Positive aspects of caregiving in dementia have been widely concerned, but most of them are based on the theory of the negative stress process and are limited to current situations and influencing factors. Building theories focus on the positive aspects of caregiving, subsequently developing a comprehensive measurement and effective interventions, should be further studied.
Compared with urban areas, old adults in rural areas have limited access to medical and health resources in China. Active of daily living ability (ADL) decline and depressive symptoms are common in rural older adults. In particular, the depressive symptoms of the elderly in rural areas are often ignored. Thus, it is difficult to realize high-level active aging at the individual level. In order to explore the effects of ADL and depressive symptoms on the active aging of rural elderly, we conducted a survey and analyzed the mediation and interaction effects of depressive symptoms of ADL on active aging.
From July to November 2019, a cross-sectional study of 945 elderly rural individuals was conducted in three townships in Xiangtan County, China. Active aging, ADL, and depressive symptoms were assessed using the positive aging questionnaire (PAEQ), ADL scale, and depression in old age scale (DIA-S), respectively. PROCESS macro program model 4 and logistic regression were used to explore the mediation and intn promote the realization of high-level active aging at the individual level through the prevention and treatment of depressive symptoms based on multidisciplinary care.
Animal source foods, especially fish is the most commonly consumed and an important source of macro and micronutrients in the diet of the urban low-income residents. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the food environment in Bangladesh but little is known about how food access and food prices (affordability) have affected the purchase and consumption of fish. The objective of the study was to understand the impact of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic on urban food environment with a specific focus on fish consumption.
A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 586 homogeneous adults (288 females and 298 males) from separate households from five informal settlements in Dhaka city, Bangladesh during October-November 2020. Data were collected on (1) food access and affordably; and (2) food purchase and fish consumption. The associations between food access, price, food purchase, and fish consumption were evaluated using path analysis.
The majority of respondents reported that food access was more icy actions are essential to ensure equal access to nutritious foods, such as fish. These policies need to focus on diversity and quality along with preventing increases in food prices during emergencies to mitigate future threats to the nutrition and health of the urban low-income residents.
The COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected the food environment, particularly food access, price (affordability), purchase, and consumption, especially of fish. Limited food access negatively affected the quantity, variety and quality of fish consumed. An increase in food prices directly affected the quality of fish consumed. Policy actions are essential to ensure equal access to nutritious foods, such as fish. These policies need to focus on diversity and quality along with preventing increases in food prices during emergencies to mitigate future threats to the nutrition and health of the urban low-income residents.[This corrects the article DOI 10.3389/fpubh.2022.944887.].The internet use intensity of human has increased substantially during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and it is severely impacting the well-being of chronic patients. This study aimed to explore the underlying mechanism of the relationship between internet use intensity and quality of life in chronic patients, based on the cross-sectional data from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020. The results showed that the internet use intensity had significant positive association with quality of life among chronic patients, and such association has been found in both urban and rural samples. Among the relationship of internet use intensity and quality of life in chronic patients, the mediating effect of physical exercise reached 10.25%. Furthermore, health insurance positively moderated this relationship. There are new insights for policy recommendations and clinical guidance on the role of physical activity and health insurance aimed at improving chronic patients' quality of life. Meanwhile, in both rural and urban governance, public health agencies should promote the "Internet + Healthcare" program to improve health insurance and physical activity literacy, thus providing a higher level of quality of life for patients with chronic diseases during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The COVID 19 pandemic has led to substantial disruptions in the lives of students in higher education. Partial or full closures of institutions for face-to-face teaching or consultations over a long-lasting period of time in many countries have had significant consequences on the psychosocial health and wellbeing of many students. This perspectives article summarizes the implications on mental, social, and behavioral aspects of students' wellbeing. Moreover, the need for health promoting und supportive services, programmes, structures, and policies is outlined with recommendations for institutional actions on the level of teaching practice, counseling services, and health monitoring, and with the call to re-affirm the wider policy-oriented approach of the Health Promoting University.
