Water stress is a current environmental menace mainly driven by over exploitation of aquifers, which is triggering poor water quality with high concentration of minerals in extracted groundwater. Particularly, silica is widespread in natural water supplies due to weathering processes of silicates occurring in contact with water, light, air, and other factors. However, due to groundwater over extraction the concentration of silica has increased during the last years in aquifer reservoirs from Aguascalientes State (México). In this context, it is very important to note that the removal of silica compounds from water is challenging and different methods can be used to avoid embedding problems in different industries. In the present work, the removal of reactive silica from synthetic solutions as well as from real wastewaters from an industrial anodizing process was studied using adsorption and chemical precipitation methods. Twelve commercial materials of different nature were used for adsorption tests, while sen of Fe with oxygen of silica species. Additionally, magnesium chloride was the best precipitating reagent for reactive silica achieving up to 87% removal. According to ANOVA analysis of Taguchi method, pH was the most influential factor during the precipitation of reactive silica with a variance value of 81.42, while values lower than 3 were obtained for the rest of parameters. Overall, the present work is reporting for the first time the removal of reactive silica from anodizing wastewaters with promising results that can be implemented at full scale for water reclamation, which may significantly contribute to manage water reservoir in the region sustainably.Deforestation and fires in the Amazon are serious problems affecting climate, and land use and land cover (LULC) changes. In recent decades, the Amazon biome area has suffered constant fires and deforestation, causing severe environmental problems that considerably impact the land surface temperature (LST) and hydrological cycle. The Amazon biome lost a large forest area during this period. Thus, this study aims to analyze the deforestation and burned areas in the Amazon from 2001 to 2020, considering their impacts on rainfall variability and LST. This study used methods and procedures based on Google Earth Engine for analysis (a) LULC evolution mapping, (b) vegetation cover change analysis using vegetation indices, (c) mapping of fires, (d) rainfall and LST analyses, and (e) analysis of climate influence and land cover on hydrological processes using the geographically weighted regression method. The results showed significant LULC changes and the main locations where fires occurred from 2001 to 2020. The years 2007 and 2010 had the most significant areas of fires in the Brazilian Amazon (233,401 km2 and 247,562 km2, respectively). The Pará and Mato Grosso states had the region's largest deforested areas (172,314 km2 and 144,128 km2, respectively). Deforestation accumulated in the 2016-2020 period is the greatest in the period analyzed (254,465 km2), 92% higher than in the 2005-2010 period and 82% higher than in the 2001-2005 period. The study also showed that deforested areas have been increasing in recent decades, and the precipitation decreased, while an increase is observed in the LST. It was also concluded that indigenous protection areas have suffered from anthropic actions.
Our objectives were to describe time intervals of EMS encounters for suspected stroke patients in North Carolina (NC) and evaluate differences in EMS time intervals by community socioeconomic status (SES) and rurality.

This cross-sectional study used statewide data on EMS encounters of suspected stroke in NC in 2019. Eligible patients were adults requiring EMS transport to a hospital following a 9-1-1 call for stroke-like symptoms. Incident street addresses were geocoded to census tracts and linked to American Community Survey SES data and to rural-urban commuting area (RUCA) codes. Pargyline price Community SES was defined as high, medium, or low based on tertiles of an SES index. Urban, suburban, and rural tracts were defined by RUCA codes 1, 2-6, and 7-10, respectively. Multivariable quantile regression was used to estimate how the median and 90th percentile of EMS time intervals varied by community SES and rurality, adjusting for each other; patient age, gender, and race/ethnicity; and incident characteristics.

We nse and scene times for stroke, transport times were significantly longer rural tracts and modestly shorter in low SES tracts, accounting for patient demographics. Further research is needed on the role of community socioeconomic deprivation and rurality in contributing to delays in prehospital stroke care.
While community-level factors were not strongly associated with EMS response and scene times for stroke, transport times were significantly longer rural tracts and modestly shorter in low SES tracts, accounting for patient demographics. Further research is needed on the role of community socioeconomic deprivation and rurality in contributing to delays in prehospital stroke care. The potential of chitosan nanoparticles (CHNPs) for improving the quality stability of pork patties under freeze-thaw (F-T) cycles was studied. Chitosan nanoparticles were successfully produced by the ionotropic gelation method. Pork patties were incorporated with 0%, 0.5% chitosan, 1% chitosan, 0.5% CHNPs, and 1% CHNPs and then subjected to repeated F-T cycles. Results showed that CHNPs were able to inhibit lipid and protein oxidation with a significant decrease in the lipid malondialdehyde and protein carbonyl formation in the patties after seven F-T cycles. Low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) results indicated that CHNPs effectively restrained water mobility of samples. In addition, CHNPs exhibited a distinguishable improvement in the textural properties and water holding capacity in the stored patties during F-T cycles. Thus, CHNPs could be used as a natural ingredient to protect frozen patties from quality degradation caused by temperature fluctuations.
To quantitatively evaluate the impact of a cardiac acquisition CT mode on motion artifacts in comparison to a conventional cine mode for dynamic musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging.

