TF and BCF values of the HMs were higher in Scariola orientalis than those of Stachys inflata, especially for Cr showing potentially higher risk to enter the food chain. The results showed that HM concentration in the soil as well as their accumulation by plants were correlated with the simulated PM deposition and not with linear distance from the factory.Despite all its advantages and potential, cross-linking enzyme aggregate (CLEA) technology is still not applied at an industrial scale for enzyme insolubilization for bioremediation purposes. In this study, the enzyme polymer engineered structure (EPES) method was used to enhance CLEA stability and reuse. A crude laccase from Trametes hirsuta was successfully insolubilized to form EPES-CLEAs. The polymeric network provided excellent stability (> 90%) to CLEAs after a 24-h incubation in a non-buffered municipal wastewater effluent (WW), and the biocatalysts were recycled using a centrifugation process. While CLEAs activity dropped to 17%, EPES-CLEAs showed a laccase activity retention of 67% after five cycles of 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) oxidation. After 8 h of treatment in WW, the EPES-CLEAs were equally as effective in removing cannabidiol (CBD) as the free-LAC (~ 37%). This research demonstrates that the EPES method is a promising alternative for CLEA stabilization and reuse in environmental conditions. The development of cyanobacterial blooms can have adverse effects on water bodies and may produce cyanotoxins. Several physical and chemical methods have been applied to remove cyanotoxins, but they have been significantly challenged due to extensive energy footprint and over-used chemicals, which limits practical application on a large scale. Selective removal has been regarded as the most promising approach recently for the elimination of prevalent and major bloom-forming cyanotoxins (e.g., microcystins and cylindrospermopsin) as natural organic matters and radical scavengers are ineluctably present in real scenarios. This paper reviews current advancements in research on selective oxidation and adsorption of cyanotoxins. Its goal is to provide comprehensive information on the treatment mechanism and the process feasibility involved in the cyanotoxin removal from real-world waters. Moreover, perspectives of cyanotoxin control and in situ selective elimination approaches are also reviewed. It is expected that the information gathered and discussed in this review can provide a useful and novel reference and direction for future pilot-scale applications. As a class of synthetic sulfur drugs, sulfonamides (SAs) have been used to treat diseases and promote organism growth. Different concentrations of SAs have been detected in the water environment, which has threatened the ecological environment. In this study, the contamination of 9 SAs in water, sediments, and 8 fish species from the Hangbu-Fengle River, China, were analyzed using UPLC-MS/MS. The total SA concentrations in surface water, sediments, and fish were ND-5.064 ng/L, ND-5.052 ng/g dry weight (d.w.), and ND-1.42 ng/g wet weight (w.w.), respectively. The major compounds were sulfadiazine (SDZ), sulfamerazine (SMZ), and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in water and fish. The SA levels of in fish from different habitat preferences revealed a spatial difference, with the order of demersal species > pelagic species. Moreover, the SA concentrations were affected by trophic guilds, indicating their decrease in the order of piscivorous fish > omnivorous fish > planktivorous fish > herbivorous fish. The obtained bioaccumulation factors showed that SMZ and SMX have strong bioenrichments in Ophiocephalus argus Cantor and Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. MRT67307 IKK inhibitor The risk assessment indicated that SAs did not pose significant health threats to the organisms. This research is the first report of SA contamination in the Hangbu-Fenle River, which can provide an important scientific basis for their pollution prevention and ecological risk assessment in the aquatic environment.
To assess the proportion of women with gestational diabetes (GDM) by performing postpartum Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) and to identify GDM phenotypes at high-risk of postpartum dysglycemia (PPD).

Observational, retrospective, multicenter study involving consecutive GDM women. Recursive partitioning (RECPAM) analysis was used to identify distinct and homogeneous subgroups of women at different PPD risk.

From a sample of 2,736 women, OGTT was performed in 941 (34.4%) women, of whom 217 (23.0%) developed PPD. Insulin-treated women having family history of diabetes represented the subgroup with the highest PPD risk (OR 5.57, 95% CI 3.60-8.63) compared to the reference class (women on diet with pre-pregnancy BMI <  = 28.1kg/m
). Insulin-treated women without family diabetes history and women on diet with pre-pregnancy BMI > 28.1kg/m
showed a two-fold PPD risk. Previous GDM and socioeconomic status represent additional predictors. Fasting more than post-prandial glycemia plays a predictive role, with values of 81-87mg/dl (4.5-4.8mmol/l) (lower than the current diagnostic GDM threshold) being associated with PPD risk.

Increasing compliance to postpartum OGTT to prevent/delay PPD is a priority. Easily available characteristics identify subgroups of women more likely to benefit from preventive strategies. Fasting BG values during pregnancy lower than those usually considered deserve attention.

To assess platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) with ascorbic acid (AA) versus PRF in intra-osseous defects of stage-III periodontitis patients.

Twenty stage-III/grade C periodontitis patients, with ≥ 3 mm intra-osseous defects, were randomized into test (open flap debridement (OFD)+AA/PRF; n = 10) and control (OFD+PRF; n = 10). Clinical attachment level (CAL; primary outcome), probing pocket depth (PPD), gingival recession depth (RD), full-mouth bleeding scores (FMBS), full-mouth plaque scores (FMPS), radiographic linear defect depth (RLDD) and radiographic defect bone density (RDBD) (secondary-outcomes) were examined at baseline, 3 and 6 months post-surgically.

OFD+AA/PRF and OFD+PRF demonstrated significant intragroup CAL gain and PPD reduction at 3 and 6 months (p < 0.001). OFD+AA/PRF and OFD+PRF showed no differences regarding FMBS or FMPS (p > 0.05). OFD+AA/PRF demonstrated significant RD reduction of 0.90 ± 0.50 mm and 0.80 ± 0.71 mm at 3 and 6 months, while OFD+PRF showed RD reduction of 0.10 ± 0.77 mm at 3 months, with an RD-increase of 0.
