Histological analysis showed that alkaline phosphatase and CD31 positive cells significantly increased in the males after CD treatment. The number of empty lacunae in the surrounding trabecular bone was significantly higher in the CD group. The current study indicated that CD improved the morphological properties, but did not improve the mechanical strength in the femoral head at early-stage ONFH. These data suggest the need for additional biological, mechanical strategies, and therapeutic windows to improve the outcome of early-stage steroid-associated ONFH.
The oncologic safety of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) alone for clinically node-positive (cN1-2) patients who convert to pathologic node-negativity (ypN0) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is not well established.
This study retrospectively identified 244 consecutive patients with a diagnosis of cT1-3cN0-2 breast cancer who underwent NAC followed by SLNB at the authors' institution between 2013 and 2018. The patients were categorized as clinically node-negative (cN0) or cN1-2 before the onset of NAC, and the Kaplan-Meier method was used to compare locoregional and distant recurrence rates after SLNB alone for ypN0 patients.
Among 244 patients who underwent NAC followed by surgery with SLNB for axillary staging, 112 (45.9%) were cN0 at presentation, whereas 132 (54.5%) had biopsy-proven cN1-2 disease and converted to cN0 after treatment. Of the patients presenting with cN0 disease, 102 (91.1%) were ypN0 on SLNB pathology compared with 60 cN1/2 patients (45.5%; p < 0.001). Regional nodal irradiational follow-up data from prospective clinical trials are needed to confirm long-term oncologic safety and define optimal local therapy recommendations. The current study was conducted to investigate mental health levels in Korean adults during the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and determine their predictors. The study was conducted online, and 334 adults from 14 locations in Korea participated. click here Data collection was conducted from May 19 to May 24, 2020, using a questionnaire consisting of general and COVID-19-related characteristics, perceived physical health, individual and community resilience, and mental health. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, t test, one-way analysis of variance, and hierarchical regression were used. In cases where women were more vulnerable to mental health problems and gender was controlled, regression analysis showed that individual resilience (β = -0.212, p less then 0.001), perceived physical health (β = -0.160, p = 0.004), and community resilience (β = -0.119, p = 0.031) had an effect on mental health. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, communities should screen groups vulnerable to mental health problems and develop an integrated mental health program that incorporates predictors of mental health difficulties. [Journal of Psychosocial Nursing and Mental Health, xx(x), xx-xx.].Nuclear speckles (NS) are among the most prominent biomolecular condensates. Despite their prevalence, research on the function of NS is virtually restricted to colocalization analyses, since an organizing core, without which NS cannot form, remains unidentified. The monoclonal antibody SC35, raised against a spliceosomal extract, is frequently used to mark NS. Unexpectedly, we found that this antibody was mischaracterized and the main target of SC35 mAb is SRRM2, a spliceosome-associated protein that sharply localizes to NS. Here we show that, the core of NS is likely formed by SON and SRRM2, since depletion of SON leads only to a partial disassembly of NS, while co-depletion of SON and SRRM2 or depletion of SON in a cell-line where intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) of SRRM2 are genetically deleted, leads to a near-complete dissolution of NS. This work, therefore, paves the way to study the role of NS under diverse physiological and stress conditions.Self-management strategies are essential for improving prognosis in chronic illnesses. This study aimed to investigate the association between comorbidity and self-management strategies. A total of 700 patients with one or more chronic diseases including diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, osteoporosis, chronic lung disease, chronic kidney disease and arthritis were enrolled. A questionnaire including the Smart Management Strategy for Health Assessment Tool Short Form (SAT), the Short Form-12, the McGill Quality of Life questionnaire, and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 was administered to participants. The trend of each SAT according to number of comorbidities was evaluated, and the difference in quality of life and depression according to self-management strategies was examined in the model classified by the number of diseases. Self-management strategy scores tended to decrease as the number of comorbidities increased from one to four (p-value 0.001 to 0.008). Regardless of the number of comorbidities, the MQOL score was higher in the good self-management strategy group (p less then 0.001 to 0.016). The prevalence of mild depression was higher in patients with low self-management strategy, but the differences were not significant. Based on these findings, self-management strategies should be evaluated multidimensionally, and patients should be encouraged to develop effective self-management strategies to manage multiple chronic diseases.Vagus nerve injury may complicate carotid endarterectomy (CEA). The recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) branches from the vagus nerve, innervating the ipsilateral vocal cord. Vagus nerve injury can cause vocal cord dysfunction. Intraoperative vocal cord monitoring can detect vagus nerve injury during CEA. A patient with distorted neck anatomy from radiotherapy to treat oropharyngeal cancer and resultant right vocal cord paralysis required left CEA. Anticipating difficult neck dissection risking vagus nerve damage with associate RLN malfunction, we added vocal cord electromyography (EMG) to routine CEA electroencephalography (EEG). We recommend vocal cord EMG in anatomically complex CEA to avoid vagus nerve injury.
To report the surgical survival of dams and piglets and follow-up survival and future breeding potential of swine that underwent cesarean section for correction of dystocia.
Retrospective study.
One hundred ten client-owned, female swine. All swine included in this study were breeding stock for market pigs to be used for exhibition purposes.
Medical records of swine that underwent cesarean section at The Ohio State University Hospital for Farm Animals for resolution of dystocia between January of 2013 and July of 2018 were reviewed. Signalment, history, number of piglets per litter, treatments, and surgical procedure were recorded. Follow-up information (survival, complications, and additional pregnancies) was obtained via telephone interview.
A fetus was not palpable in 77 of 110 (70%) cases at presentation. The median litter size was eight piglets (range, 1-14), with medians of five (range, 0-13) live and one dead (range, 0-11) piglets per litter. Follow-up was available for 52 dams, of which 39 (75%) survived.
