The AuAg nanoalloys were in situ grown on h-BN by chemical reduction method, and the Au/Ag molar ratio was tuned to achieve optimal SERS performance. After the SERS performance of h-BN/AuAg NAHs with different Au/Ag ratios was analyzed, h-BN/Au1Ag3 NAHs were chosen for SERS analysis. The h-BN/Au1Ag3 membrane can be obtained through simple filtration of h-BN/Au1Ag3 NAHs on chromatographic paper. As expected, the solid SERS substrates of h-BN/Au1Ag3 membrane were uniform and demonstrated good selectivity, repeatability and reproducibility for SERS detection of melamine. The results demonstrate that h-BN/Au1Ag3 membrane exhibited high SERS activity for 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA) with limit of detection (LOD) at 1.0 ng L-1, and its analytical enhancement factor (AEF) reached 3.6 × 108. The possible enhancement mechanism, including electromagnetic mechanisms (EM) and chemical mechanisms (CM) were illustrated by finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) and density functional theory (DFT) simulations in detail, respectively. The concentration of melamine in the 0.05-5.0 mg L-1 range showed good linear relationship (R2 = 0.9940) with SERS intensity with LOD of 0.01 mg L-1. Finally, the recoveries of melamine in liquid milk samples are 87.7-105.7% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) in range of 0.6-2.6%, providing precise safety evaluation of melamine in milk samples.Near-infrared spectroscopy technique is a prevailing tool for quality control of foods and traditional Chinese medicines. However, it usually faced the problems of severe peak overlap, low classification accuracy and poor specificity. In this work, the potential of carbon dot-tetramethoxyporphyrin nanocomposite-based nano-effect near-infrared spectroscopy sensor combined with chemometric method was investigated for the accurate identification lily from different geographical origins. Partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) was used for differentiating geographical origins of lily based on the collected traditional and nano-effect near-infrared spectroscopy. Compared with traditional near-infrared spectroscopy, the nano-effect near-infrared spectroscopy obtains superior classification performance with 100% accuracy on the training and test set. The results showed that the proposed method based on near-infrared spectroscopy combined with nanocomposites and chemometrics could be considered as a promising tool for rapid discrimination of the authenticity of food and traditional Chinese medicine in the future.
A combination therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and platinum-based chemotherapy has become the first-line treatment for recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous carcinoma (HNSCC). Although steroids are often used as anti-emetic medications during chemotherapy, their adverse effects on immune-combined chemotherapy are unclear in HNSCC.

The effects of dexamethasone on tumor growth and immune cell population were evaluated in a mouse HNSCC model treated with PD-1 blockade combined with cisplatin. The effect of various doses of dexamethasone on cell proliferation, survival, surface markers, IFN-γ production, and antitumor effects in antigen-specific T cells was examined in vitro. The recovery of T cell dysfunction by IL-2 was assessed in vitro and in vivo.

In a mouse HNSCC model, dexamethasone showed limited antitumor effects on immunochemotherapy. Dexamethasone decreased the number of T cells and inhibited T cell differentiation into effector and central memory T cells. In the in vitro assessment, dexamethasone induced cell death, limited proliferation, and reduced the reactivity against HNSCC cell lines of antigen-specific T cells in a dose-dependent manner. O145, a pivotal serogroup in non-O157 Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, has never been considered an important serogroup among APEC. The prevalence of APEC O145 was determined from the results of molecular serogrouping based on 42 sequenced isolates from Jiangsu and Guangxi Provinces in China. After realizing the potential importance of O145, 224 APEC isolates isolated from Jiangsu, Guangxi, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Yunnan and Fujian provinces were screened using PCR amplification. The results showed that the proportion of O145 detected was 37.9 % (85/224), which was higher than those of the three traditional APEC serogroups. The virulence evaluation experiment showed that this serogroup may have stronger pathogenicity. Here, we report for the first time that O145 may be emerging as a predominant serogroup of APEC in China. The possible reasons for its prevalence and oversight were analyzed