e findings imply that the abnormalities of the intrinsic aortic wall of CoA might develop early in utero.
To explore the association between dietary fiber and heart failure (HF).
Data were collected from the 2009-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Dietary fiber intake data were obtained from two 24-h dietary recall interviews. Logistic regression and restricted cubic spline models were used to explore the association of dietary intakes of total, cereal, fruit, and vegetable fiber with HF prevalence.
A total of 21869 adults were included in this study. After adjusting for multiple confounding factors, the odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for HF was 0.49 (0.28 to 0.87, P for trend = 0.016) for the highest tertile versus lowest tertile of total fiber intake. Similar results were observed for cereal but not fruit and vegetable fiber intake. Dose-response analysis indicated that dietary intake of total and cereal fiber were inversely associated with HF in a linear manner.
Intakes of total and cereal fiber were inversely associated with HF in adults.
Intakes of total and cereal fiber were inversely associated with HF in adults.Heart rate variability (HRV) is a reliable tool for the evaluation of several physiological factors modulating the heart rate (HR). Importantly, variations of HRV parameters may be indicative of cardiac diseases and altered psychophysiological conditions. Recently, several studies focused on procedures for contactless HR measurements from facial videos. However, the performances of these methods decrease when illumination is poor. Infrared thermography (IRT) could be useful to overcome this limitation. In fact, IRT can measure the infrared radiations emitted by the skin, working properly even in no visible light illumination conditions. This study investigated the capability of facial IRT to estimate HRV parameters through a face tracking algorithm and a cross-validated machine learning approach, employing photoplethysmography (PPG) as the gold standard for the HR evaluation. The results demonstrated a good capability of facial IRT in estimating HRV parameters. Particularly, strong correlations between the estimated and measured HR (r = 0.7), RR intervals (r = 0.67), TINN (r = 0.71), and pNN50 (%) (r = 0.70) were found, whereas moderate correlations for RMSSD (r = 0.58), SDNN (r = 0.44), and LF/HF (r = 0.48) were discovered. The proposed procedure allows for a contactless estimation of the HRV that could be beneficial for evaluating both cardiac and general health status in subjects or conditions where contact probe sensors cannot be used.
Several previous studies have reported that dyslipidemia is associated with the risk of hypertension, but these studies are mainly conducted in European and US populations, with a very few studies in the Asian population. Moreover, the effects of atherosclerotic indices, including atherogenic coefficient (AC) and atherogenic risk of plasma (AIP), on hypertension in Asians have not been well described so far.
From 2010 to 2016, altogether 211,833 Chinese adults were ultimately recruited at the health centers in 11 Chinese cities (including Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Changzhou, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hefei, Wuhan, and Nantong). Differences in continuous variables between the two groups were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney test, while those in categorical variables were examined by the Chi-squared test. PD173074 research buy Logistic regression was applied to evaluate the association between lipid profiles and the risk of hypertension. The predictive values of AC and AIP for the incidence of hypertension were analyze association, HDL-c shows a negative association, while TG is not significantly associated with the risk of hypertension. After adjusting for BMI, HDL-c turns out to be positively associated with the risk of hypertension. In addition, AC has a good predictive value for the incidence of hypertension in women.Vimentin is a type III intermediate filament protein expressed in cells of mesenchymal origin. Vimentin has been thought to function mainly as a structural protein and roles of vimentin in other cellular processes have not been extensively studied. Our current study aims to reveal functions of vimentin in macrophage foam cell formation, the critical stage of atherosclerosis. We demonstrated that vimentin null (Vim -/ - ) mouse peritoneal macrophages take up less oxidized LDL (oxLDL) than vimentin wild type (Vim +/+) macrophages. Despite less uptake of oxLDL in Vim -/ - macrophages, Vim +/+ and Vim -/ - macrophages did not show difference in expression of CD36 known to mediate oxLDL uptake. However, CD36 localized in plasma membrane was 50% less in Vim -/ - macrophages than in Vim +/+ macrophages. OxLDL/CD36 interaction induced protein kinase A (PKA)-mediated vimentin (Ser72) phosphorylation. Cd36 -/ - macrophages did not exhibit vimentin phosphorylation (Ser72) in response to oxLDL. Experiments using phospho-mimetic mutation of vimentin revealed that macrophages with aspartate-substituted vimentin (V72D) showed more oxLDL uptake and membrane CD36. LDL receptor null (Ldlr -/ - ) mice reconstituted with Vim -/ - bone marrow fed a western diet for 15 weeks showed 43% less atherosclerotic lesion formation than Ldlr -/ - mice with Vim +/+ bone marrow. In addition, Apoe -/ -Vim- / - (double null) mice fed a western diet for 15 weeks also showed 57% less atherosclerotic lesion formation than Apoe -/ - and Vim +/+mice. We concluded that oxLDL via CD36 induces PKA-mediated phosphorylation of vimentin (Ser72) and phosphorylated vimentin (Ser72) directs CD36 trafficking to plasma membrane in macrophages. This study reveals a function of vimentin in CD36 trafficking and macrophage foam cell formation and may guide to establish a new strategy for the treatment of atherosclerosis.
