Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic immune-mediated disease of the gastrointestinal tract. While therapies exist, response can be limited within the patient population. Researchers have thus studied mouse models of colitis to further understand pathogenesis and identify new treatment targets. selleck chemicals Flow cytometry and RNA-sequencing can phenotype immune populations with single-cell resolution but provide no spatial context. Spatial context may be particularly important in colitis mouse models, due to the simultaneous presence of colonic regions that are involved or uninvolved with disease. These regions can be identified on hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained colonic tissue slides based on the presence of abnormal or normal histology. However, detection of such regions requires expert interpretation by pathologists. This can be a tedious process that may be difficult to perform consistently across experiments. To this end, we trained a deep learning model to detect 'Involved' and 'Uninvolved' regions from H&E-stained colonic tissue slides. Our model was trained on specimens from controls and three mouse models of colitis-the dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) chemical induction model, the recently established intestinal epithelium-specific, inducible Klf5ΔIND (Villin-CreERT2;Klf5fl/fl) genetic model, and one that combines both induction methods. Image patches predicted to be 'Involved' and 'Uninvolved' were extracted across mice to cluster and identify histological classes. We quantified the proportion of 'Uninvolved' patches and 'Involved' patch classes in murine swiss-rolled colons. Furthermore, we trained linear determinant analysis classifiers on these patch proportions to predict mouse model and clinical score bins in a prospectively treated cohort of mice. Such a pipeline has the potential to reveal histological links and improve synergy between various colitis mouse model studies to identify new therapeutic targets and pathophysiological mechanisms.Laser-induced graphene (LIG) represents a fast-speed and low-cost method to prepare the customizable graphene-based patterns in complex configurations with exceptional electrical performance. This paper presents the applications of LIG formed on the commercial polyimide (PI) film as the stretchable strain sensor and electrical-actuated actuators. First, the conductive performances of the LIG were systematically revealed under different fabrication conditions via investigating the effects of processing parameters, and the fluence of the laser was experimentally demonstrated as the only crucial parameter to evaluate the LIG formation, facilitating the selection of optimized manufacturing parameters to prepare the LIG with desired electrical performances. Then, the LIG-based strain sensor which can undergo over 50% tensile strain was fabricated by transfer of the LIG from the PI film to polydimethylsiloxane. The variety of LIG-based electro-thermal actuators to achieve pre-designed 3D architectures was presented, along with their parameter analysis. After incorporating the multimeter system, the actuator can even feedback its transformation from 2D precursor to 3D architecture by monitoring the resistance variation of LIG, revealing the integrated capability of our design in serving as sensors and actuators. Finally, the wearable glove with the LIG sensors was presented to demonstrate its ability to remotely control the soft robotic hand.Tsetse flies use antennal expressed genes to navigate their environment. While most canonical genes associated with chemoreception are annotated, potential gaps with important antennal genes are uncharacterized in Glossina morsitans morsitans. We generated antennae-specific transcriptomes from adult male G. m. morsitans flies fed/unfed on bloodmeal and/or exposed to an attractant (ε-nonalactone), a repellant (δ-nonalactone) or paraffin diluent. Using bioinformatics approach, we mapped raw reads onto G. m. morsitans gene-set from VectorBase and collected un-mapped reads (constituting the gaps in annotation). We de novo assembled these reads (un-mapped) into transcript and identified corresponding genes of the transcripts in G. m. morsitans gene-set and protein homologs in UniProt protein database to further annotate the gaps. We predicted potential protein-coding gene regions associated with these transcripts in G. m. morsitans genome, annotated/curated these genes and identified their putative annotated ortho specific roles in antennal physiological processes in male G. m. morsitans. A novel gene (GMOY014237.R1396) was differentially expressed in response to the attractant. We thus established significant gaps in G. m. morsitans genome annotation and identified novel male antennae-expressed genes in the genome, among which > 53% (108) are potentially G. m. morsitans specific.SFTSV, a tick-borne bunyavirus causing a severe hemorrhagic fever termed as severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS). To evaluate the potential role of rodents and its ectoparasitic chiggers in the transmission of SFTSV, we collected wild rodents and chiggers on their bodies from a rural area in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, China in September 2020. PCR amplification of the M and L segments of SFTSV showed that 32.3% (10/31) of rodents and 0.2% (1/564) of chiggers (Leptotrombidium deliense) from the rodents were positive to SFTSV. Our results suggested that rodents and chiggers may play an important role in the transmission of SFTSV, although the efficiency of chiggers to transmit SFTSV needs to be further investigated experimentally.
