Therapy-related leukemia is a well-recognized clinical syndrome. Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) is a modern therapeutic approach using radionuclide combined with somatostatin analog peptide for inoperable or metastatic neuroendocrine tumors.

Hematologic toxicities including late-onset myeloid neoplasms have been reported after PRRT; however, therapy-related chronic myeloid leukemia (TR-CML) following PRRT is a relatively rare entity.

We present a 64-year-old male who received PRRT for pancreas neuroendocrine tumor and then developed TR-CML 60 months after the initiation of PRRT. The patient responded well to imatinib therapy.

Patients with TR-CML generally have similar tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses and outcomes when compared to de novo cases.

The physicians should be aware of the short- and long-term hematologic toxicities of PRRT including TR-CML, and careful monitoring is mandatory in this group of patients.

To date, eight patients carrying biallelic BRF1 variants have been reported. Here, we describe two siblings with congenital microcephaly and corpus callosum hypoplasia, pre and postnatal growth retardation, congenital heart defect and severe global developmental delay. We also detected additional findings not previously reported in this syndrome, including bilateral sensorineural hearing impairment and inner ear malformation. Whole exome sequencing identified a novel homozygous missense variant (c.654G>C, p.[Trp218Cys]) in BRF1, predicted to affect the protein structure. Mdivi-1 concentration Expression assessment showed extremely low BRF1 protein expression caused by the identified variant, supporting its causal involvement. The description of new patients with cerebellofaciodental syndrome is essential to better delineate the phenotypic and genotypic spectrum of the disease.
Adherence to medication is important in older patients with non-communicable diseases, and there is a need to investigate various interventions to enhance adherence in our Indian setting. This pilot randomized controlled trial aimed at testing the effectiveness of systematic education and behavioral intervention in enhancing medication adherence among older adults.

It was a single center, open label, parallel arm, randomized controlled trial carried out among older (age >60 years) inpatients of general medicine wards diagnosed with select non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia and coronary artery disease. Gait impairment is poorly characterized in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), despite increasing evidence of extrapyramidal and cerebellar dysfunction. Gait impairment adds to the considerable motor disability of ALS patients and requires targeted multidisciplinary interventions.

To assess gait imagery-specific networks and functional adaptation in ALS.

Seventeen ALS patients with lower motor neuron predominant (LMNp) disability, 14 patients with upper motor neurons predominant (UMNp) disease, and 14 healthy controls were included.

Fission yeast cells, however, rely partially on respiration for rapid proliferation under fermentative conditions. Here, we determined the limiting factors that require respiratory function during fermentation. When inhibiting the electron transport chain, supplementation with arginine was necessary and sufficient to restore rapid proliferation. Accordingly, a systematic screen for mutants growing poorly without arginine identified mutants defective in mitochondrial oxidative metabolism. Genetic or pharmacological inhibition of respiration triggered a drop in intracellular levels of arginine and amino acids derived from the Krebs cycle metabolite alpha-ketoglutarate glutamine, lysine and glutamic acid. Conversion of arginine into these amino acids was required for rapid proliferation when blocking the respiratory chain. The respiratory block triggered an immediate gene expression response diagnostic of TOR inhibition, which was muted by arginine supplementation or without the AMPK-activating kinase Ssp1. The TOR-controlled proteins featured biased composition of amino acids reflecting their shortage after respiratory inhibition. We conclude that respiration supports rapid proliferation in fermenting fission yeast cells by boosting the supply of Krebs cycle-derived amino acids.
