. Moreover, MeCP2 inhibited the activation of secreted frizzled related protein 4 (SFRP4)/Wnt/β-catenin axis, and SFRP4 relieved the effect of MeCP2 on oxidative stress, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in H/R-induced H9c2 cells.
