The role of iron biomarkers and iron intake in the susceptibility to lung cancer is unclear. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis, to assess the relationship between iron levels in the body or iron intake and the risk of lung cancer.

This review is registered with PROSPERO (number CRD 42020199776). PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase and Cochrane were used to search for studies assessing the relationship between iron and lung cancer, up to July 15, 2021. Qualitative and quantitative analysis was carried out to determine if there was a correlation between iron biomarkers/intakes and the risk of lung cancer.

Twenty articles were included. Pooled analyses demonstrated that serum ferritin concentrations and transferrin saturation (TSAT) were significantly higher in patients with lung cancer than in healthy controls (ferritin standardized mean differences [SMD], 0.235, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.129, 0.341, I
=32.1 %; TSAT SMD, 0.07, 95 % CI, 0.018, 0.121, I
=0 %). In contrast, serum transferrin concentrations were significantly lower in patients with lung cancer than in healthy controls (SMD, -0.591, 95 % CI, -1.18, -0.003, I
=87.7 %). No significant effects of serum iron, lung tissue iron, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) ferritin, or iron intake (total iron, dietary iron, heme iron, or non-heme iron) were found on lung cancer incidence.

The neonatal antecedents of impaired behavioural development are unknown. 43 infants with CHD underwent presurgical brain diffusion-weighted MRI [postmenstrual age at scan median (IQR) = 39.29 (38.71-39.71) weeks] and a follow-up assessment at median age of 22.1 (IQR 22.0-22.7) months in which parents reported internalizing and externalizing problem scores on the Child Behaviour Checklist. We constructed structural brain networks from diffusion-weighted MRI and calculated edge-wise structural connectivity as well as global and local brain network features. We also calculated presurgical cerebral oxygen delivery, and extracted perioperative variables, socioeconomic status at birth and a measure of cognitively stimulating parenting. Lower degree in the right inferior frontal gyrus (partial ρ = -0.687, p less then 0.001) and reduced connectivity in a frontal-limbic sub-network including the right inferior frontal gyrus were associated with higher externalizing problem scores. Externalizing problem scores were unrelated to neonatal clinical course or home environment. However, higher internalizing problem scores were associated with earlier surgery in the neonatal period (partial ρ = -0.538, p = 0.014). Our results highlight the importance of frontal-limbic networks to the development of externalizing behaviours and provide new insights into early antecedents of behavioural impairments in CHD.Despite the importance of making sure that psychological interventions are safe, research including both positive and negative effects of novel internet-delivered support is scarce. The aim of our study was to explore whether, and in what way, a new intervention for adolescents distressed by a visible difference (YP Face IT; YPF, Norwegian version) led to positive and/or negative outcome changes. Participants were 79 adolescents (62.00% girls; Mage = 13.84, SD = 1.73), with a visible difference. All had access to the YPF programme and answered questionnaires assessing social anxiety and body esteem pre- and post-intervention. Analyses included calculations of statistical as well as clinically significant and reliable changes. Results showed that fewer participants reported clinical levels of social anxiety and low body esteem after access to YPF. Results also indicated that participants who had a positive pre- to post-intervention change had lower levels of perceived self-worth pre-intervention, and spent more time on the intervention than those with a negative pre- to post change. Three participants showed a clinically significant negative and reliable change in social anxiety or body esteem from pre- to post-intervention. However, based on an examination of these participants' characteristics, preliminary findings support the safety of YPF.This study assessed whether suicide attempts before 20 years of age were associated with medical morbidity later in life. We carried out a cohort study of 169,806 girls under age 20 years between 1989 and 2019 in Quebec, Canada. The cohort included 8086 girls admitted for suicide attempts, matched on age and year with 161,720 girls with no attempt. Outcomes included hospitalization for medical conditions, such as infection, allergic disorders, autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and death from nonpsychiatric causes during 31 years of follow-up. We computed hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the association of adolescent suicide attempt with these health outcomes using Cox regression models adjusted for preexisting mental illness, substance use disorders, and socioeconomic deprivation. Compared with matched controls, adolescent girls with suicide attempts had a greater