Post-fabrication constitutionnel modifications that has been enhanced photodegradation task involving semiconductors@zeolite compounds towards noxious pollutants.
Two distinct electric field induced bleaching bands have been observed at around 480 nm and 750 nm, similar to the two photobleaching bands due to the dual nature of the excited states in lead halide perovskites.Correction for 'Colloidal synthesis of porous red phosphorus nanoparticles as a metal-free electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction' by Cheng-Ying Chan et al., Chem. (1S,3R)-RSL3 Commun., 2020, 56, 2937-2940, DOI .Considering ice-premelting on a quartz rock surface (i.e. silica) we calculate the Lifshitz excess pressures in a four layer system with rock-ice-water-air. Our calculations give excess pressures across (1) ice layer, (2) water layer, and (3) ice-water interface for different ice and water layer thicknesses. We analyse equilibrium conditions where the different excess pressures take zero value, stabilized in part by repulsive Lifshitz interactions. In contrast to previous investigations which considered varying thickness of only one layer (ice or water), here we present theory allowing for simultaneous variation of both layer thicknesses. For a given total thickness of ice and water, this allows multiple alternative equilibrium solutions. Consequently the final state of a system will depend on initial conditions and may explain variation in experimental measurements of the thicknesses of water and ice layers.Sex disaggregated data is an important for reducing health inequities in medicine. Global data suggests that is a sex difference in mortality from COVID-19. In this report, we explore plausible reasons for this sex difference including the contribution of underlying cardiovascular risk factors, high risk behaviors, immune response and biological differences between men and women. © 2020 Published by Elsevier on behalf of the American College of Cardiology Foundation. The term cytokine storm syndromes describes conditions characterised by a life-threatening, fulminant hypercytokinaemia with high mortality. Cytokine storm syndromes can be genetic or a secondary complication of autoimmune or autoinflammatory disorders, infections, and haematological malignancies. These syndromes represent a key area of interface between rheumatology and general medicine. Rheumatologists often lead in management, in view of their experience using intensive immunosuppressive regimens and managing cytokine storm syndromes in the context of rheumatic disorders or infection (known as secondary haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis or macrophage activation syndrome [sHLH/MAS]). Interleukin (IL)-1 is pivotal in hyperinflammation. Anakinra, a recombinant humanised IL-1 receptor antagonist, is licenced at a dose of 100 mg once daily by subcutaneous injection for rheumatoid arthritis, systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, adult-onset Still's disease, and cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes. In cyta, or neurological involvement. Cross-speciality management and collaboration, with the generation of international, multi-centre registries and biobanks, are needed to better understand the aetiopathogenesis and improve the poor prognosis of cytokine storm syndromes. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of an awake tracheal intubation in a suspected COVID-19-positive patient. Various modifications were put in place during the awake tracheal intubation and surgical tracheostomy procedures to minimise aerosol generation from the patient, such as avoiding high-flow nasal oxygen, establishing conscious sedation with remifentanil before commencing airway topicalisation and avoiding transtracheal local anaesthetic infiltration. A multidisciplinary team discussion before performing the case highlighted aspects of both the airway management and the surgical procedure where particular care and modifications are required. There is a lack of national and international guidance for awake tracheal intubation and tracheostomy in COVID-19 cases. This report nevertheless addresses the key procedural modifications required. © 2020 Association of Anaesthetists.Passiflora setacea is a wild species of passion fruit with interesting functional properties. Fruit seasonality demands conservation methods to enable its consumption throughout the year. We evaluated High Temperature Short Time (HTST) and Low Temperature Long Time (LTLT) binomials on physical, chemical, antioxidant and sensory characteristics of Passiflora setacea pulps. In natura (IN) and pasteurized pulps were analysed for DPPH, FRAP, ORAC, total phenolic content (TPC), vitamin C, bioactive amines, flavonoids, color, remaining enzymatic activity (REA), microbiological analyzes, sensory evaluation and physical stability. All binomials reached microbiological standards. link2 Binomials 82 °C/20 s and 82 °C/40 s were selected for providing higher total antioxidant activity (TAA), TPC and lower REA. The highest levels of antioxidant activity, flavonoids, vitamin C were kept by 82 °C/20 s, without difference from IN pulp. LTLT binomial showed higher retention of bioactive amines, but also higher REA. Sensory acceptance was not affected by the binomials but pasteurized-cooked flavor was more checked for 82 °C 40 s than IN pulp. © 2020 The Authors. In 2013, the senior author delivered the American Academy of Ophthalmology Robert N. Shaffer Lecture entitled "Glaucoma Changes-Reality Bites." This talk focused on describing the longitudinal structure-function relationships in glaucoma progression. The study was based on a 10-year longitudinal dataset created by calibrated measurements across multiple OCT generations with corresponding visual fields (VFs). The prior held observation was that functional damage follows structural