Although words are often described as the basic building blocks of language, there is growing evidence that multiword sequences also play an integral role in language learning and processing. It is not known, however, whether children become sensitive to multiword information at an age when they are still building knowledge of individual words. Using a central fixation paradigm, the present study examined whether infants between 11 and 12 months (N = 36) distinguish between three-word sequences (trigrams) with similar substring frequencies but different multiword frequency in infant-directed speech (e.g., high frequency 'clap your hands' vs. low frequency 'take your hands'). Infants looked significantly longer at frequent trigrams compared to infrequent ones. This provides the first evidence that infants at the cusp of one-word production are already sensitive to the frequency of multiword sequences, and suggests they represent linguistic units of varying sizes from early on, raising the need to evaluate knowledge of both words and larger sequences during development.High efficiency photocatalysts capable of disinfecting a broad-spectrum microorganisms are needed for the practical application of photodisinfection technology. Herein, we synthesized a highly efficient photodisinfection catalyst composed of Ti3+ self-doped TiO2 decorated with carbon dots (CDs) and palladium nano-photocatalyst, designated as Pd/CDs/Ti3+-TiO2, via a facile hydrothermal-calcination approach. XPS and ESR analyses were performed to verify that the composite contained Ti3+, while TEM imaging and FTIR confirmed that the samples contained CDs. The as synthesized photocatalysts, particularly the 1% Pd/CDs/Ti3+-TiO2 sample, exhibited superior photocatalyzed antibacterial activity to pure TiO2 against E. coli (~6.5 orders of magnitude increase at 30 min). The 1% Pd/CDs/Ti3+-TiO2 photocatalyst also exhibited efficient photodisinfection of five pathogenic agricultural fungi. This study suggested that the chemical interactions between the reactive surfaces of CeO2 and reduction-active ions highly determined the stability and cytotoxicity of CeO2 NPs, which provides fundamental insights into the environmental risks of CeO2 NPs.As the first of its kind, a novel biochar/iron oxide composite (BM-Fe-HC) was successfully prepared by simply ball milling iron-laden biochar (Fe-HC). The performance and mechanisms of Cr(VI) removal by BM-Fe-HC were investigated. Ball milling effectively reduced particle size, increased specific surface area, more importantly, enhanced the distribution and increased the exposure of iron oxides on biochar surface. As a result, Cr(VI) removal by BM-Fe-HC showed fast kinetics and large adsorption capacity with the Langmuir maximum capacity of 48.1 mg/g, higher than that of other biochar/iron composites reported in the literature. Acidic pH promoted Cr(VI) removal while competition ions (Cl-, SO42- and PO43-) inhibited Cr(VI) removal by BM-Fe-HC. Comparison of pre- and post-adsorption samples revealed that iron oxides of the BM-Fe-HC played the dominant role in the adsorption and reduction of Cr(VI) during the removal. After adsorption, part of adsorbed Cr(VI) was reduced by Fe(II) and then stabilized by Fe(III) in the form of amorphous CrxFe1-x(OH)3 on the composite surface. link3 All the results demonstrate that novel ball-milled biochar/iron oxide composites can be used as an effective adsorbent to remove Cr(VI) from water.Coupling of adsorption and advanced oxidation processes triggered by metal-free carbocatalysts is an appealing wastewater purification scheme. However, its practical application is challenging due to the unsatisfactory stability of conventional heteroatom-doped systems. Herein, we innovatively developed a simple and scalable biochemical strategy to synthesize selenium and nitrogen co-doped biochar (Se/N-BC) as a bifunctional catalyst of adsorption-oxidation. The Se/N-BC displays the highest efficiency of phenol (PE) degradation (99.2% of PE was removed within 5 min) with the lowest dosage of catalyst (0.1 g L-1) and peroxymonosulfate (PMS, 0.4 g L-1). More importantly, the Se/N-BC is not only universal in a wide pH range of 3.0-11.0 and complex ionic environment, but also possesses an excellent cycling stability. The Se/N co-doping induces a rapid cycle of adsorption-degradation for PE. The Se/N-BC acts as an "electron transfer bridge", guiding rapid electron transfer from PE to PMS to achieve high-efficient degradation. The Se/N co-doping facilitates the formation of graphitic N and unlocks the potential of adjacent C sites for PMS activation, consequently boost oxidation efficiency. In addition, the oxidation of catalyst is prevented due to the antioxidant properties of Se, which has been a primary concern either to regenerate adsorbate or to enhance degradation performance.
