These results demonstrate that the polysaccharides corresponding to CWPF among the water-soluble extracts of CW could be used as a beneficial herbal alternative for the development of therapeutic agents to prevent menopausal syndrome in women. In this study, native pectin (Na-Pe) was acylated with gallic acid through enzymatic method. UV-Vis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and proton NMR analyses demonstrated that the phenolic hydroxyl group on gallic acid attacked the carbomethoxy of Na-Pe and replaced the methoxy group to form a new ester group under catalysis. The galloyl content of acylated pectin prepared via 24-h reaction (Ac1-Pe) was 16.8%, while that prepared via 48-h reaction (Ac2-Pe) reached 20.7%. The emulsifying properties, antioxidation activities and antibacterial activities of acylated pectin was significantly improved compared with those of Na-Pe. The emulsion activity and emulsion stability of the pectin emulsion improved from 1.08% and 56.13% (Na-Pe) to 1.57% and 88.27% (Ac1-Pe) and 1.71% and 93.3% (Ac2-Pe), respectively. The DPPH clearance of the pectin improved from 2.68% (Na-Pe) to 68.92% (Ac1-Pe) and 76.98% (Ac2-Pe) and the inhibition ratio in the β-carotene bleaching assay of the pectin increased from 3.15% (Na-Pe) to 73.02% (Ac1-Pe) and 78.96% (Ac2-Pe). The inhibition rate of the pectin against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus also improved from 2.93% and 8.92% (Na-Pe) to 26.95% and 42.18% (Ac1-Pe) and 31.56% and 47.87% (Ac2-Pe), respectively.A functional PbO-lignin electrode hydrid material composite was designed and manufactured. Moreover, its connection efficiency was confirmed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). We noted that the superficial layers of PbO combined with layers of the biopolymer and that oxygen atoms present in both materials had influence on the chemical environment of the neighboring compound. Hence, it can be said that the addition of PbO significantly contributes to the improvement of thermal stability of the final inorganic-organic system. In the framework of the study, the dispersive, morphological and structural characteristics were determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and laser diffraction method. Electrochemical studies indicated that the PbO-lignin material exhibits better electrochemical properties compared to PbO without the addition of kraft lignin (increased capacitance, lower charge transfer resistance), as the specific capacitance after 5000 charge/discharge cycles was still at 95% of the initial value. Such promising operating parameters show that this material can be successfully used as an electrode material for energy management systems. This work synthesized chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs) by ionic gelation method using sodium tripolyphosphate pentabasic (STPP) and applied as nano-coating agent to extend the shelf life of fresh cut bell pepper (FCP) by preventing the microbial contaminations. The CSNPs were spherical shaped and 22.55 ± 1.69 d.nm sized with ζ-potential of 45.10 ± 1.42 mV confirmed by UHR-SEM, FE-TEM, and ζ-potential size analyses. The crystallinity and functional group changes were determined by XRD and FT-IR analyses respectivelly. The antioxidant activity of CSNPs was determined in terms of DPPH and ABTS scavenging activities. The 1% and 3% of CSNPs were found to be minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) respectively against all tested bacteria. The MBC of CSNPs was exhibited the promising anti-biofilm activity. Therefore, the 3% of CSNPs was used to prepare the chitosan nano-coating (CSNC), and applied on surface of FCP to prevent the microbial contaminations such as fungi, bacteria including Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella enterica. The experimental results showed that the application of CSNC was maintained the FCP for 12 days at 5 °C without loss of weight, and sensory quality. In this work, twenty-five kinds of choline chloride (ChCl)-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) containing acid, hydroxyl, amide, and binary hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) were prepared and successfully used to pretreat pine wood powder. As a result of the pretreatment, the glucan content in the pretreated biomass was increased, whereas the contents of hemicellulose and lignin were significantly decreased. Ivacaftor The biomass pretreatment efficiency of the DESs had improved with increasing the polarity and hydrogen bond acidity (α) of the DESs. Among the studied DESs, ChCllactic acidformic acid (111) with the highest α value was the most efficient DES in extracting lignin from biomass. The pretreated biomass also showed an enhanced enzymatic saccharification yield owing to the decreased particle size of the biomass and reduced content of hemicellulose and lignin. During the pretreatment process of biomass using DESs, the extracted lignin could be recovered successfully, with a yield of up to 60% and purity of over 90%. The molecular weight of the extracted lignin was much lower than that of the native cellulolytic enzyme lignin. The DES used for pretreatment process could be also successfully reused with high recovery yield of DES and high retention of delignification capacity. The partial enzymatic hydrolysis of wheat gliadins constitutes an interesting tool to unravel their structural specificity. In this work, the structure and conformation of γ-gliadin were investigated through its limited chymotrypsic digestion. Using a combination of computational, biochemical and biophysical tools, we studied each of its N and C terminal domains. Our results reveal that γ-gliadin is a partially disordered protein with an unfolded N-terminal domain surprisingly resistant to chymotrypsin and a folded C-terminal domain. Using spectroscopic tools, we showed that structural transitions occured over the disordered N-terminal domain for decreasing ethanol/water ratios. Using SAXS measurements, low-resolution 3D structures of γ-gliadin were proposed. To relate the repeated motifs of the N-terminal domain of γ-gliadin to its structure, engineered peptide models PQQPY/F were also studied. Overall results demonstrated similarities between the N-terminal domain and its derived model peptides. Our findings support the use of these peptides as general templates for understanding the wheat protein assembly and dynamics.
