Nanofiltration/reverse osmosis (NF/RO) is commonly used in groundwater treatment due to the high effectiveness and simple maintenance of these pressure driven membrane processes. In this research, a pilot-scale NF/RO system was used to desalinate a natural groundwater sample containing high Sr concentration (10.3 mg/L) and "old" groundwater organic matter (70.9 mg/L) from Esilalei in northern Tanzania to understand the removal of strontium by NF/RO. The impact of applied pressure (10-15 bar) and groundwater pH (3-12) on the membrane performance including permeate flux, strontium and total organic carbon (TOC) flux and removal was investigated. Increasing applied pressure was found to enhance the flux by increasing the driving force and enhance Sr and TOC removal by dilution effect (water flux higher than Sr passage). The alkaline pH caused severe flux decline likely due to membrane fouling and scaling, while it slightly enhanced Sr removal of RO membranes, but weakened the TOC removal. In contrast, acidic and neutral pH of groundwater enhanced TOC removal. These findings suggest that appropriately high applied pressure and acidic pH condition of groundwater are recommended to apply to the NF/RO membrane system in groundwater desalination to achieve better membrane performance. Background and objectives The efficacy and safety of ustekinumab have been proved in clinical trials. In daily clinical practice, knowing the factors that determine survival differences of biological drugs allows psoriasis treatment to be optimized as a function of patient characteristics. The main objectives of this work are to understand ustekinumab drug survival in patients diagnosed with plaque psoriasis in the Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias (HUCA Dermatology Department, and to identify the predictors of drug discontinuation. Materials and Methods A retrospective hospital-based study, including data from 148 patients who were receiving ustekinumab (Stelara®) between 1 February 2009 and 30 November 2019, were collected. Survival curves were approximated through the Kaplan-Meier estimator and compared using the log-rank test. Proportional hazard Cox regression models were used for multivariate analyses while both unadjusted and adjusted hazard ratios (HR) were used for summarizing the studied dil in plaque psoriasis patients. Ustekinumab survival is lower in patients with arthritis. In the era of polymers from renewable resources, polyesters derived from 2,5 furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) have received increasing attention due to their outstanding features. To commercialize them, it is necessary to synthesize high molecular weight polymers through efficient and simple methods. In this study, two furan-based polyesters, namely poly (propylene furanoate) (PPF) and poly(butylene furanoate) (PBF), were synthesized with the conventional two-step melt polycondensation, followed by solid-state polycondensation (SSP) conducted at different temperatures and reaction times. Molecular weight, structure and thermal properties were measured for all resultant polyesters. As expected, increasing SSP time and temperature results in polymers with increased intrinsic viscosity (IV), increased molecular weight and reduced carboxyl end-group content. Finally, those results were used to generate a simple mathematical model that prognosticates the time evolution of the materials' IV and end groups concentration during SSP.The Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) is an important marker of immune function, defined as the product of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet count (P). Higher baseline SII levels have been associated with improved survival in various types of cancers, including lung cancer. Data were obtained from PROCLAIM, a randomized phase III trial comparing two different chemotherapy regimens pemetrexed + cisplatin (PEM) vs. etoposide + cisplatin (ETO), in combination with radiotherapy (RT) for the treatment of stage III non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We aimed to determine if SII measured at the mid-treatment window for RT (weeks 3-4) is a significant predictor of survival, and if the effect of PEM vs. ETO differs by quartile (Q) level of SII. Hazard-ratios (HR) for survival were estimated using a proportional hazards model, accounting for the underlying correlated structure of the data. A total of 548 patients were included in our analysis. The median age at baseline was 59 years. Patients were followed for a median of 24 months. Adjusting for age, body mass index, sex, race, and chemotherapy regimen, SII was a significant mid-treatment predictor of both overall (adjusted HR (aHR) = 1.6, p less then 0.0001; OS) and progression-free (aHR = 1.3, p = 0.0072; PFS) survival. Among patients with mid-RT SII values above the median (6.8), those receiving PEM (vs. ETO) had superior OS (p = 0.0002) and PFS (p = 0.0002). Our secondary analysis suggests that SII is an informative mid-treatment marker of OS and PFS in locally advanced non-squamous NSCLC.The Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) has witnessed significant social and economic changes that may have influenced the diet of children and adolescents, and increased the risk for obesity and malnutrition in this age group. This review aims to characterize and assess food consumption patterns and nutrient intakes amongst school-aged children (5-10 years) and adolescents (10-19 years) in countries of the EMR. D-Lin-MC3-DMA compound library chemical Electronic databases (MedLine, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar) were searched for relevant articles published between 2005 and 2020; international organizations and governmental websites were also searched. Available studies documented low intakes of fruits, vegetables and fiber, inadequate consumption of water, milk and dairy products, coupled with high intakes of fat, saturated fat, and sugar sweetened beverages, as well as a frequent consumption of energy-dense, nutrient poor foods such as sweet and savory snacks. Micronutrient inadequacies were also observed, particularly for calcium, iron, zinc and vitamins A, D, C, and folate.