The integrated management was evidenced to improve the hospitalization and its associated complications in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), but the strategies of integrated care varied and results were inconsistent. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effect of integrated care on AF-related outcomes with comparison with usual care.
PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were searched for articles published until 10th January 2022. Eligible studies were randomized controlled trials to study the effect of integrated care on AF-related outcomes. Meta-analysis with a random-effect model was used to calculate risk ratio (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) by comparing the integrated care with usual care.
A total of five studies with 6,486 AF patients were selected. By synthesizing available data, integrated care effectively reduced the risk of all-cause mortality (RR = 0.54, 95% CI = 0.42-0.69), cardiovascular hospitalization (RR = 0.72, 95% CI = 0.55-0.94), and cardiovascular mortality (RR = 0.52, 95% CI = 0.36-0.78) when compared with usual care; however, there was no superior effect on preventing AF-related hospitalization (RR = 0.86, 95% CI = 0.72-1.02), cerebrovascular events (RR = 1.13, 95% CI = 0.75-1.70), and major bleeding (RR = 1.29, 95% CI = 0.86-1.94) when comparing integrated care with usual care.
Integrated care can reduce the risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and cardiovascular hospitalizations in AF patients compared with usual care, while the benefit was not observed in other outcomes.

Intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) is an important feature of unstable plaques and an independent risk factor for cardiovascular events. However, the molecular mechanisms contributing to IPH are incompletely characterized. We aimed to identify novel biomarkers and interventional targets for IPH and to characterize the role of immune cells in IPH pathogenesis.
The microarray dataset GSE163154 which contain IPH and non-IPH plaque samples was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). R software was adopted for identifying differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and conducting functional investigation. The hub genes were carried by protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and were validated by the GSE120521 dataset. CIBERSORT deconvolution was used to determine differential immune cell infiltration and the relationship of immune cells and hub genes. We confirmed expression of proteins encoded by the hub genes by immunohistochemistry and western blotting in 8 human carotid endarterectomy samples with IPH and 8dvance our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of IPH pathogenesis and provide valuable information and directions for future research into novel targets for IPH diagnosis and immunotherapy.
ITGB2 and ITGAM are key hub genes of IPH and may play an important role in the biological process of IPH. Our findings advance our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of IPH pathogenesis and provide valuable information and directions for future research into novel targets for IPH diagnosis and immunotherapy. The equilibrium between scaffold degradation and neotissue formation, is highly essential for in situ tissue engineering. Herein, biodegradable grafts function as temporal roadmap to guide regeneration. The ability to monitor and understand the dynamics of degradation and tissue deposition in in situ cardiovascular graft materials is therefore of great value to accelerate the implementation of safe and sustainable tissue-engineered vascular grafts (TEVGs) as a substitute for conventional prosthetic grafts. In this study, we investigated the potential of Raman microspectroscopy and Raman imaging to monitor degradation kinetics of supramolecular polymers, which are employed as degradable scaffolds in in situ tissue engineering. Raman imaging was applied on in vitro degraded polymers, investigating two different polymer materials, subjected to oxidative and enzymatically-induced degradation. Furthermore, the method was transferred to analyze in vivo degradation of tissue-engineered carotid grafts after 6 and 12 months in a sheep model. Multivariate data analysis allowed to trace degradation and to compare the data from in vitro and in vivo degradation, indicating similar molecular observations in spectral signatures between implants and oxidative in vitro degradation. In vivo degradation appeared to be dominated by oxidative pathways. Furthermore, information on collagen deposition and composition could simultaneously be obtained from the same image scans. Our results demonstrate the sensitivity of Raman microspectroscopy to determine degradation stages and the assigned molecular changes non-destructively, encouraging future exploration of this techniques for time-resolved quality assessment of in situ tissue engineering processes.Transthyretin amyloidosis cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) is commonly diagnosed in older adults, in particular the wild-type (ATTRwt), which is regarded as an age-related disease. With an aging population and improved diagnostic techniques, the prevalence and incidence of ATTR-CM will continue to increase. With increased availability of mortality reducing ATTR-CM therapies, patients are living longer. The predominant clinical manifestation of ATTR-CM is heart failure, while other cardiovascular manifestations include arrhythmia and aortic stenosis. Given their older age at diagnosis, patients often present with multiple age-related comorbidities, some of which can be exacerbated by ATTR, including neurologic, musculoskeletal, and gastrointestinal problems. Considerations related to older patient care, such as frailty, cognitive decline, polypharmacy, falls/mobility, functional capacity, caregiver support, living environment, quality of life and establishing goals of care are particularly important for many patients with ATTR-CM.
