The current body of literature points monoterpenes as one of the determinant factors of the interaction between forests and human health. The present study aims at analyzing the monoterpene absorption by humans during a 2 -hs forest exposure in a Mediterranean holm oak forest focusing on the four most abundant monoterpene compounds alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, alpha-phellandrene and limonene. Participants' blood samples were collected before and after exposure to forest or urban environment (control). We conducted air and blood sampling using cartridges and head space method and determined the monoterpene compounds through CGMS. We identified the four compounds in forest air during the experimental study being alpha-pinene the monoterpene with the greatest concentration. Results show no significant changes in monoterpene blood concentrations for the forest and control group. However, a negative significant relationship between absorption and baseline blood concentration of the most abundant forest air monoterpenes, alpha-pinene and beta-pinene, was found in individuals visiting the forest, i.e. higher absorption was found the lower the baseline blood concentration was. Although no significant lineal correlation could be spotted between the vital variables and the monoterpene absorption, we found significant correlations between the absorption of the monoterpene compounds. This attempt, first in a Mediterranean holm oak forest, can serve as a starting point and constitute a valuable contribution for further research in regard to experimental design and laboratory analysis.
Substance use-related stigma is a significant barrier to care among persons who use drugs (PWUD). Less is known regarding how intersectional identities, like gender, shape experiences of substance use-related stigma. We sought to answer the following question Do men or women PWUD experience more drug use stigma?

Data were drawn from a systematic review of the global, peer-reviewed scientific literature on substance use-related stigma conducted through 2017 and guided by the Stigma and Substance Use Process Model and PRISMA guidelines. Articles were included in the present analysis if they either qualitatively illustrated themes related to the gendered nature of drug use-related stigma, or quantitatively tested the moderating effect of gender on drug use-related stigma.

Of the 75 studies included, 40 (53 %) were quantitative and 35 (47 %) were qualitative. Of the quantitative articles, 22 (55 %) found no association between gender and drug use-related stigma, 4 (10 %) identified women who use drugs (WWUD experienced by WWUD.Black TiO2-x has recently emerged as one of the most promising visible-light-driven photocatalysts, but current synthesis routes that require a reduction step are not compatible with cost-effective mass production and a relatively large particle such as microspheres. AZD9291 in vivo Herein, we demonstrate a simple, fast, cost-effective and scalable one-step process based on an ultrasonic spray pyrolysis for the synthesis of black TiO2-x microspheres. The process utilizes an oxygen-deficient environment during the pyrolysis of titanium precursors to directly introduce oxygen vacancies into synthesized TiO2 products, and thus a reduction step is not required. Droplets of a titanium precursor solution were generated by ultrasound energy and dragged with continuous N2 flow into a furnace for the decomposition of the precursor and crystallization to TiO2 and through such a process spherical black TiO2-x microspheres were obtained at 900 °C. The synthesized black TiO2-x microsphere with trivalent titanium/oxygen vacancy clearly showed the variation of physicochemical properties compared with those of white TiO2. In addition, the synthesized microspheres presented the superior photocatalytic activity for degradation of methylene blue under visible light irradiation. This work presents a new methodology for a simple one-step synthesis of black metal oxides microspheres with oxygen vacancies for visible-light-driven photocatalysts with a higher efficiency.ОBJECTIVE Sleep disturbances and fatigue are frequent symptoms in multiple sclerosis patients. The aim was to assess the quality of sleep (QoS) and fatigue in patients with the relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The study included 67 patients with RRMS and 85 healthy control subjects. RRMS patients, who were tested in first half of 2019, were retested in April and May 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. We collected sociodemographic and clinical data, and also used the following questionnaires Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), and Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life-54 Instrument (MSQOL-54).

The FSS score and PSQI global score were significantly higher in patients with RRMS than in the control group (p<0.01). We noticed a statistically significant difference between the results obtained a year ago and the results during the COVID-19 pandemic in PSQI global score (p<0.01) and all subscores. Higher diin support of regular screening and monitoring of fatigue and QoS in this patient population, especially during the pandemic states.
In view of the high prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and the increasing global pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 infection, it is likely that many patients with OSA get exposed to this virus. Besides theoretical assumptions, there is no evidence that OSA may favor SARS-CoV-2 acquisition or may lead to a more severe disease. Taking the opportunity of the Atahualpa Project cohort, we aimed to assess the relationship between previously diagnosed OSA and SARS-CoV-2 infection in older adults living in rural Ecuador.

SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were determined in 180 individuals aged >60 years that underwent polysomnography previously to this novel pandemic. Those with OSA remained untreated due to income limitations. Exposure-effect models were fitted with OSA as the exposure, SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity and symptomatology as the outcomes, and confounders - age, gender, obesity, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, individuals per house, home confinement - as independent variables.

A total of 87 (48%) individuals were seropositive to SARS-CoV-2, 77% of whom were symptomatic. The mean apnea/hypopnea index was 11.1±11.7 episodes per hour, with 83 (46%) individuals having mild, and 38 (21%) moderate-to-severe OSA. Exposure-effect models demonstrated lack of relationship between OSA and SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity and symptomatology.

This study shows no relationship between history of OSA and SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity or symptomatology, opposing previous suggestions that persons with OSA are more prone to acquire the infection and have a more severe disease.

To evaluate whether preoperative patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and immediate postoperative arm pain improvement can predict patient satisfaction following anterior cervical spine surgery.

A retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from 193 patients with cervical radiculopathy undergoing surgery at Aarhus University Hospital was performed. Standardized questionnaires were used to assess demographics, clinical outcomes and complications preoperatively, postoperatively and at 1-year follow-up. PROMs covered Visual Analogue Scale for arm pain (VAS-AP) and neck pain (VAS-NP), Neck Disability Index (NDI), EQ-5D 3-level version (EQ-5D-3L), and satisfaction. Immediate upper extremity pain status was assembled from medical records.

PROMs significantly improved (p<0.001) and most patients (66%) were satisfied with the surgical result at follow-up. Complications and complaints occurred in 3.6% intraoperatively, 1.5% postoperatively in-hospital, and 43% postoperatively post-discharge. Patients with a symptom duration exceeding 24 months had significantly decreased odds of being satisfied compared to patients with a symptom duration less than 3 months (OR 0.32, 95% CI 0.10-0.98, p=0.046). Neither baseline PROMs nor immediate pain improvement significantly predicted patient satisfaction. Despite being non-significant, patients experiencing immediate pain improvement had increased odds of being satisfied compared to patients not experiencing immediate improvement (OR 1.62, 95% CI 0.65-4.05).

Prolonged symptom duration and immediate pain improvement may have an impact on patient satisfaction.

Sexual dysfunction affects at least one half of patients after a stroke. Problems related to sexual function are rarely assessed or addressed by physicians.

To determine the frequency and factors associated with sexual dysfunction among stroke survivors and self-reported barriers of physicians to discuss sexual dysfunction during regular consultation.

We administered a questionnaire to a cross-sectional sample of stroke survivors to assess the frequency and factors associated with sexual dysfunction and the aspects of sexuality most commonly affected by stroke in a reference hospital in Peru. A qualitative approach was used to determine the willingness to address sexual issues and related barriers among neurology physicians participating in the study.

Among 150 patients, sexual dysfunction was identified in 89 (59%). Only 10% self-reported their sexual function as optimal. Markedly decreased frequency of sexual encounters (49%) and markedly decreased sexual desire (33%) were the aspects of sexual funcy physicians included limited time during regular consultation and the belief that this issue should be addressed under the scope of other specialties.
Sexual dysfunction affected more than a half of stroke survivors, and was significantly associated with depression, fear of having a new stroke, and with the self-perception of impaired motor function. Addressing sexual issues during the regular consult by physicians was infrequent. Barriers reported by physicians included limited time during regular consultation and the belief that this issue should be addressed under the scope of other specialties.
Several factors are commonly associated with the occurrence of post-operative infection after craniotomy. However, the risk factors associated with tumor surgery have been less intensively investigated. The aim of the present study was to analyze the risk factors for infection and categorize patients according to risk rate.

In this study, we retrospectively evaluated 987 adult patients consecutively submitted to craniotomy for tumor resection. The primary outcome was the occurrence of infection within 30 days after surgery. The following independent variables were assessed age, gender, surgery duration, length of hospital stay prior to surgery, reoperation, body mass index, serum albumin, hemoglobin, lactic dehydrogenase, smoking, diabetes, corticoid use, preoperative chemotherapy, previous irradiation, elective or urgent indication for surgery, supra or infratentorial lesion location, and tumor histology. We performed a recursive partitioning analysis to assess the relative importance of these variables in predicting infection.
