Jael's syndrome, an intentional injury caused by a knife in the face or skull is a rare encounter in clinical and forensic practice, rarely involving an impacted knife. Clinical and radiographic diagnosis is essential to identify severity of injury and location of the retained knife. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported novel case of Jael's syndrome in Tanzania.
We present the case of a 31-year old man admitted at Muhimbili National Hospital following an impacted knife. The stab wound extended to the medial wall of left orbit and ended just before the optic foramen associated with vitreous hemorrhage and the retained knife caused superoposterior displacement of the globe. Multidisciplinary management was instituted including prompt evaluation, imaging and surgical removal of the knife under general anesthesia.
Plain skull X-ray revealed an extensive retained blade and computerized tomography (CT) showed the tip of the blade adjacent to the right styloid process with no neurovascular compromise. Initial concern was the left eye that was reported to be viable by ophthalmologists. Incredibly, the patient had no initial sequelae from such an extensive injury and had unremarkable recovery with no complications apart from the wound to left inferior rectus muscle that was conservatively managed. Simple withdrawal of the retained knife was successful.

Duodenal web is a rare pathology presenting infrequently in adults. Diagnosis is challenging and definitive management is commonly delayed. We present a case of a patient with a late diagnosis of duodenal web, who underwent laparotomy, intraoperative gastroscopy and surgical removal of the web performed by two general surgeons.
A 32-year-old woman with a previous diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome presented with a three day history of abdominal pain, nausea and anorexia, and a one day history of melaena and haematemesis. Investigations including a magnetic resonance enterography, barium swallow study and gastroscopy revealed the diagnosis. The patient underwent laparotomy and excision of duodenal web. Intraoperative gastroscopy assisted with identification of the web's anatomical location. A longitudinal duodenotomy was performed and this was closed in a transverse fashion using the Heineke-Mikulicz technique.
This case reports successful application of intraoperative gastroscopy during laparotomy and duodenotomy. Longitudinal duodenotomy with excision of the web and transverse closure of the duodenum appears to be the best approach. This technique may be utilised in appropriate situations to improve operative accuracy.

The Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) placement is associated with complications such as deep vein thrombosis, phlebitis, air embolism, infection, and superior vena cava syndrome. The aim of this study is to report pneumothorax as a rare complication of PICC insertion in a newborn.
The present case report is of a 32-week- and 4-day-old female fetus who was born at Mahzad Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Urmia, Iran. A PICC was placed for the infant. The infant underwent an antero-posterior chest X-ray, in which the presence of a complete white-out of the right hemithorax indicated pneumothorax and right lung collapse. The review of literature in this field showed that there were no reports of pneumothorax as a complication of PICC insertion in neonates.
Despite that the PICC placement seems to have many medical advantages in infants, it may cause life-threatening complications such as pneumothorax. In this newborn, the PICC placement was the main cause of pneumothorax and it can be stated that the catheter tip might cause trauma to the chest wall during the placement procedure which resulted in an air trap in the pleural cavity and eventually right lung collapse.
There are a couple of rare cases being reported to have complications of PICC placement in neonates, but none had associated pneumothorax and PICC placement in neonates. Therefore, innovative methods require to be used for meeting the nutrition and fluid requirements of the infants for a long time.

Competence evaluations in the clinical setting represent approximately 50% of the nurse training process. Factors, such as perceived learning environment and clinical nurse participation, may influence nursing student satisfaction during clinical placements.
To evaluate the relationship between the levels of nursing student satisfaction with clinical placements, the clinical learning environment, and the level of nurse tutor participation.
A cross-sectional study.
We included 61 nursing students and 45 clinical nurses from 35 primary care centres assigned to the Universitat Jaume I.
We assessed the overall level of student satisfaction with clinical placements, students' perception of the learning environment, tutors' level of participation, and socio-demographic variables.
We performed a descriptive analysis of the study sample, as well as correlation and simple linear regression analyses. Questionnaire results were analysed depending on the nature of the variables.
The students' perception of the learning environment was 4.39±0.48 points out of 5. link2 The overall satisfaction level was 8.89±1.22 points out of 10. Tutor participation level in students learning was 3.91±0.58 points out of 5.

Herein, it is discovered that both Au NPs and GeO2 nanozymes have peroxidase-like activity, catalyzing colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to produce blue TMBox. Interestingly, compared with single Au NPs or GeO2 nanozymes, the Au NPs/GeO2 nanozymes show stronger peroxidase-like activity, and significantly ameliorated SERS signal of TMBox. The mentioned two enhancements are ascribed to a positive synergistic function of Au NPs/GeO2 nanozymes. The real potent application of the developed biosensor was tested in human salivary samples of both smokers and non-smokers under different ages and obtained results shown good agreement with existing clinical methods.The solid state photophysical properties of the 3,3'-paraphenyl bis[6,8-dimethoxy-2H-chromen-2-one] symmetrical biscoumarin material were investigated by optical spectroscopy techniques and by theoretical calculations. Vibrational analysis using IR absorption and Raman scattering techniques carried out together with DFT theoretical calculations have confirmed the structure of this biscoumarin. The geometry optimization using different functionals reveal a nonplanar equilibrium structure with a dihedral between the phenyl and the pyran rings of about 142°. The UV-Visible absorption measurements and the TDDFT simulation show that this biscoumarin is characterized by a bicomponent feature resulting from ππ* electronic transitions and Intramolecular Charge Transfer (ICT). Solid state photoluminescence showed a bright blue-green emission at 506 nm with a large stokes shift estimated at 146 nm, and the temperature dependence study of this emission reveals two thermal evolution regimes. Finally, these good optical properties, as well as the stability of the emission, make this biscoumarin dye of potential interest for optoelectronic applications.The feasibility analysis of fluorescence hyperspectral imaging technology was studied for the detection of lead content in lettuce leaves. Further, Monte Carlo optimized wavelet transform stacked auto-encoders (WT-MC-SAE) was proposed for dimensionality reduction and depth feature extraction of fluorescence spectral data. The fluorescence hyperspectral images of 2800 lettuce leaf samples were selected and the whole lettuce leaf was used as the region of interest (ROI) to extract the fluorescence spectrum. Five different pre-processing algorithms were used to pre-process the original ROI spectral data including standard normalized variable (SNV), first derivative (1st Der), second derivative (2ndDer), third derivative (3rd Der) and fourth derivative (4th Der). Moreover, wavelet transform stacked auto-encoders (WT-SAE) and WT-MC-SAE were used for data dimensionality reduction, and support vector machine regression (SVR) was used for modeling analysis.
