Are You Suffering From Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?
It's not likely to be an issue if you believe that forgetting important dates or losing your wallet or being constantly late, are normal traits of your personality. These behaviors could be signs of adult ADHD.
ADD is more prevalent in older adults than was previously acknowledged, but is frequently missed by family doctors. Patients with ADD are usually diagnosed with mental health disorders that are comorbid, such as mood disorders, anxiety and addiction issues.
1. You're having a hard time Concentrating
If you have trouble focus it could be a sign that something is interfering in your ability to concentrate. You might want to talk to your doctor about getting tested for adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) if this is a problem for you. There are some things you can try to help improve your focus, including eliminating distractions or taking a medication that improves concentration.
Adults exhibit less obvious signs of ADHD than children. They may show up as a general restlessness or feeling anxious. Fidgeting happens when you cannot remain still, use your phone, or draw during meetings. These actions can cause you to overlook important information, or make it difficult for others to comprehend the meaning behind your words.
You may also be forgetting things, such as appointments, tasks and other obligations. You might be inclined to delay things and stay up late to finish school work or working on a project days before the deadline. These behaviors may seem like normal traits of a person that will never change--but when they're impacting your interactions and work it could mean that you have ADD.
3. You're Always Late
If you're always late and find yourself making excuses, it could be a sign you have an adult addition. Carmel Moore, a time management expert, suggests that people who are always late might be impulsive or driven by the need to rush. They also often engage in illusions, believing that it will take less time than it actually does.
4. iampsychiatry.uk Have a Hard Time managing your time
Many adults have carried this characteristic from childhood. It could be a feature of your personality that you just cannot change. You may still delay responding to texts or calling people back. You might be always late to work or other activities. If these behaviors are disrupting your life, it could be a sign of an adult add. The delay in addressing issues can cause depression, anxiety, and eventually burnout.
5. You have a difficult time Being Well-organized
You might think that your procrastination issues from high school have passed, but these tendencies persist into adulthood. For instance, if you frequently have trouble finding things, or putting items in places where others can see they are a sign that you're in need of improving your organizational skills. If you're constantly hitting the snooze button on your alarm, and then not remembering to feed your cat or family members or putting off assignments until the last minute, this could indicate that you suffer from adult ADHD. These issues must be treated before they cause harm to your career, relationships or mental health. Fortunately, help is readily available.
