Consent was obtained per institutional guidelines for the emergent procedure and the video recording. The video demonstrates a direct aspiration thrombectomy technique for the treatment of stroke. The patient successfully underwent direct aspiration thrombectomy with a TICI 3 (thrombolysis in cerebral infarction) recanalization.

Describe postnatal growth in a cohort of very low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants and determine the association of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in umbilical cord blood with growth at 40 weeks and 12 months postmenstrual age (PMA).

Single-centre, prospective cohort study conducted from 1 June 2017 to 31 January 2019 with follow-up to 31 March 2020. Infants <1500 g at birth were enrolled, cord blood collected for IL-6 and TNF-α assays and postnatal care, including anthropometry, provided to 12 months PMA. Informed consent and ethics approval were obtained.

In total, 279 patients were enrolled; 84 (30.1%) died before 12 months and 91 (32.6%) lost to follow-up. Anthropometry was available for 151 infants at 40 weeks and 105 at 12 months. Z-Scores at 40 weeks for males and females combined were -2.5, -2.1 and -1.2 for weight, length and head circumference. EUGR occurred in 103/113 (91.2%), 98/107 (91.6%) and 70/109 (64.2%) participants for weight, length and head circumference. Elevated IL-6 was associated with restricted weight (56.0 vs. 14.5 pg/ml, p = 0.02) and length (60.4 vs. 7.3 pg/ml, p = 0.01) at 40 weeks. There was no difference in IL-6 at 12 months and no difference in TNF-α at 40 weeks or 12 months.

This prospective study aimed to determine the diagnostic yield of BALs in immunocompromised children over the first 18 months of service at a newly established children's hospital. Relationship between BAL results and changes in antimicrobial management was also studied. Twenty-one bronchoscopic BALs were performed on 18 children; 14 BALs (66.7%) yielded at least 1 pathogen and 7 (33.3%) yielded no pathogen. Two pathogens were found in 2 samples, and 1 pathogen was identified in 12 samples. Bacteria (n = 7 patients), viruses (n = 8 patients) and fungus (Pneumocycstis jirovecii in one patient) were yielded. Of the 21 BALs, 8 (38.1%) were associated with changes in antimicrobial management (Fisher's exact test, p = 0.018). No significant side effects such as pneumothorax or pulmonary hemorrhages were observed in this series. In conclusion, BAL in immunocompromised children is rewarding and has potential to impact on antimicrobial management.
Acute mosquito-borne febrile diseases pose a threat to children in the Sub-Saharan-Africa with ∼272000 children dying worldwide from malaria in 2018. Although the awareness for malaria in this area has increased due to improved health education, the apparent decline of actual malaria cases has not affected clinical practice significantly. This study collected clinical and epidemiologic data of children presenting with acute febrile diseases in order delineate their diagnostic and therapeutic management.

A hospital-based cross-sectional clinical study was conducted at the Sekou Toure Regional Referral Hospital in Tanzania. Acute neuropathic pain is a significant diagnostic challenge, and it is closely related to our understanding of both acute pain and neuropathic pain. Diagnostic criteria for acute neuropathic pain should reflect our mechanistic understanding and provide a framework for research on and treatment of these complex pain conditions.

The Analgesic, Anesthetic, and Addiction Clinical Trial Translations, Innovations, Opportunities, and Networks (ACTTION) public-private partnership with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the American Pain Society (APS), and the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) collaborated to develop the ACTTION-APS-AAPM Pain Taxonomy (AAAPT) for acute pain. A working group of experts in research and clinical management of neuropathic pain was convened. Group members used literature review and expert opinion to develop diagnostic criteria for acute neuropathic pain, as well as three specific examples of acute neuropathic pain conditions, using the five dimensions of the AAAPT classification of acute pain.
