All rights reserved.Context With many health and social care schools offering Mindfulness Training (MT) there is a need for deeper understandings about pedagogical issues. Despite encouraging findings showing relationships between MT and student stress reduction, there is little qualitative synthesis of the literature about best principles for teaching and learning. Methods We report on a qualitative scoping review using the stages of Arksey and O'Malley's framework. The search identified papers from Medline, PsychINFO, CINAHL, SCOPUS over 15 years. The included papers were synthesized using the 3P Model of teaching and learning to explore current MT for Presage (teaching set-up), Process (teaching delivery) and Product (outcomes) factors. Results Sixteen articles were included in the review. There was a lack of consensus on definition for MT, facilitator training and the intervention used. The majority of studies involved small self-selected, mainly female cohorts. Of the set up (Presage factors) the majority of curriculum included MT for stress management and wellbeing, delivered in early years. Providing appropriate facilitators was a concern, while Process factors revealed enormous variability in delivery. Few studies had formal assessment although many had outcome evaluation measures (Product factors). Conclusions The qualitative review has highlighted additional benefits from MT aside from stress reduction. Most noticeably; student self-awareness, peer cohesion and group support, ability to attend to patients, as well as student insights into health and social education culture. Seeking presage, process and product factors has illuminated variability in how MT is being adapted within health and social care curriculum. There is an abundance of anti-inflammatory innate immune cells in lean white adipose tissue, including macrophages, eosinophils and group 2 innate lymphoid cells, which promote energy homeostasis and stimulate the development of thermogenic beige adipocytes. Despite potent inhibition of bone remodeling, findings in non-human primates suggest modeling-based bone formation (MBBF) may persist during denosumab treatment. This study assessed whether MBBF in the femoral neck (FN) is preserved in the context of inhibited remodeling in subjects receiving denosumab. This open-label study enrolled postmenopausal women with osteoporosis who had received ≥2 doses of denosumab (60 mg subcutaneously Q6M) per standard of care and were planning elective total hip replacement (THR) owing to osteoarthritis of the hip. Transverse sections of the FN were obtained after THR and analyzed histomorphometrically. MBBF, based on fluorochrome labeling and presence of smooth cement lines, was evaluated in cancellous, endocortical, and periosteal envelopes of the FN. All rights reserved.In the context of the ongoing debate on the mechanism of blood pressure (BP) regulation and pathophysiology of arterial hypertension ("renocentric" vs "neural" concepts), attention is focused on the putative regulatory role of changes in renal medullary blood flow (MBF). Experimental evidence is analysed with regard to the question whether an elevation of BP and renal perfusion pressure (RPP) is likely to increase MBF due to its impaired autoregulation. It is concluded that such increases have been clearly documented only in rats with extracellular fluid volume expansion. A possible translation of this finding to BP regulation in health and hypertension in humans may only be a matter of speculation. Within the "renocentric" theory, the key event leading to restoration of initial BP level is pressure natriuresis. Its relation to elevation of renal interstitial hydrostatic pressure and to the phenomenon of "wash-out" of renal medullary solutes by increasing MBF is discussed. We also assessed the validity of data supporting the putative mechanism of short-term restoration of elevated BP owing to the release of a vasodilator lipid (medullipin) by the medulla.