There is a plethora of unanswered ethical questions about sharing incidental findings in genetics and genomics research. Yet understanding and addressing such issues is necessary for communicating incidental findings with participants. We explored researchers' perspectives and experiences regarding feedback of incidental genomics findings to participants.
This was a qualitative study using semi-structured interview schedules for In-depth interviews. Thirty respondents were purposively selected based on role as genetics and genomics researchers in Uganda. Data were analysed through content analysis to identify emerging themes using a comprehensive thematic matrix. QSR International NVivo software was used to support data analysis.

Through 12 focus group discussions with the public and energy experts, this study found that energy information flows from scientists to the public through both direct (e.g., roadshows, scientists' blogs) and indirect (via agents, e.g., school, news media) channels. However, communication gaps remain between scientists and the public. First, the public commonly obtains information from personal experience and the media but not directly from scientists. Second, while the public stressed the importance of mass media and social media, only a few experts reported writing news commentaries or making social media posts about energy. Third, while scientists emphasize their relationships with the government and other agencies in disseminating information, the public shows relatively weak trust in these agencies. Implications are made for future research and public communication on energy issues.A recent first detection of pigeon aviadenovirus-1 and pigeon circovirus co-infection associated with Young Pigeon Disease Syndrome (YPDS) in a pigeon flock in Turkey, prompted a study focused on documenting the distribution of Pigeon aviadenovirus (PiAdV-1 and PiAdV-2), Pigeon circovirus (PiCV), Columbid alphaherpesvirus 1 (pigeon herpesvirus (PiHV)) and Fowl aviadenovirus (FAdV) in the country. These viruses were selected as they are associated with severe disease in pigeons across the world. A total of 192 cloacal swabs were collected from young ( less then 1 year old) pigeons from 16 different private pigeon flocks across Turkey, between 2018 and 2021 as part of routine diagnostic sampling. PiCV genetic material was the most frequently detected 4/16 (25%), PiAdV-1 and CoHV-1 DNA were both found in one flock each, while neither PiAdV-2 and FAdV were detected in any of the studied pigeon flocks. PiCV and PiHV genetic material were both detected in the same pigeon flock's cloacal samples as a co-infection with the identification of PiHV being a first in Turkey.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1371/journal.pgen.1003025.].
The life and health of street children are becoming a global concern. Push and pull factors i.e. poverty, family death, economic decline, child abuse, financial independence, and peer influence draw children into the street. The street lives by itself pushes them into sex work, and lack of shelter magnificent abuses, where both sexes have the same sleeping quarters.
A phenomenological study design was employed from January to March 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Time-Space Sampling (TSS) was used to recruit participants into the study. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and individual in-depth interview were used to collect data. Data analyzed by using framework analysis software.

Based on the panel data of 2,634 Chinese non-financial listed companies from 2007 to 2019, this paper adopts multiple linear regression and the Bootstrap method to investigate the impact of M&A goodwill on corporate technological innovation and the mechanism through which M&A goodwill affects technological innovation. The results show that (1) There is a significant negative correlation between M&A goodwill and technological innovation input, with financial constraints acting as the main channels. (2) Non-private corporations enjoy a higher level of financing capacity in terms of debt and equity compared with private corporations, resulting in the absence of the disincentive effect of M&A goodwill on corporate technological innovation inputs, despite the fact that M&A activities also cause massive resource consumption. (3) Stock pledges by controlling shareholders are effective in alleviating the negative impact of M&A goodwill on technological innovation inputs.
