Duckweed has been considered as an alternative future food material as a result of its high nutritional values, although it also has a high moisture content resulting in a short shelf life. Moisture sorption isotherms are used to design dehydration and storage conditions to prolong the shelf life food products. To date, information regarding the sorption isotherm of duckweed has not been reported. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is frequently used to study food microstructure. However, this technique has to be performed under high-vacuum conditions and takes a long time. In the present study, two-photon imaging microscopy was selected to investigate the microstructure of dried duckweed instead of SEM.

Among five sorption isotherm models, the Peleg model gave the highest goodness of fit. The monolayer moisture content (M
) of duckweed was in the range 7.43-7.92% dry basis (d.b.) and 8.87-8.86% d.b. for the GAB and BET multilayer kinetic models, respectively. The moisture changing behavior at each relative humidity step could be described by two exponential and reaction order kinetics. A clear cell structure (hexagonal shape) and stomata, as well as structural images (both 2D and 3D), were obtained using the two-photon microscopy technique.

The Peleg model best described the moisture sorption behaviors of dried duckweed and the shape of sorption isotherms were classified as type III isotherm. The M
of dried duckweed ranged from 7.43 to 8.86% d.b. Two-photon microscopy was a potent tool for investigating the microstructure and composition of dried duckweed. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

Magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound surgery (MRgFUS) can be used to noninvasively treat symptomatic uterine fibroids by heating with focused ultrasound sonications while monitoring temperature with magnetic resonance (MR) thermometry. While prior studies have compared focused ultrasound simulations to clinical results, studies involving uterine fibroids remain scarce. In our study, we perform such a comparison to assess suitability of simulations for treatment planning.

Sonications (N = 67) were simulated retrospectively using acoustic and thermal models based on the Rayleigh integral and Pennes bioheat equation followed by MR-thermometry simulation in seven patients who underwent MRgFUS treatment for uterine fibroids. Spatial accuracy of simulated focus location was assessed by evaluating displacements of the centers of mass of the thermal dose distributions between simulated and treatment MR thermometry slices. Temperature-time curves and sizes of 240 equivalent minutes at 43°C (240EM
) volumas less impact than ultrasound absorption for predicting peak temperature elevation at least when using perfusion parameter values up to 10 kg(m-3 s-1 ) for this particular array geometry, frequencies, and tissue target which is good for clinicians to be aware of. The results suggest that simulations show promise in treatment planning, particularly in terms of spatial accuracy. However, in order to use simulations to predict temperature rise due to a sonication, knowledge of the patient specific tissue parameters, in particular the absorption coefficient is important. Currently, spatially varying patient specific tissue parameter values are not available during treatment so simulations can only be used for planning purposes to estimate sonication performance on average. To evaluate the influence of traditional and conservative access cavity preparations on the remaining dentine thickness in the coronal third of mesial canals of extracted mandibular molars prepared with reciprocating instruments using micro-computed tomography as the analytical tool.

Seventy extracted mandibular molars were scanned at a pixel size of 19μm. From this initial sample, 20 teeth were selected, pair-matched and distributed into two groups (n=10) according to the access cavity preparation traditional (TradAC) or conservative (ConsAC). The root canals were sequentially enlarged with Reciproc Blue R25 (size 25, 0.08v taper) and R40 (size 40, 0.06v taper) instruments. A new scan was performed and the postoperative stacks were coregistered with their respective preoperative datasets. A colour-coded cross sections of the roots were created and used to identify and measure the smallest dentine thickness related to both MB and ML canals at 1.0-mm intervals from the furcation level of up to 5mm in the a

This internet survey aimed to analyze the activity of midolordecabeza.org, a specialized website for headache stakeholders.

eHealth tools, such as websites, can be educational for stakeholders of a specific disease, such as patients. This is particularly helpful in chronic disorders such as migraine. eHealth also enhances patient-centered outcome research. The website midolordecabeza.org has the stated aim of organizing key information on headache making it accessible and useful for all stakeholders, and, eventually promoting patient participation.

We analyzed Google Analytics (GA) data to study the web's activity, traffic source, geographical distribution of access, registered-user behavior, electronic device performance, and temporary references with greater web activity.

