Addition of 20 mM or 5 mM amino acids to 100 mg/L Ni (II)-treated strain D2 restored its growth. This study provides insights into the way to alleviate the Ni (II) toxicity in strain D2, thus contributing to the development of bioremediation strategies.Despite numerous studies on effects of environmental accumulation of nano-pollutants, the influence of nanoparticles on the biological perturbations of coexisting pollutants in the environment remained unknown. The present study aimed at elucidating the perturbations of six environmental nanoparticles on detoxification of dioxin-induced toxicity at cellular level. We discovered that there was no remarkable difference in the cell uptake and intracellular distributions of these six nanoparticles. However, they have different effects on the detoxification of 2, 3, 7, 8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) inhibited the translocation of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) from cytosol to the nucleus, leading to the downregulation of cytochrome P450 family 1 subfamily A member 1 (CYP1A1) and inhibition of detoxification function. These findings demonstrate that MWCNTs can impact the potential detoxification of dioxin-induced toxicity through modulating AhR signaling pathway. Co-exposures to MWCNTs and dioxin may cause even more toxicity than single exposure to dioxin or MWCNTs alone.
The timely and complete identification of patients' own medications (POMs) at the point of initial encounter at an emergency department (ED) or during hospital admission has been challenging globally. Hence, we aimed to make the process of complete identification of POMs more accurate and efficient, thereby allowing hospitals and emergency departments to serve incoming patients better.

We developed a new program called "Patient's In-home Medications at a Glance", which was built in a homegrown health information system (BESTCare®) to reduce the time taken by ED clinicians to identify POMs. As the system was linked to nationwide personal medication records provided by the Healthcare Insurance Review and Assessment Service in South Korea, it enabled rapid collection and compilation of patients' detailed medication history for a year by any healthcare providers.

The program development was described with a screen layout and the impact on the time required to identify patients' medication list was evaluated. Pearson's chi-squared test showed that the timely identification of POMs within 24h of an ED visit significantly improved from 26 patients in the four-month pre-intervention period to 776 patients in the three-month post-intervention period (p<0.001).

We believe that the program improved the decision-making process in the ED to establish subsequent care plans and supported healthcare professionals as an effective and responsible hands-off process.

Iron deficiency and overload during pregnancy damage to maternal and fetal health. Placenta as an organ for the transport of nutrients between mother and fetus protects fetus from the harmful effects of iron deficiency and iron overload through regulation of placental iron homeostasis.

To determine the effect of dietary iron supplementation during pregnancy on reproduction and the mechanism of placental iron regulation, we designed dietary high iron (HI 344mg/kg), medium iron (MI 40mg/kg), low iron (LI 2mg/kg) groups of pregnant female mice fed ferrous citrate 2 weeks before mating to 18.5 days of gestation.

We find dietary iron supplementation during pregnancy effect maternal liver iron, placental iron, hemoglobin and fetal iron. Dietary iron significantly improves reproductive performance as litter weight and fetal weight. Correlation analysis suggest placental iron increased with liver iron, higher and lower liver iron is not conducive to the accumulation of fetal iron, placental iron deficiency and excess reduce litter weight. Placental transcriptome analysis revealed DEGs with the same trend in HI and LI groups compared with MI group, dietary iron may change biology process of ion transport and gland development in placenta. Granzyme may affect the placental trophoblast structure prior to delivery with iron overload uniquely.

This research highlights the importance of moderate iron supplements in pregnancy due to damage of reproduction by affecting placental function under different dose of maternal iron supplementation.

Both cases had associated variable atrioventricular conduction and showed no signs of heart failure, and they converted to sinus rhythm at the time of puberty. In cases of focal atrial tachycardia originating from the pulmonary vein with onset later than 3 years of age, drug therapy may be effective. Even if drug therapy is not effective, changes in the autonomic nervous system are reflected strongly in the pulmonary veins, so that changes in autonomic nervous system regulation with growth might terminate focal atrial tachycardia. Therefore, focal atrial tachycardia originating from the pulmonary vein with onset later than 3 years of age might have a better prognosis.
Paradoxical ventriculophasic response (P-VR), a rare entity, has not been fully investigated. This study sought to compare the electrocardiographic features of P-VR and typical ventriculophasic response (T-VR).