damage. The lecture posited that structure and function change at similar times, but that current measurement technology limits our ability to detect functional abnormalities and change early in glaucoma, as well as to measure structural change late in the disease. The Shaffer lecture provided evidence that structure and function change concordantly and that any apparent discordance in the relationship was due to technologic limitations to measure glaucomatous change. Furthermore, we observed 5 longitudinal relationships of concordance and discordance that can exist with structure-function interactions. Concordance (1) structure-structure progression, (2) structure-function tipping point, (3) structural floor tipping point. Discordance (4) functional progression in a "stable" VF with structure-function correlation, (5) functional progression with "normal" structure. In this review article, we will review longitudinal glaucoma progression studies with long-term follow-up and discuss the clinical relevance of relationships of concordance and discordance that can exist with structure-function interactions. The susceptibility of CD4 T cells to human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) infection is regulated by glucose and glutamine metabolism, but the relative contributions of these nutrients to infection are not known. Here we show that glutaminolysis is the major pathway fuelling the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) in T-cell receptor-stimulated naïve, as well as memory CD4, subsets and is required for optimal HIV-1 infection. Under conditions of attenuated glutaminolysis, the α-ketoglutarate (α-KG) TCA rescues early steps in infection; exogenous α-KG promotes HIV-1 reverse transcription, rendering both naïve and memory cells more sensitive to infection. Blocking the glycolytic flux of pyruvate to lactate results in altered glucose carbon allocation to TCA and pentose phosphate pathway intermediates, an increase in OXPHOS and augmented HIV-1 reverse transcription. Moreover, HIV-1 infection is significantly higher in CD4 T cells selected on the basis of high mitochondrial biomass and OXPHOS activity. Therefore, the OXPHOS/aerobic glycolysis balance is a major regulator of HIV-1 infection in CD4 T lymphocytes.Recently, a controversy has erupted regarding the use of statistical significance tests and the associated P values. Prominent academic statisticians have recommended that the use of statistical tests be discouraged or not used at all. This has naturally led to a lot of confusion among research investigators about the support in the academic statistical community for statistical methods in general. In fact, the controversy surrounding the use of P values has a long history. Critics of P values argue that their use encourages bad scientific practice, leading to the publication of far more false-positive and false-negative findings than the methodology would imply. The thesis of this commentary is that the problem is really human nature, the natural proclivity of scientists to believe their own theories and present data in the most favorable light. This is strongly encouraged by a celebrity culture that is fueled by academic institutions, the scientific journals, and the media. The importance of the truth-seeking tradition of the scientific method needs to be reinforced, and this is being helped by current initiatives to improve transparency in science and to encourage reproducible and replicable research. Statistical testing, used correctly, has an important and valuable place in the scientific tradition. link3 © The Author(s) 2020. Published by Oxford University Press. Background Because of the mixed reports from smaller studies, we examined associations of race with mammographic breast density and evaluated racial differences in the determinants of breast density. Methods Participants included 37 839 women (23 166 non-Hispanic white and 14 673 African American) receiving screening mammograms at the Joanne Knight Breast Health Center at Washington University School of Medicine from June 2010 to December 2015. Mammographic breast density was assessed using the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (5th edition). To determine the association of race and participant characteristics with mammographic breast density, we used multivariable polytomous logistic regression models (reference group almost entirely fatty). Results African American women had increased odds of extremely dense (adjusted odds ratio = 1.31, 95% confidence interval = 1.13 to 1.52) and reduced odds of heterogeneously dense breasts (adjusted odds ratio = 0.91, 95% confidence interval = 0.84 to 0.99) compareblished by Oxford University Press. Background It is unclear which radiotherapy technique and dose fractionation scheme is most effective in decreasing the risk of prostate cancer death. Methods We conducted a population-based cohort study among 15 164 men in the Prostate Cancer database Sweden (version 4.0) treated with primary radical radiotherapy for prostate cancer in Sweden from 1998 to 2016. We calculated hazard ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of the association between the following exposure groups and outcome conventionally fractionated external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) to 78 Gy (39 × 2 Gy), EBRT combined with high dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR-BT) (25 × 2 Gy + 2 × 10 Gy), conventionally fractionated EBRT to 70 Gy (35 × 2 Gy), and moderately hypofractionated (M-HF) dose-escalated EBRT (29 × 2.5 Gy or 22 × 3 Gy). Results Of the men, 7296 received conventionally fractionated EBRT to 78 Gy, 4657 EBRT combined with HDR-BT, 1672 conventionally fractionated EBRT to 70 Gy, and 1539 M-HF EBRT. Using EBRT to 78 Gy as the reference, the multivariable hazard ratios (95% CIs) of prostate cancer death was 0.