risk of hospitalization for infection (HR 1.55, 95% CI 1.44-1.68), allergic disorders (HR 1.72, 95% CI 1.45-2.05), cardiovascular disease (HR 1.31, 95% CI 1.12-1.52), and mortality (HR 3.11, 95% CI 1.69-5.70). Associations were present regardless of the age at the time of the suicide attempt, but were stronger for girls with repeated attempts. Associations were also more pronounced within the first 5 years of the attempt, although suicide attempts remained strongly associated with mortality throughout the 31-year follow-up period. The findings suggest that adolescent girls with suicide attempts have an elevated risk of medical morbidity and mortality and may benefit from closer clinical management to prevent adverse health outcomes.The neural correlates of major depressive disorder (MDD) remain disputed. In the absence of reliable biological markers, the dysfunction and interaction of neural networks have been proposed as pathophysiological neural mechanisms in depression. Here, we examined the functional connectivity (FC) of brain networks. 51 healthy volunteers (mean age 33.57 ± 7.80) and 55 individuals diagnosed with MDD (mean age 33.89 ± 11.00) participated by performing a resting-state (rs) fMRI scan. Seed to voxel FC analyses were performed. Compared to healthy control (HC), MDD patients showed higher connectivity between the hippocampus and the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and lower connectivity between the insula and the ACC. The MDD group displayed lower connectivity between the inferior parietal lobule (IPL) and the superior frontal gyrus (SFG). The current data replicate previous findings regarding the cortico-limbic network (hippocampus - ACC connection) and the salience network (insula - ACC connection) and provide novel insight into altered rsFC in MDD, in particular involving the hippocampus - ACC and the insula - ACC connection. Furthermore, altered connectivity between the IPL and SFG indicates that the processing in higher cognitive processes such as attention and working memory is affected in MDD. These data further support dysfunctional neuronal networks as an interesting pathophysiological marker in depression.IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the deposition of galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1)-containing immune complexes in the kidneys. C176 Elevated serum levels of Gd-IgA1, the main autoantigen in IgAN, are associated with mucosal infections and poor renal outcome in IgAN patients, but little is known about the activation of IgA1-secreting cells overproducing this autoantigen. We found that in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), cytokine stimulation elevated Gd-IgA1 production in B cells from IgAN patients but not in those from healthy controls (p less then 0.01). These results were replicated in immortalized B cells derived from PBMCs of IgAN patients and healthy controls. Using single-cell transcriptomics, we identified subsets of IgA1-secreting cells from IgAN patients, but not from healthy controls, with decreased expression of C1GALT1 in response to cytokine stimulation. The C1GALT1-encoded glycosyltransferase is responsible for addition of galactose to IgA1 O-glycans, and its reduced activity is associated with elevated serum levels of Gd-IgA1. These newly identified subsets of IgA1-secreting cells with reduced C1GALT1 expression exhibited reduced expression of several genes related to cytokine-mediated signaling, including those encoding phosphatases, such as SOCS1. siRNA knock-down of SOCS1, and the related SOCS3, increased Gd-IgA1 production in cells derived from PBMCs of healthy controls, indicating a role of these regulators in abnormal cytokine signaling and Gd-IgA1 overproduction. These results revealed that specific subsets of IgA1-secreting cells may be responsible for autoantigen production in IgAN due to abnormal regulation of cytokine-mediated signaling, a process that may occur in inflammatory responses in IgAN patients.
Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) nephropathy (APSN) is a rare pattern with specific features resulting from microvascular lesions. The prognosis of APSN, outside of lupus nephritis, is unknown. The aim of this study was to describe the renal, vascular and overall outcomes of patients with APSN.

Retrospective multicenter study of patients with antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) associated with histological APSN lesions and no other nephropathy, identified through a national call for medical records. End-stage renal disease (ESRD)-free survival, thrombosis recurrence-free survival and overall survival were assessed.

Thirty patients were included (19 women) with a median age of 40 years (34-52 years). Fifteen patients had APS, 26/28 had lupus anticoagulant, and 15/26 had triple positivity for aPL. Median eGFR was 50 (31-60) mL/min/1.73m
. Glomerular thrombotic microangiopathy was found in 12/24 cases, fibrous intimal hyperplasia in 12/22 cases and focal cortical atrophy in 17/29 cases. Nineteen patients had moderate to severe interstitial fibrosis (>25%).
