With the introduction of the New Rural Social Pension Scheme (NRSPS), pension coverage in rural China has increased substantially during the last decade. We investigate how the new public pension benefits influence intergenerational transfers and subjective well-being of older adults in rural China using panel data from the 2011 and 2013 waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The results of our first-difference regression models show that receiving a public pension goes along with an increase in intergenerational financial support and has a positive impact on the subjective well-being of older adults in rural China. Our analysis represents one of the first studies examining the effects of the introduction of the NRSPS from a longitudinal perspective. The results demonstrate that public pension benefits as a form of institutional financial support are beneficial to the well-being of older adults, while they do not hinder intergenerational exchange.
Heterorhabdits indica successfully controlled apple root borer Dorysthenes huegelii in the orchards, but nematode-infected cadavers revealed the presence of non-symbiotic bacterial B. subtilis and B. licheniformis, and no subsequent generations of H. indica were produced (hampered recycling phenomenon). Intrigued, we tested the effect of the two Bacillus species on symbiotic association of H. indica-Photorhabdus luminescens.

One-to-one competitive parallel line in vitro assays were carried out between P. luminescens and the two Bacillus spp., while in vivo H. indica development was studied on the test insect Galleria mellonella which were fed with Bacillus mixed diet, followed by nematode exposure.

Where P. luminescens was flanked by either of the two Bacillus species, only B. subtilis significantly suppressed its growth, while in reversed assays both the Bacillus growth was unaffected. Heterorhabditis indica was able to kill Galleria larvae pre-fed with the two Bacillus spp.; these cadavers did not devymbiotic bacteria will reduce the overall long-term pest control benefits and have implications in the development of application strategies using entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) as insect control agents.
Meningioma recurrence rates can be reduced by optimizing surgical resection with the use of intraoperative molecular fluorescence guided surgery (MFGS). We evaluated the potential of the fluorescent tracer 800CW-TATE for MFGS using in vitro and in vivo models. It targets somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SSTR
), which is overexpressed in all meningiomas.

Binding affinity of 800CW-TATE was evaluated using [
Lu] Lu-DOTA-Tyr
-octreotate displacement assays. Tumor uptake was determined by injecting 800CW-TATE in (SSTR
-positive) NCI-H69 or (SSTR
-negative) CH-157MN xenograft bearing mice and FMT2500 imaging. SSTR
-specific binding was measured by comparing tumor uptake in NCI-H69 and CH-157MN xenografts, blocking experiments and non-targeted IRDye800CW-carboxylate binding. Tracer distribution was analyzed ex vivo, and the tumor-to-background ratio (TBR) was calculated. SSTR
expression was determined by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Lastly, 800CW-TATE was incubated on frozen and fresh meningioma specimens promising for use in MFGS and could potentially aid in safer and a more complete meningioma resection, especially in high-grade meningiomas or those at complex anatomical localizations. The misconformation and aggregation of the protein Amyloid-Beta (A[Formula see text]) is a key event in the propagation of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Different types of assemblies are identified, with long fibrils and plaques deposing during the late stages of AD. In the earlier stages, the disease spread is driven by the formation and the spatial propagation of small amorphous assemblies called oligomers. We propose a model dedicated to studying those early stages, in the vicinity of a few neurons and after a polymer seed has been formed. We build a reaction-diffusion model, with a Becker-Döring-like system that includes fragmentation and size-dependent diffusion. We hereby establish the theoretical framework necessary for the proper use of this model, by proving the existence of solutions using a fixed point method.Penalized factor analysis is an efficient technique that produces a factor loading matrix with many zero elements thanks to the introduction of sparsity-inducing penalties within the estimation process. However, sparse solutions and stable model selection procedures are only possible if the employed penalty is non-differentiable, which poses certain theoretical and computational challenges. This article proposes a general penalized likelihood-based estimation approach for single- and multiple-group factor analysis models. The framework builds upon differentiable approximations of non-differentiable penalties, a theoretically founded definition of degrees of freedom, and an algorithm with integrated automatic multiple tuning parameter selection that exploits second-order analytical derivative information. The proposed approach is evaluated in two simulation studies and illustrated using a real data set. All the necessary routines are integrated into the R package penfa.Fourteen constituents were recently isolated from the roots of Dendropanax dentiger with cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitory effects. However, the effect of 14 constituents on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and their action mechanism remain unclear. The study aimed to explore the anti-RA effect and potential mechanism of these constituents in tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α)-stimulated human RA fibroblast-like synoviocytes (MH7A cells). The cell viability, nitric oxide (NO) production, inflammatory cytokine levels, and protein expressions were measured by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), Griess reagent, ELISA, and Western blot assays, respectively. Results showed that 14 constituents (40 μM) have no cytotoxicity for MH7A cells. Among them, two phenols including 3,4-dimethoxyphenyl-1-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (DRG) and 3,4-dimethoxyphenol-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside (DAG) were shown to significantly inhibit the NO production with IC50 values of 5.25±0.34 and 5.35±0.31 μM, respectively. They also remarkably decreased the release of interleukin (IL)-2, 6, 8, and interferon (IFN)-γ, as well as prominently reduced the phosphorylation protein levels of p65, IkBα, AKT, and JNK at a concentration of 10 μM. Reversine purchase Taken together, DRG and DAG could inhibit TNF-α-induced inflammatory response through blocking NF-kB/AKT/JNK signaling pathways in MH7A cells, thus could be promising against RA and other inflammation-related agents.
The application of splenic hilar lymph node (no. 10 LN) dissection (no. 10 LND) for proximal gastric cancer (PGC) remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate the clinical relevance of no. 10 LND from the perspective of long-term survival.

