To develop and validate a mathematical model for predicting intracranial pressure (ICP) noninvasively using phase-contrast cine MRI (PC-MRI). We performed a retrospective analysis of PC-MRI from patients with communicating hydrocephalus (n = 138). The patients were recruited from Shenzhen Second People's Hospital between November 2017 and April 2020, and randomly allocated into training (n = 97) and independent validation (n = 41) groups. All participants underwent lumbar puncture and PC-MRI in order to evaluate ICP and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) parameters (i.e., aqueduct diameter and flow velocity), respectively. A novel ICP-predicting model was then developed based on the nonlinear relationships between the CSF parameters, using the Levenberg-Marquardt and general global optimisation methods. There was no significant difference in baseline demographic characteristics between the training and independent validation groups. The accuracy of the model for predicting ICP was 0.899 in the training cohort (n = 97) and 0.861 in the independent validation cohort (n = 41). selleck kinase inhibitor We obtained an ICP-predicting model that showed excellent performance in the noninvasive diagnosis of clinically significant communicating hydrocephalus. We investigated redox homeostasis in cerebral and peripheral tissues of wild type (WT) and glutaryl-CoA dehydrogenase knockout mice (Gcdh-/-) submitted to inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) since patients with glutaric aciduria type I (GA I) manifest acute encephalopathy during catabolic events triggered by inflammation. WT and Gcdh-/- mice fed a low (0.9%) or high (4.7%) Lys chow were euthanized 4 h after LPS intraperitoneal injection. Cerebral cortex of Lys-restricted Gcdh-/- animals presented no alterations of redox homeostasis, whereas those fed a high Lys chow showed increased malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, compared to WT mice. Furthermore, Gcdh-/- mice receiving low Lys and injected with LPS presented elevated MDA levels and decreased reduced glutathione (GSH) concentrations, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione reductase (GR) activities in cerebral cortex. LPS administration also decreased GSH values, as well as GPx and GR activities in cerebral cortex of Gcdh-/- mice receiving Lys overload. Further experiments performed in WT and Gcdh-/- mice injected with LPS and receiving either a low or high Lys chow revealed increased MDA levels and decreased GSH concentrations in cerebral cortex and striatum, but not in hippocampus, liver and heart of Gcdh-/- mice, suggesting a selective vulnerability of these cerebral structures to oxidative stress during an inflammatory process. LPS administration also increased S100B and NF-κF protein levels in brain of Gcdh-/- mice receiving high Lys. These data support the hypothesis that low Lys diet is beneficial in GA I by preventing redox imbalance, whereas a high Lys diet or systemic inflammation per se or combined induce oxidative stress in striatum and cerebral cortex that are mainly damaged in this disorder.Green consumption can facilitate sustainable industrial development and improve the overall efficiency of resource utilization. In response to rapid economic development and increasing environmental emissions, it is critical to promote green consumption so that the whole society can move toward sustainable development. This study aims to systematically review studies on green consumption by means of meta-analysis, bibliometric analysis, and social network analysis. The results show that green consumption is an interdisciplinary research field, involving environmental science, social science, medical science, economics, and other disciplines. Most productive countries, institutions, authors are identified so that the new researchers in this field can find their research partners. Keywords analysis results help identify the research hotpots in this field. It is suggested that future green consumption research should focus on behavior mechanism, stakeholder coordination, and policy evaluation. In general, the results obtained from this study provide valuable information for researchers and practitioners to promote green consumption research.Fluoride contamination in groundwater is a major problem throughout the world as well as in India. High-fluoride content was reported in the hot springs of Atri and Tarbalo sites in Odisha, India, and residents of nearby villages showed the manifestations of fluorosis. Around 39% of the groundwater samples showed fluoride concentration > 1 mg/l, higher than the desirable limit specified by the WHO. The dominant chemical facies of groundwaters were ions of Ca-Mg-HCO3 and Ca-Na-Cl, which infers the lithological control over the hydrochemistry of this area. A strong correlation between fluoride and other major ions could not be found, suggesting that multiple processes are responsible for the enriched fluoride concentration observed in the study area. The major geochemical processes include dissolution of fluoride-bearing minerals from the rocks, evapotranspiration, agricultural input and mixing of cold groundwater with hot spring water containing high fluoride. The maximum fluoride exposure doses through drinking water from fluoride-contaminated tube wells were estimated to be 0.07 mg/kg/d for infants, 0.125 mg/kg/d for children and 0.06 mg/kg/d for adults, which are higher than the minimum risk level (0.05 mg/kg/d). Exposure doses of fluoride indicate that exposure risk is doubled for children in comparison to infants and adults, which might cause severe dental fluorosis and other ailments. Considering the environmental and hydrological set up of the study area, membrane defluoridation process can be suggested as the best remediation method. Nalgonda technique, dilution