Glioma is the most common type of primary brain tumor. Treatment options for recurrent gliomas include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, but the clinical outcome is usually limited. In recent years, circular RNAs have been found to play a vital role in several human cancers. Gene Expression Omnibus database was utilized to verify the differentially expressed circRNAs. Then we detected that the expression of circular RNA circHECTD1 was significantly increased. The expression and function of circHECDT1 has not yet been reported in glioma. Then we confirmed that the level of circHECTD1 was significantly increased both in glioma tissues and cell lines, which is negatively correlated with the overall survival of patients. Knockdown of circHECTD1 inhibited proliferation and invasion in vitro, and also reduced the growth of tumor and prolonged the prognosis in vivo. Knockdown of circHECTD1 significantly elevated the miR-296-3p expression in LN229 and T98G cells. Luciferase reports and RNA immunoprecipitation data indicated that miR-296-3p was a direct target of circHECTD1 and that the miR-296-3p expression negatively regulated SLC10A7. Rescue experiments showed that the overexpression of SLC10A7 could impede the effects of circHECTD1 silencing on the proliferation and invasion of glioma cells. In this study, we identified that circHECTD1 regulates SLC10A7 by interacting with miR-296-3p in glioma cells. In conclusion, this study investigated a novel biomarker panel consisting of the circHECTD1/miR-296-3p/SLC10A7 axis, which is critical for glioma tumorigenesis and invasiveness and may represent a novel therapeutic target for intervening in glioma progression.Plastic pollution has pervaded almost every facet of the biosphere, yet we lack an understanding of consumption risk by marine species at the global scale. To address this, we compile data from research documenting plastic debris ingestion by marine fish, totaling 171,774 individuals of 555 species. LW 6 supplier Overall, 386 marine fish species have ingested plastic debris including 210 species of commercial importance. However, 148 species studied had no records of plastic consumption, suggesting that while this evolutionary trap is widespread, it is not yet universal. Across all studies that accounted for microplastics, the incidence rate of plastic ingested by fish was 26%. Over the last decade this incidence has doubled, increasing by 2.4 ± 0.4% per year. This is driven both by increasing detection of smaller sized particles as a result of improved methodologies, as well as an increase in fish consuming plastic. Further, we investigated the role of geographic, ecological, and behavioral factors in the ingestion of plastic across species. These analyses revealed that the abundance of plastic in surface waters was positively correlated to plastic ingestion. Demersal species are more likely to ingest plastic in shallow waters; in contrast, pelagic species were most likely to consume plastic below the mixed layer. Mobile predatory species had the highest likelihood to ingest plastic; similarly, we found a positive relationship between trophic level and plastic ingestion. We also find evidence that surface ingestion-deep sea egestion of microplastics by mesopelagic myctophids is likely a key mechanism for the export of microplastics from the surface ocean to the seafloor, a sink for marine debris. These results elucidate the role of ecology and biogeography underlying plastic ingestion by marine fish and point toward species and regions in urgent need of study.
Cross-cultural comparisons that focus on underlying psychological mechanisms in disordered eating (DE) are lacking. With the aim of addressing this gap, we investigated the interplay between mentalizing, distress, and DE in two cultural groups the ultra-Orthodox and secular Jewish societies in Israel.

A combination of performance-based and self-report measures of two mentalizing-related constructs (emotional awareness and alexithymia), along with self-report measures of distress, DE, and values preferences, were employed in a community sample (N = 300) of ultra-Orthodox and secular Jewish women.

Distress predicted DE in both cultural groups, yet there were cultural differences in the moderating role of mentalizing. Both mentalizing measures moderated the distress-DE link in the secular group, but not in the ultra-Orthodox group. Furthermore, there were cultural differences in the moderating effects of self versus other mentalizing.

The results suggest cultural differences in the underlying psychological mechanism of DE.Biliary tract cancers (BTC) are rare and often diagnosed in late stages with advanced, nonresectable disease. The targeted agents panitumumab and bevacizumab have shown promising outcomes in combination with chemotherapy in other gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. We wanted to investigate if panitumumab or bevacizumab was the most promising drug to add to chemotherapy. Eighty-eight patients were randomized to combination chemotherapy supplemented by either panitumumab 6 mg/kg or bevacizumab 10 mg/kg on Day 1 in Arm A and Arm B, respectively. All patients received gemcitabine 1000 mg/m2 on Day 1, oxaliplatin 60 mg/m2 on Day 1 and capecitabine 1000 mg/m2 twice daily from Days 1 to 7. Treatment was repeated every 2 weeks until progression or for a maximum of 6 months. At progression, crossover was made to the other treatment arm. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) at 6 months. With 19 of 45 in Arm A and 23 of 43 in Arm B PFS at 6 months, the primary endpoint was not met. The overall response rate (ORR) was 45% vs 20% (P = .03), median PFS was 6.1 months vs 8.2 months (P = .13) and median overall survival (OS) was 9.5 months vs 12.3 months (P = .47) in Arm A and Arm B, respectively. Our study showed no consistent differences between adding panitumumab or bevacizumab to chemotherapy in nonresectable BTC and none of the two regimens qualify for testing in Phase III. However, we found a higher response rate in the panitumumab arm with potential implication for future trials in the neoadjuvant setting.
