Remnant radioiodine ablation is discouraged in low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer because it confers no survival advantage. The impact of remnant radioiodine ablation on health-related quality of life in these patients is not well described. We hypothesized remnant radioiodine ablation is associated with lower health-related quality of life in early-stage differentiated thyroid cancer survivors.
A retrospective matched-pair analysis was conducted in stage I differentiated thyroid cancer survivors recruited from a thyroid cancer support group. Surgical and remnant radioiodine ablation-associated complications were associated with significantly worse PROMIS scores across multiple domains.

Our goal is early detection of neuropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes with or without microalbuminuria in the absence of diabetic retinopathy and peripheral neuropathy by using in vivo corneal confocal microscopy (IVCCM).
A total of 60 type-2 diabetic patients, assigned to either a diabetes mellitus (DM) with microalbuminuria group (DM/MA+, n=30) or a DM without microalbuminuria group (DM/MA-, n=30), and 30 age-matched control subjects were enrolled in this study. All cases underwent evaluation of blood glucose level, HbA
, lipid fractions, body mass index (BMI), and corneal sensitivity (CS). Corneal nerve fiber length (NFL), nerve fiber density (NFD), nerve branch density (NBD), and tortuosity coefficient (TC) were quantified by IVCCM. None of the patients had peripheral neuropathy or retinopathy.
Compared with the healthy subjects, NFL and NFD were reduced in both diabetic groups (P<0.0001), while NBD was significantly reduced in the DM/MA+ group. Between the diabetic groups, NFL, NFD, and NB. This feature may also be valuable for early detection of microvascular complications of DM, allowing for the prevention of progression of life threatening microvascular complications.

A systematic review was performed of all published studies in MEDLINE, EMBASE, LILACS, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. At least 2 reviewers conducted title/abstract, full-text review, and data extraction. Quality of evidence was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS).
Forty-four studies met inclusion criteria; 37 had sufficient data for meta-analysis. There were no associations any vaccine regimen (random-effects logistic regression odds ratio [95% confidence interval] 0.961 [0.822-1.124]; n=21 studies) BCG (0.927 [0.701-1.226]; n=8), pertussis (0.790 [0.416-1.499]; n=4), single (1.031 [0.920-1.155]; n=17) or multiple vaccines (0.902 [0.608-1.338]; n=7) with likelihood of AD. This remained true in studies with high-quality (NOS≥7) (OR [95% CI] 0.941 [0.793-1.117]; n=13 studies) or low-quality (NOS<7) (OR [95% CI] 1.058 [0.669-1.674]; n=8 studies).

Here we describe the prevalence of rudimentary wings in extant birds, and how wings wax and wane on many timescales. This waxing and waning is integral to the avian clade and offers a rich arena for exploring links between form, function, performance, behavior, ecology, and evolution. Although our understanding is nascent, birds clearly show that rudimentary structures can enhance performance and survival.
To determine whether there are differences between idiopathic and hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) associated pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) (HHT-PAVM) regarding clinical and radiographic characteristics, and the results of embolotherapy.
A retrospective analysis was undertaken of all adult and adolescent patients who were diagnosed with a PAVM on chest computed tomography (CT) from January 2006 until August 2019.
In total, 41 patients with idiopathic PAVMs and 194 patients with genetically confirmed HHT and PAVMs were included. Idiopathic PAVMs were more frequently observed in female patients, were more solitary, and predominantly located in the lower lobes. The diameter of the feeding artery and type of PAVM (simple versus complex) were similar. Embolotherapy results were comparable between both groups with similar re-embolisation rates.
PAVMs of idiopathic origin are predominantly found in women, more frequently located in the lower lobes, and solitary compared to HHT-PAVMs; however, the outcome of treatment is the same, suggesting that treatment and follow-up should be similar in both groups.