To prospectively compare image-quality, reliability and graft sizing of a prototype self-navigated and a navigator-gated non-contrast three dimensional (3D) whole-heart magnetic-resonance-angiography (MRA) sequence with computed-tomography-angiography (CTA) for planning transcatheter-aortic-valve-implantation (TAVI).
Self- and navigator-gated 1.5 T MRA were performed in 27 patients (aged 83 ± 5 years, 41 % male) for aortic root sizing and coronary ostia height measurements; 15 (56 %) patients underwent additional CTA. Subjective-image quality was graded on a 4-point Likert scale, objective MRA image-quality was assessed by signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). Continuous MRA and CTA measurements were analyzed with regression and Bland-Altman analysis, valve sizing by kappa statistics.
Median image-quality as rated by two observers was 1.5 [interquartile range (IQR) 1-3] for self-navigated MRA and 1 [IQR 1-2] for navigator-gated MRA (p = 0.059). SNR and CNR were comparable betweeis sizing by self-navigated MRA measurements is equivalent to navigator-gated MRA and CTA-based choice.
We aimed to develop a deep learning (DL)-based algorithm for automated quantification of aortic valve calcium (AVC) from non-enhanced electrocardiogram-gated cardiac CT scans and compare performance of DL-measured AVC volume and Agatston score with those of visual gradings by radiologist readers for classification of AVC severity.
A total of 589 CT examinations performed at a single center between March 2010 and August 2017 were retrospectively included. The DL algorithm was designed to segment AVC and to quantify AVC volume, and Agatston score was calculated using attenuation values. Manually measured AVC volume and Agatston score were used as ground truth. To validate AVC segmentation performance, the Dice coefficient was calculated. For observer performance testing, four radiologists determined AVC grade in two reading rounds. The diagnostic performance of DL-measured AVC volume and Agaston score for classifying severe AVC was compared with that of each reader's assessment.

Numerous types of primary chondrosarcoma exist, namely conventional central (intramedullary), periosteal (juxta-cortical), clear cell, mesenchymal, and dedifferentiated. The biologic aggressiveness, prognosis and thus management of chondrosarcoma are dependent on the histological sub-type and grade. Accurate pre-operative diagnosis is therefore essential in determining management and outcome which requires a multidisciplinary approach taking into account clinical features, imaging findings and histopathology. In this review, we present the pertinent multimodality imaging features which aid in the differentiation of low-grade and high-grade conventional central chondrosarcoma.
To investigate the utility of post-acquisition computed diffusion-weighted imaging (cDWI) for primary prostate cancer (PCa) evaluation in biparametric whole-body MRI (bpWB-MRI).
Patients who underwent pelvic MRI for PCa screening and subsequent bpWB-MRI for staging were included. Two radiologists assessed the diagnostic performance of the following datasets for clinically significant PCa diagnosis (grade group ≥2 according to the Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System, version 2.1) bpMRI
(axial DWI scans with a b-value of 2,000 s/mm
+ axial T2WI scans from pre-biopsy pelvic MRI), computed bpWB-MRI
(computed WB-DWI scans with a b-value of 2,000 s/mm
+ axial WB-T2WI scans), and native bpWB-MRI
(native axial WB-DWI scans with a b-value of 1,000 s/mm
+ axial WB-T2WI scans). Systemic biopsy was used as reference standard.
Fifty-one patients with PCa were included. The areas under the curve (AUCs) of bpMRI
(0.89 for reader 1 and 0.86 for reader 2) and computed bpWB-MRI
(0.86 for reader 1 and 0.83 for reader 2) were significantly higher (p < 0.001) than those of native bpWB-MRI
(0.67 for both readers). No significant difference was observed between the AUCs of bpMRI
and computed bpWB-MRI
(p = 0.10 for reader 1 and p = 0.25 for reader 2).
The diagnostic performance of computed bpWB-MRI
was similar to that of dedicated pelvic bpMRI
for primary PCa evaluation. link3 cDWI can be recommended for implementation in standard WB-MRI protocols to facilitate a one-step evaluation for concurrent detection of primary and metastatic PCa.