From January 2015 until December 2020, the website registered 1,121,585 visitors, 1,775,953sessions, and a total of 3,833,144 views with an average time per session of nearly 2min. Higher data traffic has been registered in Spanishund the world increasingly visited the headache-specialized website midolordecabeza.org using different electronic devices, showing great interest in their disease. This website allowed them to get updated information on their disease, share clinical data with physicians, and finally express their concerns.
This pilot study examined the effects of a newly developed intergenerational program on self-concept clarity (SCC) of adolescent participants.

In 12 encounter groups, 58 secondary school students and 50 nursing home residents shared their life stories and discussed existential questions about life (e.g., important values in life, how to deal with failure and regret). The life story encounter program (LSEP) is based on the dyadic Life Story Interview and was expanded into a group format consisting of ten 90-min sessions. SCC was measured with the SCC Scale before, shortly after, and three months after the end of the LSEP.

Analyses suggest that adolescent LSEP participants' SCC improved compared to a control group (no LSEP participation). Findings also indicate that increases in SCC were associated with LSEP participants' extraversion and agreeableness.

The LSEP is a promising program for fostering SCC in adolescence. Implications for the application of the LSEP are discussed.

In recent years, the dietary structure of residents especially Chinese has gradually shifted to western dietary patterns. VC aggravates dietary fatty acid-induced hepatic steatosis, but its mechanism is still unclear. And if the risk factors for steatosis persist, more severe diseases such as fibrosis and cirrhosis will occur. Therefore, we studied the effects and mechanisms of VC (160 and 800 mg/m3 ) and its metabolite (chloroacetaldehyde, 2.25, 4.5, and 9 μM) on hepatic steatosis of high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice and palmitic acid (PA, 100 μM) treated HepG2 cells. Liver and serum biochemical indicators and pathological staining of the liver showed that the hepatic steatosis of VC combined with HFD groups was more severe than that of single-exposure groups (HFD group, low-dose VC group, and high-dose VC group). Moreover, VC enhanced HFD-induced oxidative stress (OS) and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and further upregulated the expression of sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP-1) and FAS. Besides, antioxidants and ERS inhibitors reduced the steatosis of HepG2 cells induced by VC metabolites and PA. These results suggest that VC exposure can enhance the degree of hepatic steatosis in HFD-fed mice. VC combined with HFD led to OS and ERS and upregulated the expression of de novo lipogenesis-related proteins, which may be related to the occurrence of hepatic steatosis. And the increased expression of CYP2E1 induced by VC combined with HFD may be the cause of OS.Severe COVID-19 is characterized by lung abnormalities, including the presence of syncytial pneumocytes. Syncytia form when SARS-CoV-2 spike protein expressed on the surface of infected cells interacts with the ACE2 receptor on neighboring cells. The syncytia forming potential of spike variant proteins remain poorly characterized. Here, we first assessed Alpha (B.1.1.7) and Beta (B.1.351) spread and fusion in cell cultures, compared with the ancestral D614G strain. Alpha and Beta replicated similarly to D614G strain in Vero, Caco-2, Calu-3, and primary airway cells. However, Alpha and Beta formed larger and more numerous syncytia. Variant spike proteins displayed higher ACE2 affinity compared with D614G. Alpha, Beta, and D614G fusion was similarly inhibited by interferon-induced transmembrane proteins (IFITMs). Individual mutations present in Alpha and Beta spikes modified fusogenicity, binding to ACE2 or recognition by monoclonal antibodies. We further show that Delta spike also triggers faster fusion relative to D614G. Thus, SARS-CoV-2 emerging variants display enhanced syncytia formation.
Self-defining memories (SDMs) are units of life-story analysis, whose features resemble elements from narrative identity's factorial structure. To bridge narrative-identity and personality-trait domains, we conducted a replication and extension of prior research.

We linked four SDM features - affect, specificity, meaning making, and content - to the Big Three trait domains of personality and psychopathology in a small sample that was well-powered for multilevel modeling (133 participants, 1330 SDMs).

Affect SDM affect correlated with indices of Positive Emotionality and Negative Emotionality, and narrative themes of contamination were associated with Negative Emotionality. Specificity SDM specificity vs. overgenerality related to Constraint and Negative Emotionality indices, lending support to the executive dysfunction and emotional disorder theories of overgeneral autobiographical memory. (Tests of the avoidance thesis of overgeneral memory were inconclusive.) Meaning making Explicit meaning making in SDMs reflected adaptive personality.
