Bacillus subtilis var. natto enhances the resistance associated with Caenorhabditis elegans in order to gram-positive microorganisms.
INTRODUCTION Overweight and obesity are increasing worldwide and are associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). The aim of this study was to examine the burden of CVD risk factors among normal weight, overweight, and obese subjects with hypertension, and to evaluate the effectiveness of switching to a single-pill combination (SPC) of perindopril arginine/indapamide for blood pressure (BP) control in overweight and obese subjects treated in routine clinical practice. METHODS FORSAGE was a 3-month, multicenter, observational, open-label study conducted in Russian patients with uncontrolled arterial hypertension under previous antihypertensive therapy. Subjects were switched to the full-dose perindopril arginine 10 mg/indapamide 2.5 mg SPC. BP was assessed at 2 weeks, 1 month, and 3 months, and serum creatinine and general health status at 3 months. The present post hoc analysis of the FORSAGE study results explored the effectiveness of perindopril arginine/indapamide SPC in patients wit of BMI. Achievement of target BP ( less then  140/90 mmHg) was good in all groups, but lower in obese subjects (70.9%) than in overweight subjects (78.1%) or those with a normal BMI (81.8%) (P  less then  0.0001 for both comparisons). CONCLUSIONS In subjects with uncontrolled BP on existing antihypertensive therapy, switching to perindopril arginine 10 mg/indapamide 2.5 mg was associated with statistically significant decreases in BP and higher rates of target BP achievement in all BMI groups, including more than 70% of overweight and obese patients. TRIAL REGISTRATION ISRCTN ID, ISRCTN14315146 (retrospectively registered 18/11/2019).The chromoblastomycosis is a subcutaneous mycosis with a high morbidity rate, Fonsecaea pedrosoi being the largest etiologic agent of this mycosis, usually confined to the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Rarely people get the cure, because the therapies shown to be deficient and few studies report the host-parasite relationship. Dendritic cells (DCs) are specialized in presenting antigens to naïve T lymphocytes inducing primary immune responses. Therefore, we propose to study the migratory capacity of DCs after infection with conidia of F. pedrosoi. The phenotype of DCs was evaluated using cells obtained from footpad and lymph nodes of BALB/c mice after 12, 24 and 72 h of infection. After 24 and 72 h of infection, we found a significant decrease in DCs in footpad and a significant increase in the lymph nodes after 72 h. The expression of surface markers and co-stimulatory molecules were reduced in cells obtained from footpad. To better assess the migratory capacity of DCs migration from footpad, CFSE-stained conidia were injected subcutaneously. We found that after 12 and 72 h, CD11c+ cells were increased in regional lymph nodes, leading us to believe that DCs (CD11c+) were able to phagocytic conidia present in footpad and migrated to regional lymph nodes.PURPOSE Plasma galectin-3 (pG3) regulates inflammation. B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), high-sensitivity Troponin I (hsTnI), and pG3 concentrations are elevated in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The associations of pG3 with hsTnI/BNP are unclear. We explored the relationship of hsTnI and BNP with pG3 in Asian CKD patients and healthy controls. METHODS We retrieved prospectively collected frozen plasma samples from 163 stable CKD patients and 105 healthy controls. BNP, hsTnI and pG3 were assayed. selleck inhibitor pG3 was assessed for associations with age, gender, ethnicity, blood pressures; height, weight, body mass index (BMI), previously diagnosed CKD, diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR); C-reactive protein, beta-trace protein, 24 h urine protein, serum albumin, uric acid and cystatin C. We created two models predicting pG3 using multiple linear regression. Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) was used for comparison. selleck inhibitor Significance was taken at P  less then  0.05. RESULTS CKD versus healthy participants mean BMI (28.2 vs. 24.9 kg/m2), median serum creatinine (159 vs. 69 µmol/L; 1.8 vs. 0.78 mg/dL), median eGFR (49 vs. 104 mL/min/1.73m2), median pG3 (29.4 vs. 15.4 ng/mL), median BNP (136 vs. 23 pg/mL), and median hsTnI (12.5 vs. 2.6 pg/mL). By univariate analysis, all variables are associated with pG3 except weight, gender and diagnosis of cerebrovascular or peripheral vascular diseases. A parsimonious model selected for hsTnI, BMI, serum albumin, cystatin C and eGFR (AIC = 77.6). CONCLUSION BNP and hsTnI are associated with pG3 in Asian CKD patients. hsTnI is a better predictor of pG3.Hemodialysis (HD) is one of the resource hungry medical interventions. A huge volume of water (about 500 L) and significant amounts of energy (over 7 kW) are used for a hemodialysis session; over a kilogram of waste is produced during this procedure. Thus, HD contributes to global warming while saving patients' lives. In this paper, we showed these crucial points in HD treatment and possible ways (e.g. modifications in dialysate flow rate) to reduce environmental impact maintaining therapy standards.PURPOSE Lower-extremity peripheral arterial disease (PAD) can predict the risk of subsequent cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) as a precursor of CVD has been proven to be independently associated with PAD. However, few data exist regarding the prediction value of kidney function for incident asymptomatic PAD in community-based populations. We aimed to investigate the predicting value of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) for incident asymptomatic PAD in a Chinese community-based population. A total of 3549 subjects without PAD and eGFR > 30 ml/min/1.73 m2 were included. METHODS PAD was defined by an ankle-brachial index (ABI) ≤ 0.9. Multivariate regression models were used to evaluate the associations. RESULTS Subjects were 56.69 ± 8.56 years old and 35.9% were males. After 2.36 years of follow-up, the incidence of asymptomatic PAD was 3.1%. The risk of incident PAD was graded related to the categories of eGFR. Compared to participants with normal kidney function, the multivariate adjusted OR [95% CI] for new PAD was 1.