A rotating PMMA phantom with air-filled holes drilled at varying distances from the disk center corresponding to linear hole speeds of 0.75 cm/s, 2.0 cm/s, and 3.6 cm/s was designed. Dynamic scans were obtained in cardiac and cine modes while the phantom was rotating at 48°/s in the CT scanner. An automated workflow to compute the Jaccard distance (JD) was established to quantify degree of motion artifacts in the reconstructed phantom images. JD values between the cardiac and cine scan modes were compared using a paired sample t-test. In addition, three healthy volunteers were scanned with both modes during a cyclic flexion-extension motion of the knee and analysed using the proposed metric.

For all hole sizes and speeds, the cardiac scan mode had significantly lower (p-value <0.001) JD values. (0.39 [0.32-0.46]) i.e less motion artifacts in comparison to the cine mode (0.72 [0.68-0.76]). For both modes, a progressive increase in JD was also observed as the linear speed of the holes increased from 0.75 cm/s to 3.6 cm/s. The dynamic images of the three healthy volunteers showed less artifacts when scanned in cardiac mode compared to cine mode, and this was quantitatively confirmed by the JD values.

A cardiac scan mode could be used to study dynamic musculoskeletal phenomena especially of fast-moving joints since it significantly minimized motion artifacts.

To implement a single set-up monthly QA procedure for 9 different beam parameters at different gantry angles and evaluate its clinical implementation over a 12month period.

We developed a QA procedure using an array detector (PTW Octavius 1500XDR) embedded in a rotational unit (PTW Octavius 4D) at our proton facility. With a single set-up we can monitor field central axis position, field symmetry, field size, flatness, penumbrae, output, spot size, spot position and range at different gantry angles (AAPM TG 224). The set-up is irradiated with homogenous 2D fields with dynamic aperture and spot patterns at five gantry angles. A modular top is used to check the range consistency. Absolute γ analysis were performed to compare measured dose distributions to calculated dose. All other parameters are directly extracted from the measurements. Additionally, the sensitivity of the set-up to small changes in beam parameters were compared to the Lynx detector (IBA).

Over a 12month period, output, symmetry, and flatness were within±2%; FWHM, spot positions, penumbra widths, and central axis fields were within±1mm. Range differences were all within 1/2 of the energy spacing (±0.6MeV) relative to baseline. Most (2%, 2 mm) γ-analysis showed agreement scores higher than 90%. The sensitivity is comparable to the Lynx detector and measurement time is reduced by 40%.

The time-efficient monthly QA procedure that we developed can accurately be used to measure a large range of beam parameters at different gantry angles, within the TG 224 AAPM recommendations.

KN026 is a novel human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-targeted bispecific antibody that binds two distinct domains of HER2. We report the safety and efficacy results of the phase 2 trial in patients with advanced HER2-expressing gastric or gastroesophageal junction cancerwho failed from at least one prior line of standard treatment.

In this open-label, multicentre, phase 2 trial, eligible patients were enrolled in the high-level HER2 cohort or low-level HER2 cohort and assigned to receive KN026 10mg/kg (once a week), 20mg/kg (once every two weeks)or 30mg/kg (once every three weeks) intravenously. The primary end-points were the objective response rate (ORR) and duration of response assessed according to Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours (version 1.1).

Between 17th June2019and 23rd August2021, 45 patients were enrolled and received at least one dose of KN026, including 27 patients in the high-level HER2 cohort, 14 patients in the low-level HER2 cohortand four patients who had no HER2 expression. The ORR in the high-level HER2 cohort was 56% (95% confidence interval [CI] 35%-76%), with a durable response duration of 9.7 months (95% CI 4.2-not evaluable); while for the patients with low-level HER2, the ORR was 14% (95% CI 2%-43%). The most frequent≥grade 3 treatment-emergent adverse events were gastrointestinal disorders (five patients, 11%). No drug-related deaths were reported.

KN026 showed a favourable safety profile and promising anti-tumour activity. Our results support further studies evaluating KN026 and the combination treatment with other active drugs in patients with advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction cancer having high-level HER2 expression.