of fluoride-rich groundwater and better nutrition containing calcium and vitamin C are other possible options that can be included for early mitigation of fluoride contamination. The COVID-19 outbreak has become a global pandemic. The spatial variation in the environmental, health, socioeconomic, and demographic risk factors of COVID-19 death rate is not well understood. Global models and local linear models were used to estimate the impact of risk factors of the COVID-19, but these do not account for the nonlinear relationships between the risk factors and the COVID-19 death rate at various geographical locations. We proposed a local nonlinear nonparametric regression model named geographically weighted random forest (GW-RF) to estimate the nonlinear relationship between COVID-19 death rate and 47 risk factors derived from the US Environmental Protection Agency, National Center for Environmental Information, Centers for Disease Control and the US census. The COVID-19 data were employed to a global regression model random forest (RF) and a local model GW-RF. The adjusted R2 of the RF is 0.69. The adjusted R2 of the proposed GW-RF is 0.78. The result of GW-RF showed that the risk factors (i.e. going to work by walking, airborne benzene concentration, householder with a mortgage, unemployment, airborne PM2.5 concentration and per cent of the black or African American) have a high correlation with the spatial distribution of the COVID-19 death rate, and these key factors driven from the GW-RF were mapped, which could provide useful implications for controlling the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.Impervious surface is mainly defined as any surface which water cannot infiltrate the soil. Due to the impact of urban impervious surfaces (UIS) on environmental issues, the amount of impervious surfaces has been recognized as the most significant index of environmental quality. Detection and analysis of impervious surfaces within a watershed is one of the developing areas of scientific interest. This study evaluates and compares the accuracy and performance of five classification algorithms-supervised object-based nearest neighbour (NN) classifier, supervised pixel-based maximum likelihood classifier (MLC), supervised pixel-based spectral angle mapper (SAM), band ratioing normalized difference built-up index (NDBI), and normalized difference impervious index (NDII)-in extracting urban impervious surfaces. Our first aim was to identify the most effective method for mapping UIS using Sentinel-2A and Landsat-8 satellite data. The second aim was to compare and reveal the efficiency of the spatial and spectral resolution of Sentinel-2A and Landsat-8 data in extracting UIS. The results revealed that the supervised object-based NN approach using the visible and near-infrared bands of both satellite imagery produced the most homogenous and accurate map among the other methods. The object-based NN algorithm achieved an overall classification accuracy of 90.91% and 88.64%, and Kappa coefficient of 0.82 and 0.77 for Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8 images, respectively. The study also showed that the Sentinel-2 image yielded better results than the Landsat-8 pan-sharpened image in extracting detail and classification accuracy. Comparing these methods in the selected challenging study area can provide insight into the selection of the classification method for rapid and reliable extraction of UIS.Soil pollution is one of the most important issues in environmental governance at present. Using scientific and reasonable methods to estimate the economic losses caused by soil pollution is the basis for maximizing the effectiveness of governance resources. This study combines the methods of mixed group discussion and literature analysis to establish preliminary soil pollution value loss measurement indicators. The Delphi method is used to modify, add, and delete indicators to obtain a set of feasible soil pollution value loss measurement indicator systems. It laid a method foundation for further quantifying the loss of soil pollution value and provided support to related government decisions such as land resource management and soil pollution control. The response coefficients of the two rounds of expert consultations were 81.2% and 77.8%; the degree of expert authority was 0.647 and 0.708; the coordination coefficients were 0.155 and 0.194; the final indicator system included three dimensions of economic, social, and environmental, a total of eight indicators. The experts in the soil pollution value loss measurement index system established in this study have unified final opinions and a good degree of coordination, which can be used to measure soil pollution value loss. The endocrine system of crustaceans regulates the molt cycle with ecdysteroid hormones, mainly the 20-hydroxyecdysone (20-HE). Moreover, the molt process requires the action of chitinolytic enzymes (e.g., chitinase, chitobiase) to break down the old cuticle. However, endocrine disrupting compounds (EDC) are capable of altering their normal functioning. Glyphosate-based herbicides (GBH), such as Roundup®, the most widely used herbicides, are found in freshwater environments and have been considered EDC for many aquatic organisms. Therefore, this study examined the effects of environmentally relevant GBH concentrations (0.0065, 0.065, and 0.28 mg L-1) on the 20-HE concentration and chitobiase activity in the decapod prawn Macrobrachium potiuna exposed for 14 days. Additionally, lipid peroxidation, a biomarker of membrane lipid degradation, was evaluated in hepatopancreas to assess cellular damage. Results showed that GBH decreased the 20-HE concentration in females at the two highest concentrations tested, while an increase was observed in males exposed to the highest GBH concentration.
