Mid Bunk Bed
Mid bunk beds feature a raised sleeping area with space underneath for storage or a desk and are popular with children from preteens. They also have more versatility than loft beds, as they can be made into two separate singles.
Some are constructed with a ladder and small steps that lead up to the top bunk bed. They're also extremely durable.
Safety
Despite their popularity, bunk beds are usually associated with a dangers, especially for children. Each year thousands of kids are treated in hospitals for injuries that result from bunk and loft bed usage the majority of which are minor. The most common bunk bed accidents happen when children play on or around their beds, and a significant proportion of them involve falling off the top bunk. There are a variety of ways to reduce the risk, and keep your children safe in the evening.
You must first select a bunk bed that is in compliance with all safety standards. Guardrails should extend at a minimum of 3.5" on both sides of the bed and should be fixed to prevent children from falling. The ideal guardrails should be at least 5 inches higher than the mattress foundation to provide further protection from falls. Similarly, the ladder should be secure and firmly fixed to the bunk bed frame. The ladder steps must also be constructed of sturdy materials and have wide, well-secured treads to avoid falling. Also, you should educate your children on proper use of bunk beds starting from the first day. This includes not playing in or around the bunk beds, and sleeping only in them and keeping your belongings and body within the safety rails.
Other easy steps that can drastically reduce the risk of bunk bed accidents is to ensure that the ladder isn't being used as a climbing frame, and no ropes or belts are connected to the beds; these could become strangulation hazards. To reduce the risk of hitting ceiling lights or fans when climbing the ladder, you should keep the ladder from them. It is also recommended to periodically inspect the bunk bed for signs of wear, particularly any squeaks. These could indicate damaged or loose parts that could affect the safety or stability of the bed.
Beware of DIY bunk bed kits, because they may not be compliant with the latest safety standards. When buying a bunk bed, always consult the manufacturer's instructions and ask about any safety features that might be available.
Space
A mid bunk bed is lower than a loft or high sleeper, which means the space underneath can be used to store things or even a bed. This is a great choice for small spaces or kids who require more space for studying or sleeping.
There's usually room for a desk or bookcase, in the side of a bed. This is great for homework and storage. Certain models feature a closet with a low height that is ideal for clothes for toddlers as well as cubbies to store toys, books and other bits and pieces.
The best mid bunk beds also come with an escalator that leads to the loft that sleeps and eliminates the necessity for ladders and making it easy for children to get in and out of bed. Some mid bunk beds have windows that peek out, adding a playful element to the space.
Some models also come with the option of a futon or sofa that pulls out which creates a cozy lounge space that's ideal for family movie nights as well as socializing with friends. Some models have an adjustable workstation that is ideal for kids who struggle to concentrate on their schoolwork or homework.
Many of our bunk beds are made from strong, sturdy metal or wood. Wood gives an elegant, classic look, while metal gives you the added benefit of durability and easy maintenance. To keep the surface looking fresh, simply wipe it down.

It can be easily tucked into a corner when not in use. midi bed with storage include cubbies or low-height wardrobes that are great to store toys and clothes.

Many mid-sized bunk beds can be converted into separate singles at a later time, so your children can continue to enjoy their favourite bunk when they get older. The Oliver Furniture Wood Low Bunk Bed for instance, has a conversion kit that allows it to be converted into either one or a queen size bed, making this an ideal investment for any family.
While a mid bunk bed is a great choice for the majority of families, there are some children who struggle with the higher sleeping position or find the ladders/steps a bit intimidating. If this is the case with your child, it's always best to steer them towards a cabin bed that they can hop in and out of easily or a daybed that offers an easier option.