through genomic analysis. Furthermore, pangenome analysis with STEC O145 was performed to assess the potential threat to humans. The discovery of the ubiquity of O145 may not be coincidental, which may also account for the failure of vaccines that target the three major serogroups. Sulfonylurea herbicides are being increasingly used and display low levels of degradation in water which suggest that they might affect non-target organisms. In a common garden experiment, eggs of a widespread amphibian (Bufo spinosus) were exposed to sublethal environmentally relevant concentrations of a widely used sulfonylurea herbicide, nicosulfuron, during the whole embryonic development. We assessed development-related traits (i.e., development duration, hatching success, hatchling size and occurrence of malformation) as well as antioxidant markers in response to contamination (i.e., SOD, GPx, catalase, thiols and relevant ratios thereof). We found that sublethal concentrations of nicosulfuron increased embryonic development duration, increased hatchling size and tended to increase malformations. Embryos exposed to nicosulfuron displayed decreased thiols and increased catalase activity suggesting alteration of oxidative status. We did not find any effect of nicosulfuron on SOD and GPx levels. Interestingly, higher catalase activity was linked to higher proportion of malformed individuals, suggesting that exposure to nicosulfuron induced teratogenic effects. Our results suggest that alteration of antioxidant levels might be one physiological mechanism through which nicosulfuron might cause detrimental effects on amphibian embryos. Melatonin (MT) exhibits an inhibitory effect of oxidative stress and apoptosis in various diseases. 2, 2', 4, 4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47) is the main homolog of PBDE samples. Therefore, we investigated the toxic mechanism of BDE-47 and the alleviation effect of MT, the ctenopharyngodon idellus kidney (CIK) cells were treated with BDE-47 (100 μM) and/or MT (60 μM) for 24 h. Firstly, BDE-47 exposure could inhibit oxidative stress-related antioxidant enzymes (T-AOC, SOD, CAT and GPx) and increase the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) to cause oxidative stress. Secondly, BDE-47 enhanced mitochondrial division and inhibited fusion to induce mitochondrial membrane potential in CIK cells. BDE-47 enhanced the mRNA and protein levels of mitochondrial-pathway apoptosis related genes (Cas 3, Cyt-c, and BAX). Thirdly, BDE-47 treatment decreased the expression levels of mitochondrial-related regulatory factors AMPK-Sirt1-PGC-1α signal pathway. Intriguingly, BDE-47-induced oxidative stress, mitochondrial pathway apoptosis and mitochondrial dynamics disorder could be alleviated by MT treatment. Overall, we concluded that MT could relieve BDE-47-induced oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis through the AMPK-Sirt1-PGC-1α axis. Here we show that the networks mediate migration of heavy metal cadmium (Cd) from maize (Zea mays L.) to soybean (Glycine max (Linn.) Merr.) plants. CMNs between maize and soybean plants were established after inoculation of maize plants with AMF Funneliformis mosseae. Application of CdCl2 in maize plants led to 64.4% increase in the shoots and 48.2% increase in the roots in Cd content in CMNs-connected soybean plants compared to the control without Cd treatment in maize. Meanwhile, although the CMNs-connected soybean plants did not directly receive Cd supply, they upregulated transcriptional levels of Cd transport-related genes HATPase and RSTK 2.13- and 5.96-fold, respectively, induced activities of POD by 44.8% in the leaves, and increased MDA by 146.2% in the roots. Furthermore, Cd addition inhibited maize growth but mycorrhizal colonization improved plant performance in presence of Cd stress. This finding demonstrates that mycorrhizal networks mediate the transfer of Cd between plants of different species, suggesting a potential to use CMNs as a conduit to transfer toxic heavy metals from main food crops to heavy metal hyperaccumulators via intercropping.Since the inception of SARS-CoV-2 in December 2019, many variants have emerged over time. Such 12 different important variants identified so far are B.1.1.7 (Alpha), B.1.351 (Beta), B.1.525 (Eta), B.1.427/B.1.429 (Epsilon), B.1.526 (Iota), B.1.617.1 (Kappa), B.1.617.2 (Delta), C.37 (Lambda), P.1 (Gamma), P.2 (Zeta), P.3 (Theta) and the recently discovered B.1.1.529 (Omicron). These variants have 84 unique mutations in Spike glycoprotein. To analyse such mutations, multiple sequence alignment of 77681 SARS-CoV-2 genomes of 98 countries over the period from January 2020 to July 2021 is performed followed by phylogenetic analysis.
