on compared to 95% of households in the urban area. Therefore, the Indian government should take steps to enhance urban drinking water quality and rural sanitation infrastructure.Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare inflammatory papulosquamous skin disease that has six distinct types. Type 5 PRP is called atypical juvenile PRP. Here we report the case of a 17-year-old boy with insignificant past medical history presenting with a history of persistent slowly progressing very itchy skin lesions since the age of seven years. The lesions were photoaggravated. No similar cases in the family were observed and the parents were not consanguint. Skin examination revealed scaly erythematous patches, papules and plaques all over his body. Selleckchem Omilancor There were also ichthyosiform-like scales covering the whole body. Hair, nails, and mucus membranes examinations were normal. A 4-mm punch skin biopsy was taken. The dermis revealed hyperkeratosis with checkerboard pattern of orthokeratosis and parakeratosis, the granular layer was preserved and acanthosis with thick and short rete ridges. The dermis showed mild perivascular lymphocytic infiltrates. On the basis of the above clinicopathological findings, the diagnosis of pityriasis rubra pilaris (atypical juvenile type) (type 5) was made. The patient was started on isotretinoin capsule 20 mg twice a day and placed under periodic follow-up.West Nile virus (WNV) neuroinvasive disease is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Clinical suspicion is usually confirmed with cerebrospinal (CSF) immunoglobulin M (IgM) detection using enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) techniques. CSF polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is rarely used to confirm the disease and is not widely available. We present a detailed report of false-negative WNV IgM in a patient receiving rituximab therapy for rheumatoid arthritis. She was exposed to the virus during peak immunosuppression and strong clinical suspicion was confirmed with WNV PCR, illustrating the importance of such consideration with the recent incremental use of rituximab therapy. Despite the lack of specific anti-viral treatment for WNV, delayed consideration and diagnosis of WNV in those who are immunosuppressed would expose them to a wide panel of testing, with a subsequent increase in the cost of medical care.Congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV) is the most common intrauterine infection, with an incidence of 0.5% to 1.3% in the United States of America (USA). The majority of cCMV infections are asymptomatic at birth. In this case report, we present a full-term neonate who was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for early onset sepsis and had an incidental finding in the placenta suggestive of Cytomegalovirus infection that was later confirmed on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test in the blood. The infant was further evaluated for signs of CMV infection complete blood count (CBC), head ultrasound, audiology, and ophthalmology exams were performed that did not show any abnormality. He was discharged home with audiology, ophthalmology, primary care, and infectious disease specialties follow-up appointments. Our case emphasizes the role of placental examination in looking for evidence of CMV infection so that infants can be diagnosed as well as followed up appropriately and necessary interventions can be provided on time for the best possible outcomes.
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is responsible for significant mortality and morbidity among patients. Many factors are associated with the increasing prevalence of CAD in a population, including diet and lifestyle, physical inactivity, high cholesterol levels, and others.

The purpose of this study is to assess the awareness level and knowledge about CAD risk factors and its prevalence among the general population in Taif city, Saudi Arabia.

This study was a community-based cross-sectional descriptive study carried out from August 2022 to September 2022 by an online questionnaire previously validated in published studies andthen distributed via different social media platforms to assess participants' knowledge of risk factors for CAD. The survey included questions about socio-demographic data and risk factors of cardiovascular diseases and their prevalence.

A total of 2439 participants met the inclusion criteria and finally enrolled in the current study. About 1671 (68.5%) were found to have good awareness levels, 718 (29.4%) of the participants were considered to be having fair awareness levels, and only 50 (2.1%) of the participants were with poor awareness levels.

Most participants have a good level of knowledge and awareness about CAD. Few knowledge gaps were regarding certain factors, including age, gender, and family history of CAD. High educational level and age were found to be linked with a higher level of knowledge regarding CAD.

