The present study was aimed to evaluate the neuropsychological results and the functionality of the corpus callosum in transferring visual, auditory and tactile information between the two hemispheres in a group of patients who were treated using the transcallosal approach. The study evaluated the neuropsychological status of five selected patients presenting low-grade lesions of lateral ventricles that had not previously undergone surgical treatments and that did not receive radiotherapy and chemotherapy. All patients were administered an extensive neuropsychological testing postoperatively and the interhemispheric transfer of visual, auditory and tactile information was also evaluated. Two patients were tested preoperatively. Incisions of 2.4 cm maximum of the corpus callosum length were operated. The postoperative cognitive profile was normal. In some patients, a postoperative subnormal performance in memory functions was found but it cannot be attributable to the surgical approach given that it was altered even pre-surgically. Small incisions of the corpus callosum preserved the integrity of this anatomical structure in transferring lateralized information between the two hemispheres. The transcallosal approach is a safe surgical route to lateral ventricles lesions and the neuropsychological evaluation of these cases could give new insights in the comprehension of corpus callosum functions.Background The usefulness of adapted small-side games (SSGs) in improving cardiac function in subjects with T2DM is still debated. Here we evaluated the effects of 18weeks Indoor Muscular Activation training (6 wks; IMA) followed by adapted SSGs football training (12wks) on cardiac function, muscular fitness, Body Composition and adiponectin expression in sedentary T2DM volunteers. Methods 6 T2DM patients underwent IMA protocol of 6 wks, 2/wk followed by 12 wks SSGs (5vs5; once a wk) training. Glucose, lipid profile and serum homocysteine concentration, Body Composition (BC), bone mineral density (DEXA), were determined at baseline and after 18wks (IMA+SSGs). VO2max and muscular fitness were recorded at baseline and after IMA (6wks) and SSGs (12 wks), respectively. Results No significant differences were found for VO2max and muscular fitness after 6wks of IMA. After 18wks (6 wks IMA+ 12 wks SSGs) of training, significant improvements were found in the following parameters work capacity, VO2peack, Ventilation (VEpeack), breathing reserve consumption and oxygen uptake efficiency (OUES) (p less then 0.05); leg fitness (p less then 0.05), BC (p less then 0.05), vertebral column T-score (p less then 0.01) and adiponectin (total and High Molecular Weight, HMW; p less then 0.05). Compared to baseline, a reduction in serum homocystein (Hcy) occurred after 18 wks of training (p less then 0.05). Conclusions We evidenced that weekly adapted SSGs friendly football matches for 12 weeks improve cardiorespiratory capacity and the expression of independent markers associated with cardiovascular risk in T2DM patients, suggesting an overall reduced CVD-risk in these patients. These preliminary data encourage us to test the efficacy of this type of exercise in a larger population.Background Radiomic features are increasingly utilized to evaluate tumor heterogeneity in PET imaging but to date its role has not been investigated for Cho-PET in prostate cancer. The potential application of radiomics features analysis using a machine-learning radiomics algorithm was evaluated to select 18F-Cho PET/CT imaging features to predict disease progression in PCa. Methods We retrospectively analyzed high-risk PCa patients who underwent restaging 18F-Cho PET/CT from November 2013 to May 2018. 18F-Cho PET/CT studies and related structures containing volumetric segmentations were imported in the "CGITA" toolbox to extract imaging features from each lesion. A Machine-learning model has been adapted using NCA for feature selection, while DA was used as a method for feature classification and performance analysis. Results 106 imaging features were extracted for 46 lesions for a total of 4876 features analyzed. No significant differences between the training and validating sets in terms of age, sex, PSA values, lesion location and size (p > 0.05) were demonstrated by the machine-learning model. Thirteen features were able to discriminate FU disease status after NCA selection. Best performance in DA classification was obtained using the combination of the 13 selected features (sensitivity 74%, specificity 58% and accuracy 66%) compared to the use of all features (sensitivity 40%, specificity 52%, and accuracy 51%). Per-site performance of the 13 selected features in DA classification were as follow T= sensitivity 63%, specificity 83%, accuracy 71%; N= sensitivity 87%, specificity 91% of and accuracy 90%; bone-M= sensitivity 33%, specificity 77% and accuracy 66%. Conclusions An artificial intelligence model demonstrated to be feasible and able to select a panel of 18F-Cho PET/CT features with valuable association with PCa patients' outcome.Background Vascular calcification is an established feature of atherosclerosis process. The sodium/phosphate transporter PiT-1 acts as a biosensor in vascular calcification of VSMCs. [99mTc]-Pentavalent dimercaptosuccinic acid (99mTc-(V)-DMSA) was mediated by PiT-1 transporter in tumoral cells and we propose its evaluation in a vascular calcification in vitro model. The aim of this study was to determine if 99mTc-(V)-DMSA can follow the vascular calcification process in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) based on PiT-1 expression. Methods From a rat aortic VSMC cell line (A7r5), we set up a model of calcification within 7 days using a calcifying medium containing a high inorganic phosphate concentration. Phosphocalcic deposits were monitored with Alizarin red and Von Kossa staining and with phase contrast microscopy. PiT-1 expression was evaluated with an immunofluorescence assay and osteopontin expression, with whole cell ELISA assay. 99mTc-(V)-DMSA uptake was measured in control and calcifying conditions and compared with optical microscopy evaluation. Results Under hyperphosphatemia conditions, the VSMC cells progressively overexpressed osteopontin protein, PiT-1 transporter, and synthetized mineralized matrix with phosphocalcic deposition. 99mTc-(V)-DMSA uptake was to 2.8+/-2.08%DA/mg-protein in control cells and 42+/-24%DA/mg-protein in calcified cells (p less then 0,001). PiT-1 inhibition with phosphonoformic acid completely reverse the calcium deposition as well as the 99mTc-(V)- DMSA uptake. These results demonstrated that 99mTc-(V)-DMSA in vitro uptake is mediated by PiT-1 transporter and follow the VSMC calcification process. Conclusions These preliminary in vitro results showed 99mTc-(V)-DMSA uptake follow the phospho-calcic deposition mediated by PiT-1 transporter. This radiotracer may have some potential to detect changes of VSMC metabolism occurring in the atherosclerosis process.The COVID-19 virus has spread rapidly around the world and there are many patients in multiple countries. Great efforts have been made to find effective medications against the COVID-19. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of LINCOCIN® and AZITRO® in the treatment of COVID-19 associated pneumonia. A total of 24 hospitalized patients aged between 30-80 years who were admitted to the Tarsus Medical Park Hospital between February to March 2020 was included in the study. The patients were divided into LINCOCIN® and AZITRO® treatment groups. Bronchoalveolar-lavage PCR results were compared after treatment. The mean age was 58.4±15.4 years in the LINCOCIN® group and 59.1±16.6 years in the AZITRO® group. In the LINCOCIN® group, the rate of males was 66.7% and it was 58.3% in the AZITRO® group. The results show that pharmaceutical manufacturers generally seek regulatory approval for rare disorder drugs in Canada before New Zealand, and fewer rare disorder medicines receive regulatory approval in New Zealand. One reason for this difference might be New Zealand's smaller population. link2 However, another reason is likely the restrictive drug formulary in New Zealand. ANB exercise has beneficial effects on cardiac function in healthy and diseased people. The objectives of this study were to assess the effects of ANB exercise on cardiac physiology among healthy medical students. This was a prospective interventional study that was conducted in the Department of Physiology, Chittagong Medical College (CMC), Chattogram, Bangladesh, from July 2017 to June 2018. A total of 100 research participants (RPs) aged 18-20 years, Year-I medical students of CMC, were selected. A simple random sampling method was adopted. The selection was done after the inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. The age and body mass index (BMI) of the RPs were analogous in both the control and experimental groups. Cardiac parameters, like pulse and blood pressure (BP), were measured. link3 The initial baseline data were recorded for both groups and after 4 weeks. The research respondents of the experimental group performed ANB exercise for 4 weeks.
