Because of the role alcohol outcome expectancies play in subsequent drinking, it is important to understand factors that can shape alcohol expectancies to guide intervention efforts. This study examined among college students whether intended social contexts for drinking were associated with positive and negative alcohol expectancies at the daily-level.

Participants included in analyses were 323 students, ages 18 to 24years, enrolled at a 4-year university in the Pacific Northwest. At four 2-week measurement bursts across one year, participants were asked each afternoon to report whether they planned to drink alcohol later that day. If so, they were further asked how much they intended to drink, whether they plan to drink alone or with others, whether they plan to drink at home or bar/party, and their positive and negative expectancies of alcohol use that evening.

A total of 2953 person-day observations from planned drinking days were used. Results from linear mixed models, adjusted for covariates including intended number of drinks, showed that students reported greater positive alcohol expectancies on days when they intended to drink with others vs. alone and intended to drink at a bar or party vs. at home. For negative expectancies, only intended drinking with others showed a statistically significant association.

This study suggests that contextual factors may shape college students' expectancies about effects of alcohol at the daily-level. Intended drinking contexts may be important to address in event-level interventions to reduce high-risk drinking in young adults.

The small size and complex geometry of the PDL space within an intact tooth-PDL-bone complex (TPBC) limits strain measurements. An in-fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor offers potential for such measurements due to its small size. This work defines an experimental procedure where strain and force were measured during quasi-static, apically directed, displacement-controlled tests on swine premolar crowns. Specifically, the inter-TPBC, intra-TPBC, and long-term repeatability after a preconditioned state was objectively identified; sensitivity to preload magnitude, TPBC alignment, and sensor depth; and reproducibility within a TPBC was determined. Data clustering was used to determine the appropriate number of preconditioning trials, ranging from one to seven. Zileuton Strain and force measurements showed intra-TPBC repeatability with average adjusted root mean square from the median of 28.9% of the peak strain and 4.5% of the peak force measurement. A Mann-Whitney U test generally found statistically significant differences in peak strain and force measurements between the left and right sides, suggesting a lack of inter-TPBC repeatability. Using a Friedman test, it was shown that peak strain measures were sensitive to the TPBC alignment and sensor depth, while peak force measures were sensitive to the preload and TPBC alignment. A Friedman test suggested reproducible strain and force measurements when the FBG was replaced within the same TPBC and the preload, alignment, and sensor depth were controlled. In patients with Alzheimer's Disease (AD), the hippocampal network has been extensively investigated in previous studies; however, little is known about the morphological network associated with the hippocampus in the AD patients. A total of 68 patients with AD and another 68 gender and age matched healthy subjects were studied. Individual-level morphological hippocampal networks were constructed based on volume and texture features extracted from MRI to study the connections between bilateral hippocampus and 11 other subcortical gray matter structures. The relationship between morphological connections and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores was also studied. Connections between bilateral hippocampus and bilateral thalamus, bilateral putamen were significant differences between the AD patients and controls (p less then 0.05). There were significantly different in bilateral hippocampal connectivity, and for the left hippocampus, the connection to the right caudate were found to be statistically significant. The morphological connections between left hippocampus and bilateral thalamus (left R = 0.371, p less then 0.001; right R = 0.411, p less then 0.001), bilateral putamen (left R = 0.383, p less then 0.001; right R = 0.348, p less then 0.001), right hippocampus and bilateral thalamus (left R = 0.370, p less then 0.001; right R = 0.387, p less then 0.001), left putamen (R = 0.377, p less then 0.001) were significantly positively correlated with the MMSE scores. Similar patterns were observed for left and right hippocampal connectivity and the connections highly associated with MMSE scores were also within the abnormal connections in AD patients.Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is a phenolic compound that has been well studied for its antiviral, anti-inflammatory and immune stimulating properties. This research was aimed to focus on the antiviral properties of CGA on infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) in vivo and in vitro for the very first time. The outcome of in vitro experiments validated that, out of five previously reported antiviral components, CGA significantly reduced the relative mRNA expression of IBV-N in CEK cells. At high concentration (400 mg/kg), CGA supplementation reduced IBV-N mRNA expression levels and ameliorated the injury in trachea and lungs. The mRNA expression levels of IL-6, IL-1β, IL-12, and NF-κB were considerably turned down, but IL-22 and IL-10 were enhanced in trachea. However, CGA-H treatment had considerably increased the expression levels of MDA5, MAVS, TLR7, MyD88, IRF7, IFN-β and IFN-α both in trachea and lungs. Moreover, CGA-H notably induced the CD3+, CD3+ CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ proliferation and significantly increased the IgA, IgG, and IgM levels in the serum.