In early 2022, an outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) occurred in Shanghai, China. The spread of the epidemic put a large amount of stress on the local healthcare system, especially emergency nurses (ENs), which may affect their well-being and performance. Enhancing the psychological resilience of ENs during COVID-19 pandemic may improve job satisfaction, retention, and public health emergency response. However, few studies have researched the perception and psychological resilience of ENs during COVID-19 pandemic.
To understand ENs' perception and psychological resilience and their coping strategies with adversity during COVID-19 in Shanghai, as well as factors associated with psychological resilience.
This qualitative study was conducted using a phenomenological approach. A total of 17 ENs from a 3rd level hospital in Shanghai were selected using a method of purposive sampling. Between April and May 2022, in-depth semi-structured interviews and Colaizzi seven-step method were performed for, and public health emergency response. Adequate preparation before a pandemic, reasonable arrangement, a trustworthy working atmosphere, encouragement and improvement of individual and collective strategies for nurses to cope with adversity, timely rewards, and nurse empowerment, as well as counseling and training, can be used to enhance psychological resilience of ENs.
Psychological resilience is not a stable psychological characteristic but a constantly changing process that is affected by internal and external factors. CC-115 cost Enhancing resilience of ENs during the COVID-19 pandemic may improve work satisfaction, retention, and public health emergency response. Adequate preparation before a pandemic, reasonable arrangement, a trustworthy working atmosphere, encouragement and improvement of individual and collective strategies for nurses to cope with adversity, timely rewards, and nurse empowerment, as well as counseling and training, can be used to enhance psychological resilience of ENs.Governments across the globe have implemented different strategies to handle the COVID-19 pandemic. A national mandatory quarantine was the most applied policy tool. While there are studies that tested the effectiveness of a national mandatory quarantine, the question about the effectiveness of additional quarantine policies is not yet answered. In this study we focus on three large cities in Colombia (Bogota, Medellin and Cali) with similar socio-economic conditions but made use of different COVID-19 prevention measures. We examine whether different non-pharmaceutical policy interventions (NPIs) conducted in these three cities are effective against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. We inspect the effect of the quarantine policies restricting exit from home by sex, ID number, whereby only Bogota implemented the restriction to leave the home according to sex followed by a restriction according to ID number, and Medellin and Cali implemented a restriction by ID number only. Data for the analysis are obtained from the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia [Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE)]. The data on pandemic severity is measured by the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases per city. We conduct single-group interrupted time series analysis (ITSA) to examine differences in the extent of the pandemic severity in Bogota, Medellin and Cali. We found that NPIs in all three Colombian cities had a positive effect on slowing the spread of the pandemic. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic profoundly affected the management and treatment of patients with malignancies. Based on the progress reported in the literature, we reviewed the recommendations for treatment and vaccination in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) during COVID-19. We focus on whether there is a risk and what could be the possible effects of vaccinating patients with GIST/cancer. Since the situation is quickly changing, and the health services have been severely disrupted, the diagnosis, treatment and recommendations for vaccination of these patients against COVID-19 are still not updated. The approval of vaccines in the pandemic gave hope that we would soon be able to return to a more normal life. However, the oncology community needs to adapt and provide the most effective treatment and care models for patients with rare cancer, such as GIST. Collecting data on the impact of vaccination in patients with GIST/cancer also will be beneficial in expanding knowledge about the future planning of treatment strategies and optimizing care in the event of a subsequent pandemic.Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has been impacting healthcare in various ways worldwide and cancer patients are greatly affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The reorganization of the health facilities in order to supply the high demand resulting from the aforementioned infection as well as the social isolation measures led to impairments for the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with gastrointestinal cancers, which has had an impact on the prognosis of the oncologic patients. In that context, health authorities and organizations have elaborated new guidelines with specific recommendations for the management of individuals with gastrointestinal neoplasms during the pandemic. Of note, oncologic populations seem to be more susceptible to unfavorable outcomes when exposed to SARS-CoV-2 infection and some interactions involving virus, tumor, host immune system and anticancer therapies are probably related to the poorer prognosis observed in those COVID-19 patients.