The main study population included 995 previously untreated patients who underwent laparoscopic radical total gastrectomy between January 2008 and December 2014. Of these 995 patients, 564 underwent no. 10 LND (no. 10D+ group) and the remaining 431 patients did not (no. 10D- group). Propensity score-matching was applied to reduce the effects of confounding factors. The study end points were overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Additionally, 39 patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy during the same period also were included as a separate population for analysis.

The metastasis rate for no. 10 LN was 10.5 % (59/564). No significant differences were observed in intra- and postoperative complications nor in mortality between the no. 10Dis needed.
We compare planned salvage surgery after definitive chemoradiotherapy (SALV) versus neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy plus surgery (NCRS) for borderline resectable T4 esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

A total of 37 patients underwent planned SALV, and 20 underwent NCRS from 2004 to 2017. The short-term outcome measures were the R0 resection rate, complications, and treatment-related mortality. The long-term outcome measures were the 5-year overall survival rate and causes of death.

R0 resection rate was similar between the SALV and NCRS groups (81% versus 85%). The incidence of postoperative pneumonia (35% versus 18%) and treatment-related mortality rate (9% versus 0%) tended to be higher in the SALV. ypT grade 2-3 (65% versus 30%, p = 0.012) and Clavien-Dindo grade ≥ IIIb complications (32% versus 0%, p = 0.008) were significantly more frequent in the SALV group. The groups had similar 5-year overall survival (26% versus 27%). The causes of death in the SALV and NCRS groups were primary esophageal cancer in 35% and 55% of patients, respectively, and pulmonary-related mortality in 24% and 5%, respectively. Multivariable Cox regression analysis revealed the following significant poor prognostic factors stable disease as the clinical response, preoperative body mass index (BMI) of < 18.5 kg/m
, ypN stage 1-3, and R1-2 resection.

SALV was associated with a higher incidence of late pulmonary-related mortality but had a stronger antitumor effect than NCRS. Consequently, the survival rate was similar between the groups. Surgery is recommended for patients with a partial response and preoperative BMI of ≥ 18.5 kg/m

Most frequent borderline ovarian tumors are serous and mucinous subtypes. Less frequent borderline diseases are endometrioid, clear-cell, and Brenner tumors (BBOT). Very little is known about the latter subtype, and most studies include very short series or case reports. The aim of this study is to determine the prognosis of a continuous series of BBOT and analyze data published in the literature on this rare entity.

A retrospective review of patients with BBOT treated or referred to our institutions was conducted. A centralized histological review by a reference pathologist and data on the clinical characteristics, management, and outcomes of patients were required for inclusion.

Overall, 17 patients were identified. Median age was 62 (range 42-85) years. Six patients underwent unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and 11 bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy +/- hysterectomy and/or staging surgery. In total, 16 patients had unilateral tumor, and all patients had stage I disease. Stromal microinvasion was observed in three cases. Median follow-up was 60 months (range 7-118 months). One patient developed a recurrence in contralateral ovary after unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. One patient had previous history of urothelial tumor.

Peritoneal staging surgery is not required because all patients reported had stage I disease. One recurrence occurred. When reviewing all the 82 cases reported in the literature (including ours), 9% had previous history or synchronous urothelial tumor, suggesting the need to carefully check for urological disease in patients with BBOT.
