The approach of wastewater treatment using algae for eliminating nutrients and other pollutants from domestic wastewater is growing interest among the researchers. However, sustainable treatment of the wastewater is considered to be important in establishing more effective nutrient and pollutant reduction using algal systems. In comparison to the conventional method of remediation, there are opportunities to commercially viable businesses interest with phycoremediation, thus by achieving cost reductions and renewable bioenergy options. Phycoremediation is an intriguing stage for treating wastewater since it provides tertiary bio-treatment while producing potentially valuable biomass that may be used for a variety of applications. Furthermore, the phycoremediation provides the ability to remove heavy metals as well as harmful organic substances, without producing secondary contamination. In this review, the role of microalgae in treating different wastewaters and the process parameters affecting the treatment and future scope of research have been discussed. Though several algae are employed for wastewater treatment, species of the genera Chlamydomonas, Chlorella, and Scenedesmus are extensively utilized. Interestingly, there is a vast scope for employing algal species with high flocculation capacity and adsorption mechanisms for the elimination of microplastics. In addition, the algal biomass generated during phycoremediation has been found to possess high protein and lipid contents, promising their exploitation in biofuel, food and animal feed industries. With the emergence of disease-modifying therapies for Parkinson's disease, reliable longitudinal markers are needed to quantify pathology and demonstrate disease progression. We developed the A53T-AAV rat model of synucleinopathy by combining longitudinal measures over 12 weeks. We first characterized the progression of the motor and dopaminergic deficits. PolyDlysine Then, we monitored the disease progression using the [18F]FMT Positron Emission Tomography (PET) radiotracer. The nigral injection of A53T-AAV led to an increase in phosphorylated α-synuclein on S129, a progressive accumulation of α-synuclein aggregates, and a decrease of dopaminergic function associated with a deterioration of motor activity. The longitudinal monitoring of A53T-AAV rats with [18F]FMT PET showed a progressive reduction of the Kc outcome parameter in the caudate putamen from the lesioned side. Interestingly, the progressive reduction in the [18F]FMT PET signal correlated with defects in the stepping test. In conclusion, we established a progressive rat model of α-synuclein pathology which monitors the deficit longitudinally using both the [18F]FMT PET tracer and behavioral parameters, 2 features that have strong relevance for translational approaches.Platycodon grandiflorum (PG), as a well-known medicine food homology species, possess various pharmacological effects and health benefits. Aiming to facilitate in-depth and global characterization of the chemical compositions of PG, a profiling method based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with ion mobility quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC/IM-QTOF-MS) was conducted. Consequently, as many as 187 compounds were plausibly or unambiguously identified. Most importantly, phospholipids (PLs) were first observed and identified in PG. Due to their widely confirmed bioactivities, an analysis scheme was developed by hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography and electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry combined with the online Paternò-Büchi reaction (HILIC-PB-MS/MS). The fatty acyl chains and C=C locations of 180 PLs molecular species, which fell into four classes, were unprecedently characterized. This exposure strategy of multi-type constituents greatly enriches the chemical profiling of PG, and helps promoting the further development of therapeutic agents and nutraceutical products from PG.Contaminant Exposure Models (CEMs) were developed to predict population-level tissue contaminant concentrations in fishes by pairing sediment-bound contaminant concentrations (DDTs, PCBs) and fine-scale acoustic telemetry data from a habitat-associated species (Vermilion Rockfish, Sebastes miniatus), nomadic flatfish species (Hornyhead Turbot, Pleuronichthys verticalis), and nomadic benthic/midwater schooling species (White Croaker, Genyonemus lineatus) tagged near wastewater outfalls in southern California. Model results were compared to contaminant concentrations in tissue samples. The CEMs developed require further refinement before implementation into management efforts but may act as steppingstones to help shift primary monitoring methods away from the regular field collection of fish for tissue contaminant analyses and towards behavioral modeling and habitat mapping. We also developed Kernel Density Estimates that can be used by managers immediately to identify regions that contribute most to contaminant exposure in species of concern. Prioritizing remediation efforts in these areas are likely to be most effective at improving fish health.Gastric mesenchymal tumors are relatively rare, and their molecular pathogeneses are poorly understood, except for gastrointestinal stromal tumor, desmoid, and inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors. We report a case of a gastric mesenchymal tumor with prominent smooth muscle cell differentiation and an echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like 4-anaplastic lymphoma kinase (EML4-ALK) fusion. On gross section, the tumor was 26 mm at the largest diameter, well-circumscribed, and located in the submucosal and muscular layers of the stomach wall. Histologically, the tumor comprised intersecting fascicles of spindle cells, non-atypical nuclei, and highly eosinophilic cytoplasm. Myxoid changes were observed focally, but inflammatory infiltrates were only evident in limited areas. Immunochemical staining revealed that the tumor was positive for α-smooth muscle actin and desmin. Diffuse positive staining for h-caldesmon was observed throughout the tumor, which suggested smooth muscle cell differentiation. Intracytoplasmic staining for ALK protein was also observed, and fluorescence in situ hybridization using ALK break-apart probes showed split chromosomal signals. RNA-sequencing analysis identified EML4-ALK fusion transcripts. We concluded that the tumor was a gastric mesenchymal tumor with smooth muscle differentiation based on its distinct differential smooth muscle properties, such as highly eosinophilic cytoplasm and diffuse expression of h-caldesmon. Furthermore, activated ALK may underly the tumor's pathogenesis.
