The accurate determination of trace elements in vegetable edible oils is still an analytical challenge, owing to their low concentration levels and the complex matrix of the vegetable oils. The aim of this study was to develop a fast and simple analytical method to quantify 45 elements in small mass samples (0.5 g) of extra virgin olive oils by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. To evaluate the best and fastest sample preparation procedure, ultrasonic extraction and wet digestion methods were compared using oil certified reference material with different reagent mixtures, reagent volumes, and times for sample extraction or digestion. The use of 5 mL reagent mixture F [10% (v/v) HNO3 and H2O2, 21 (v/v)] for sample digestion in a water bath (95 °C, 40 min) was found to produce satisfactory results in all cases as validated from sample recovery experiments over three different extra virgin olive oil samples.Collagen Type I derived from fish is mainly limited by its poor physicochemical properties for further applications. In this study, we developed epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) cross-linked collagen hydrogels (EC hydrogels) to realize physicochemical improvements, basing on the interaction mechanism between collagen and EGCG. The integrity of collagen framework with slight secondary structure change in the presence of EGCG was confirmed. The stronger stability of collagen fibrils was proved by slower swelling ratio, declined enzymatic degradation, improved thermal analysis and mechanical test due to EGCG modification. To illustrate the potential mechanism between collagen and EGCG, molecular docking was used to identify both covalent (CN bond, between lysine of collagen and C2-ring B of EGCG) and non-covalent bonds (hydrogen bond and hydrophobic interaction) within in EC hydrogel. Taken together, this work would offer some insights into the further study about the interaction between EGCG and collagen.In this study, the effect of ultrasonic frequency and power on the inactivation of soy trypsin inhibitors (TIs) was investigated to explore the ultrasound-induced inactivation mechanism. It was observed that 20 kHz and 355 kHz ultrasound have better inactivation efficiency than 1056 kHz. First-order rate constants for the inactivation process were obtained, which increased with increasing ultrasonic power at both 20 kHz and 355 kHz. For 20 kHz ultrasound, the formation of TI aggregates resulting from the physical effects of acoustic cavitation decreased the interactions between the active sites of TIs and trypsin, thus reducing the TI activity. The complex process of converting proliferative basal keratinocytes into corneocytes relies on programmed changes in the activity of many well-established genes. Much remains however to be investigated about this process, e.g. in conjunction with epidermal barrier defects due to genetic errors as in ichthyosis. To this end, we re-analyzed two sets of microarray-data comparing altered gene expression in differentiated vs. proliferating keratinocytes and in the skin of patients with autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI) vs. healthy controls, respectively. We thus identified 24 genes to be upregulated in both sets of array and not previously associated with keratinocyte differentiation. To date, the specific role of white matter abnormalities related to tinnitus reaches no consensus in the literature. The goal of this study was to explore the structural connectivity related to tinnitus percept per se, thus focusing on a specific population presenting chronic non-bothersome tinnitus of similar etiology (noise induced) without co-morbidities. We acquired diffusion-weighted images with high angular resolution in a homogeneous group of mildly impacted tinnitus participants (n = 19) and their matched controls (n = 19). We focused the study on two subsets of fiber bundles of interest on one hand, we extracted the acoustic radiation and further included any intersecting fiber bundles; on the other hand, we explored the tracts related to the limbic system. We modeled the diffusion signal using constrained spherical deconvolution. We conducted a deep-leFD but were with FA. Furthermore, significant correlations with hearing loss were found in the left hemisphere in the inferior longitudinal fasciculus and in the fronto-pontine tract. No additional correlation was found with tinnitus duration nor with tinnitus handicap, as reflected by THI scores. The regions that displayed tinnitus related increased AFD also displayed increased FA. The isthmus of the UF and IFO in the right hemisphere appear to be involved with a number of neuropsychiatric and traumatic disorders confirming the involvement of the limbic system even in chronic non-bothersome tinnitus subjects, potentially suggesting a common pathway between these pathologies. White matter changes underneath the superior parietal cortex found here in tinnitus participants supports the implication of an auditory-somatosensory pathway in tinnitus perception.Crash severity model is a classical topic in road safety research. The multinomial logit (MNL) model, as a basic discrete outcome method, is widely applied to measure the association between crash severity and possible risk factors. However, the MNL model has several assumptions and properties that are possibly not consistent with the actual crash mechanism, and therefore with the association measure for crash severity. One significant attribute is the variation in drivers' safety perception. Risk-taking drivers tends to drive at a higher speed, which increases the likelihood of severe crashes. However, the variations in speed and other driving performance lead to the error in the utility function more profound. This violates the assumption of identical error distributions between different crash severity outcomes. In this paper, we propose a multinomial multiplicative (MNM) model, as an alternative for crash severity model. There are two possible formulations for the proposed MNM model (1) Weibull and (2) Freter estimates are indicative to impact factors on crash severity as well as the design and implementation of policies. This justified the use of MMNM model as an alternative for crash severity model in practice. This is the first application of MMNM model in the traffic safety literature, it is worth exploring the application of other advanced multiplicative models for safety analysis in the future.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ethanol ablation in the treatment of benign head and neck cystic lesions.

A total of 25 patients who received ethanol ablation (EA) of head and neck cystic lesions by an otolaryngologist at a single institution between October 2017 and October 2020 were identified. Patient demographics, clinical characteristics, treatment details, and treatment outcomes at follow up visits were obtained by retrospective review of electronic medical records.

25 patients who underwent ethanol ablation of head and neck cystic lesions were included, with a mean age of 49.1years old (Interquartile range (IQR),32.5-65.5years) and 12 males (47.0%). The most common cysts treated with EA were thyroglossal duct cysts (n=8, 32.0%) and lymphoepithelial parotid cysts (n=7, 28.0%). The mean volume prior to treatment was 10.57mL (IQR, 1.58-8.81mL). Mean volume following EA was 1.30mL (range, 0.10-0.97mL) with 74.40% cyst reduction by volume (IQR, 48.56-96.29%) (p=0.002). The mean time to the last follow-up was 5months (range, 3-6months). One patient received surgery despite treatment success to obtain a definitive diagnosis of the mass. No other patients received further surgical management. The treatment success of EA, as defined by >70% volume reduction or the resolution of symptoms, was 92.0%. All patients were satisfied with the outcome and had no reported complications.

EA is an effective and safe alternative to surgery for the treatment of head and neck cystic lesions that can be performed in an outpatient setting by an otolaryngologist.