Pedicle screw placement can be employed in scoliosis corrective procedures but poses a danger of disrupting the motor and sensory pathways by injuries to the nerves, spinal cord, and vasculature. Occasionally traction weight is applied before the instrumentation for correction. This correction weight may cause spinal cord functional compromise and may result in postoperative paresis or paralysis. A 10-year-old female patient with Cobb's angle of 120 degrees was scheduled for scoliosis correction surgery. A multimodality intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) approach was designed with somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs), transcranial electrical motor evoked potentials (TCeMEPs), spontaneous electromyography (s-EMG), triggered electromyography (t-EMG) and train of four (TOF). In this patient, after placing the pedicle screw, TCeMEP changes were immediately identified and reported to the surgeon in the left lower extremity followed by both lower extremities. The surgeon immediately asked the anesthesiologist to remove 25 pounds of traction weight from the head and increase the mean arterial pressure. TCeMEP responses returned to the baselines immediately. Later during the surgery, left arm SSEP changes were also identified, which returned to normal on the repositioning of the arm. Multimodal IONM has the benefit of monitoring the sensory and motor functions of the spinal cord and nerve function at risk of damage during the procedure. The utilization of IONM in this spinal cord correction surgery helped to detect and timely reverse nerve injuries. We strongly recommend utilizing multimodality IONM during scoliosis correction procedures as a standard of care to minimize postoperative neurological deficits.Uni-ventricle transposition of great arteries with ductus-dependent pulmonary circulations with hypoplastic pulmonary atresia (PA) represents rare cardiac malformations. We are presenting a unique case of a 22-year-old male who complained of dizziness since morning with numbness of the left lower and upper limbs. He also complained of palpitations on and off for two to three years with episodes of cyanosis on exertion. He gave a history of cough with frothy pink sputum at the same time. At birth, he was diagnosed to have cyanotic congenital heart disease (CCHD), for which he was prescribed a combination of ambrisentan 5 mg and tadalafil 20 mg and tablet aspirin 75mg along with some lifesaving modalities like proper hydration and phlebotomy as and when required. He was told to go for high-risk surgery like Blalock Taussig shunt or bidirectional Glenn. A Blalock Taussig shunt is a short tube only a few mm wide, which makes a path for blood to go from the arterial circulation to the lungs and bidirectional Glenn sends blood directly from the upper body to the lungs. Strict compliance with drug therapy is implied for the patient for a better outcome. Background Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is an effective disinfectant consisting of oxygen, chloride, and potassium. Because of its high oxidative capacity, ClO2 exerts antimicrobial, antiviral, and antifungal effects. However, its anticancer effects remain to be elucidated. Methodology The anticancer activity of CIO2 was assessed on DMS114 small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) as control by WST-1, Annexin V, cell cycle analysis, and acridine orange staining. We for the first time investigated the possible therapeutic effects of long-term stabilized ClO2 solution (LTSCD). Results Our preliminary findings showed that LTSCD significantly inhibited the proliferation of SCLC cells (p less then 0.01) with less toxicity in HUVEC cells. Additionally, LTSCD induced apoptotic cell death in SCLC cells through nuclear blebbing and vacuolar formation. However, LTSCD treatment did not induce cell cycle arrest in both cell lines. Conclusions LTSCD can be a therapeutic potential for the treatment of SCLC. However, further investigations are required to assess the LTSCD-induced cell death in SCLC both in vitro and in vivo.Corneal blindness refers to a group of eye disorders that change the corneal transparency, causing corneal scarring and blindness. The leading causes of corneal blindness include infectious causes, i.e., due to bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa. The most common predisposing factors are trauma, contact lens usage, or the use of steroid medications. The various other diseases included are trachoma, dry eye disease, keratoconus, ophthalmia neonatorum, and non-infectious uveitis. Various clinical modalities are used for treating corneal blindness, including organ transplantation. Organ donation is cumbersome as various ethical and other factors are involved. Hence the concept of eye banking was introduced to meet the increasing demand for donors of the cornea. The eye bank's role is harvesting, processing, and keeping a record of the cornea being transplanted and donated. Furthermore, various recent advancements have been made for lamellar keratoplasty surgeries, including bioengineered corneas to fulfil the need for the unavailability of donors for the cornea. Various specific health interventions have been implemented to reduce the prevalence of corneal blindness globally. For proper management of corneal blindness, we have three components that are needed to be taken care of prevention of corneal blindness, appropriate treatment modalities, and providing adequate rehabilitation services to the patients. This review encompasses the main reasons for corneal blindness and the management and treatment modalities available for the patients. The terms cornea, corneal blindness, treatment, management, causes, and complications were used for the review article on PubMed.Conventional treatment for cancer is done by chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and/or surgery, which work by inhibiting the growth of the rapidly dividing neoplastic cells and excision of the neoplastic tissue, respectively. These methods affect the healthy tissues along with the diseased ones, as chemotherapeutic agents often cause toxicity in the body and a variety of unfavorable side effects, which can highly impair bodily functions. Otherwise, while operating, there is the danger of some cancerous cells not being excised or unnecessary additional removal of healthy tissues, again causing the patient to lose some functionality of their body. The emerging field of nanotechnology helps to revolutionize imaging and therapeutic management in cancer. The use of metallic nanoparticles, especially those derived from an inert metal like gold, which has a great list of advantages such as high biocompatibility, non-toxicity, easy synthesis, and effective functionality, makes this innovative technology crucial for further propagation of this field.