Recent observations indicate that cannabis use can result in cardiovascular complications including arrhythmias. We studied the relationship between cannabis use disorder (CUD) and arrhythmia hospitalization.

We conducted a retrospective analysis of the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (2010-2014). Patients (age 15-54) with a primary diagnosis for arrhythmia (N = 570,556) were compared with non-arrhythmia (N = 67,662,082) inpatients for odds ratio (OR) of CUD by the logistic regression model, adjusted for demographicsand comorbid risk factors.

The incidence of CUD in arrhythmia inpatients was 2.6%. Among cannabis users, the most prevalent arrhythmia was atrial fibrillation (42%), followed by other arrhythmias (24%) and atrial flutter (8%). Patients with CUD were younger (15-24 years, OR 4.23), male (OR 1.70), and African American (OR 2.70). CUD was associated with higher odds of arrhythmia hospitalization in the young population, 1.28 times in 15-24 years (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.229-1.346) and 1.52 ttential confounders including other substances. The fact that atrial fibrillation is the most prevalent arrhythmia is of special concern since it can result in stroke and other embolic events. Physicians need to familiarize themselves with cannabis abuse or dependence as a risk factor for arrhythmia.Electrophilic fluorophosphonium triflates bearing pyridyl (3[OTf]) or imidazolyl (4[OTf])-substituents act as intramolecular frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) and reversibly form 1  1 adducts with CO2 (5+ and 6+ ). An unusual and labile spirocyclic tetrahedral intermediate (72+ ) is observed in CO2 -pressurized (0.5-2.0 bar) solutions of cation 4+ at low temperatures, as demonstrated by variable-temperature NMR studies, which were confirmed crystallographically. In addition, cations 3+ and 4+ actively bind carbonyls, nitriles and acetylenes by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, as shown by selected examples.Nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (nMOFs) have recently been shown to provide better radiosensitization than solid nanoparticles (NPs) when excited with X-rays. Here, a Monte Carlo simulation of different radiosensitization effects by NPs and nMOFs using a lattice model consisting of 3D arrays of nanoscale secondary building units (SBUs) is reported. The simulation results reveal that lattices outperform solid NPs regardless of radiation sources or particle sizes via enhanced scatterings of photons and electrons within the lattices. Optimum dose enhancement can be achieved by tuning SBU size and inter-SBU distance.Fenestration transcatheter closure is widely considered to eliminate persistent right-to-left shunt after Fontan surgeries. Three consecutive children with stage III-palliated univentricular hearts recently underwent successful endovascular fenestration closure using 43 mm/Large Optimus-CVS™ that were implanted using the new Altosa-XL™ PTA balloon catheters (AndraTec GmbH). The procedure was fast with no complication and patients were discharged the following day with complete shunt closure. One-month follow-up confirmed excellent outcomes. This report aims to highlight and discuss the competitive advantages of these promising new materials in this particular intervention.Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common type of oral malignancy. Our study uses multipoint materials to explore the heterogeneity and metastasis mechanism of OSCC to find more accurate molecular markers and new therapeutic targets. By using whole-exome capture and sequencing and tumor evolution analysis, we found that most clone-driven mutations were located in the branches of tumor phylogenetic tree, such as COTL1, CASP8, and PROCR. Most clone-driven OSCC mutations occur mainly in tumor suppressor genes, including TP53, SFRP4, and NOTCH1. Our study on intratumor heterogeneity (ITH) and clonal evolution provides an important molecular basis for further understanding of OSCC occurrence and development and metastasis and provides potential targets for the treatment of this disease.