The 12‑lead electrocardiogram (ECG) data recorded before implantation of a cardiac implantable electronic device were analyzed in patients with greater than second-degree atrioventricular block (AVB). P-VR or T-VR was defined as present if the PP interval interposing a QRS complex was prolonged or shortened, respectively, by >3% compared with the preceding PP interval without a QRS complex when a QRS complex occurred within a span of 60% of the preceding PP interval.

Of 95 patients (age 80 ± 9 years; 49 men) with heart block, 1868 instances (an instance was defined as a set of PP intervals without a QRS complex and the subsequent PP interval interposing a QRS complex) from 214 ECGs were analyzed 894 instances from 122 ECGs in 64 patients with complete AVB (cAVB) and 974 instances from 92 ECGs in 43 patients with 21 AVB (12 showed both cAVB and 21 AVB). P-VR was observed in 48 patients (51%). The position of the interposed QRS complex relative to the preceding PP interval was earlier in P-VR than in T-VR. The PP interval was shorter in P-VR than in T-VR.

P-VR was present in >50% of patients and was affected by the position of the interposed QRS complex and the PP interval.

To prospectively monitor biomechanics, session-rating of perceived exertion (sRPE), and wellness in a cohort of collegiate Division-1 cross-country athletes over the course of a single competitive season.

Prospective cohort study.

Healthy Division-1 cross-country athletes (9 males, 13 females) were prospectively followed over a single competitive cross-country season. Wearable sensors were used to collect biomechanics twice per week, along with surveys to assess sRPE and wellness. ABT-199 datasheet Mixed model linear regressions were used to assess the relationship among biomechanical measures to sRPE, and to wellness z-scores.

Stride length, contact time, impact g, pace, weekly mileage, and running a meet in the day prior to the recorded run explained 25.4% of the variance in sRPE scores across the season (R
=0.254, p<0.001). Contact time and braking g helped explain 3.7% of the variance in wellness (R
=0.037, F=5.70, p=0.01).

There were several identified associations between gait biomechanics and sRPE, yet minimal associations with wellness measures. These findings suggest there are movement adaptations associated with perceived running intensity, however biomechanical measures alone do not lend additional insight into wellness measures.

The number of randomized trials of agents targeting oncogene-addicted tumors has surged in the past 10 years. Using a meta-analysis, we explored whether improvements in objective response rate (ORR) in comparative trials using targeted agents could serve as a potential surrogate endpoint for improvements in progression-free survival (PFS) or overall survival (OS) in populations with oncogene-addicted cancer.

Using commercial text mining software I2E, we searched ClinicalTrials.gov and MEDLINE databases for randomized, phase III trials based on prospectively defined criteria, including (i) use of agents targeting EGFR activating mutations, ALK rearrangements, BRAF V600E or V600K mutations, and BCR-ABL fusion protein; (ii) molecularly enriched trial population or subpopulation; (iii) control arm only randomized to chemo/cytotoxic therapy. Correlative analyses were performed using ORR, OS, and PFS data from trials that met these criteria.

A total of 62 trials were identified; 15 metall of the prespecified ene-driven cancers. A weaker correlation was observed between ORR and OS. These meta-analysis results support the use of a high ORR forming the basis of an initial regulatory approval in biomarker-driven studies.Maintaining oxygenation and ventilation is imperative in a pregnant patient undergoing electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Here, we present the successful utilization of Trans-nasal Humidified Rapid Insufflation Ventilatory Exchange (THRIVE) in a six-month pregnant patient who received ECT under general anesthesia.Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, the causal agent of Sclerotinia stem rot, is a devastating necrotrophic pathogen which causes severe yield losses to oilseed production worldwide. Most of efforts at the genetic mitigation of the disease have not been successful. Present investigation was conducted to functionally characterize the effect of down-regulating Ssoah1 during host infection and explore the possibility of boosting host resistance by silencing this gene. We utilized host-induced gene silencing (HIGS) to silence Ssoah1 gene in the S. sclerotiorum fungus. A HIGS based vector was constructed and transformed into Arabidopsis thaliana. The pathogenicity assays in the transgenic A. thaliana lines revealed three T3 transformants with significantly higher resistance to S. sclerotiorum in comparison to untransformed controls. There was a concomitant reduction in expression of Ssoah1 and accumulation of oxalic acid in the necrotic regions of transgenic lines as compared to the non-transgenic controls. Specific Ssoah1-siRNA was highly expressed in HIGS Ssoah1 transgenic lines, as compared with WT and EV plants.
