The bespoke dual interfacial layers, accessed via grafting laser-generated carbon dots with phenolic hydroxyl groups (LGCDs-PHGs), are experimentally verified effective, not only in generating the uniform layer of LGCDs with covalent anchoring for inhibited photocorrosion, but also in activating, respectively, the charge separation and transfer in each layer for boosted charge-carrier kinetics, resulting in FeNiOOH-LGCDs-PHGs-MBVO photoanodes with a dual configuration with the photocurrent density of 6.08 mA cm-2 @ 1.23 VRHE , and operational stability up to 120 h @ 1.23 VRHE . Further work exploring LGCDs-PHGs from catecholic molecules warrants the proposed strategy as being a universal alternative for addressing the interfacial charge-carrier kinetics and operational stability of semiconductor photoelectrodes.

Pediatric
Xe gas-transfer MRI was adequately successful and gas-transfer metrics correlated with age. Exploratory analysis revealed abnormalities in a variety of pediatric obstructive and restrictive lung diseases.

2 TECHNICAL EFFICACY STAGE 2.Recent researches reveal that during oocyte maturation, species-specific molecular profile exists and has important functional roles. However, molecular differences between pig (a larger animal model for human reproduction) and human mature oocytes remain unknown. Here, by comparative transcriptome analyses of single-cell RNA-seq data, we aimed to identify the common and unique maternal factors and associated biological processes between in vivo and in vitro matured pig oocytes, and between in vitro matured human and pig oocytes. Annotated protein-coding mRNAs were identified in pig in vivo (11,147) and in vitro (11,997), and human in vitro (14,491) MII oocytes, respectively. For in vivo and in vitro derived pig MII oocytes, 10,551 annotated maternal mRNAs were common, mainly enriched in signalling pathways such as cell cycle, oocyte meiosis, microtubule cytoskeleton, MAPK, RNA processing/binding. Besides, in vivo (596) and in vitro (1446) pig MII-specific mRNAs and their involved signalling pathways (in vivo Bmp, calcium-mediated signalling, PI3K-Akt; in vitro growth factor activity, JAK-STAT, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, calcium signalling pathway) were also found. As for in vitro derived human and pig MII oocytes, 10,285 annotated mRNAs were common, enriched in a variety of signalling pathways (cell cycle, oocyte meiosis, microtubule, AMPK, RNA splicing, protein serine/threonine kinase activity, etc). In vitro MII-specific mRNAs were found for humans (4206) and pigs (1712), which were also enriched in species-specific signalling pathways (humans golgi-related terms, transcription repressor and hormone activity; pigs ATP biosynthetic process, G protein-coupled peptide receptor activity, animoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis), respectively. These findings improve our understanding on oocyte maturation, and also the limitations of pig model for human oocyte maturation and fertilization.It is well known that approximately 99% of ovarian follicles in mammals suffer from a degenerative process known as atresia, which is a huge waste of genetic resource in female animals. Studies have shown that activin A (ACT-A) is located in ovarian granulosa cells and has different effects in granulosa cell depending on species. Although granulosa cells play a critical role during follicular atresia, the mechanism of action of ACT-A in bovine ovarian granulosa cells (BGC) is poorly understood. In this study, we first determined the apoptosis of BGCs isolated from growth follicles and atretic follicles respectively. Then, BGC isolated from atretic follicles were used as a model to elucidate the role of ACT-A in cattle ovary. The results showed that apoptosis occurred in both growing follicles and atretic follicles, and the percentage of apoptotic cells in atretic follicles was higher than that in growing follicles. The current results indicated that ACT-A can attenuate apoptosis of BGC by maintaining the function of BGC in atretic follicles. Increased ERβ induced by ACT-A promoted BGC autophagy but had no effect on apoptosis. In summary, this study suggests that ACT-A attenuates BGC apoptosis in atretic follicles by ERβ-mediated autophagy signalling.Inflammasomes and gasdermins mount potent host defense pathways against invading microbial pathogens, however, dysregulation in these pathways can drive a variety of inflammatory disorders. We discuss the mechanisms by which neutrophils resist caspase-1-dependent pyroptosis, the lytic function of gasdermin D and E during NETosis and Yersinia infection, and the contribution of neutrophil inflammasomes to inflammatory disorders.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. To improve outcomes for these patients, we need to develop new treatment strategies. Personalized cancer medicine, where patients are treated based on the characteristics of their own tumor, has gained significant interest for its promise to improve outcomes and reduce unnecessary side effects. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential utility of patient-derived colorectal cancer organoids (PDCOs) in a personalized cancer medicine setting.

Patient-derived colorectal cancer organoids were derived from tissue obtained from treatment-naïve patients undergoing surgical resection for the treatment of CRC. We examined the recapitulation of key histopathological, molecular, and phenotypic characteristics of the primary tumor.

We created a bio-resource of PDCOs from primary and metastatic CRCs. Key histopathological features were retained in PDCOs when compared with the primary tumor. Additionally, a cohort of 12 PDCOs, and their corresponding primary tumors and normal sample, were characterized through whole exome sequencing and somatic variant calling. These PDCOs exhibited a high level of concordance in key driver mutations when compared with the primary tumor.

In their medical textbooks and pharmacopeias, Persian great scientists such as Rhazes (854-925 AD), Avicenna (980-1037 AD), and Jorjani (1042-1136 AD), have discussed pharmacological and nutritional strategies for the prevention, slowing progression, and treatment of PD. In the present study, we surveyed plant- and animal-based foods recommended by PM for the prevention and treatment of CNS-related tremors. In vivo and in-vitro pharmacological evidence supporting the beneficial effects of PM-recommended foods in prevention and alleviating PD, major active phytochemicals along with the relevant mechanisms of action were studied. Several PM plants possess potent antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and PD preventing properties. Garlic and allicin, cabbage and isothiocyanates, chickpea seed and its O-methylated isoflavones biochanin A and formononetin, cinnamon, and cinnamaldehyde, saffron and its crocin, crocetin, and safranal, black cumin and its thymoquinone, black pepper and piperine, pistachio and genistein and daidzein, and resveratrol are among the most effective dietary itemsagainst PD. They act through attenuating neurotoxin-induced memory loss and behavioral impairment, oxidative stress, and dopaminergic cell death. PM-recommended foods can help alleviate PD progression and also discovering and developing new neuroprotective anti-PD pharmaceuticals.Three novel diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) based small molecules have been synthesized and characterized in terms of their chemical-physical, electrochemical and electrical properties. All the molecules consist of a central DPP electron acceptor core symmetrically functionalized with donor bi-thienyl moieties and flanked in the terminal positions by three different auxiliary electron-acceptor groups. This kind of molecular structure, characterized by an alternation of electron acceptor and donor groups, was purposely designed to provide a significant absorption at the longer wavelengths of the visible spectrum when analysed as thin films, in fact, the dyes absorb well over 800 nm and exhibit a narrow optical bandgap down to 1.28 eV.
