The role of pharmacists in healthcare is undergoing transformation throughout the world. Z-VAD-FMK price The continuing professional development (CPD) model has motivated pharmacists in developed countries to adopt lifelong learning. This is vital to improve competence and to optimize patient care. This study aimed to explore the existence and understanding of CPD in Ghana, Pakistan, and Trinidad and Tobago, the barriers faced in development of a CPD model, and probable policies needed to build/improve such a model.
Audiotaped qualitative in-depth interviews were conducted, transcribed, and coded with pharmacy stakeholders, including academics, community pharmacists, and regulatory professionals. A thematic analysis of the transcribed data led to the extraction of the main themes.
The findings showed a process of establishment of CPD for pharmacists in Ghana, whereas in Pakistan, Trinidad, and Tobago there was no CPD model.
These findings indicate the need for a realistic, relevant, and mandatory program of CPD in these countries.

Minor ailments services (MASs) are pharmacy-based and support individuals to manage minor conditions. MASs are delivered by community pharmacists and non-pharmacist staff. Limited information exists regarding education, training, assessment requirements, and suitability of existing processes to support MAS delivery. The purpose of this study was to determine consensus amongst multiple stakeholder participants regarding these processes.
A modified Delphi process was utilized. Phase 1 consisted of stakeholder participants completing two rounds of an online questionnaire responding to Likert-items (Round 1 [R1] [n=46]; Round 2 [R2] [n=34]). Phase 2 consisted of three teleconference rounds discussing items that did not achieve consensus in the previous two rounds. Consensus was defined as ≥80% panel agreement.
Forty MASs stakeholders participated in the study. MASs stakeholder participants included community pharmacists (n=7), pharmacy student graduate pharmacist (n=4), non-pharmacist staff (n=13), faculty staff/academics (n=5), general practitioners (n=5), and individuals affiliated with pharmacy professional organizations (n=6). Consensus was achieved on 22 of 46 statements in R1, 8 of 34 statements in R2, and 21 of 27 statements in Phase 2.
It may be useful for MAS education and training to consider the clinical and non-clinical elements of service delivery. Training should be available to all community pharmacy staff. The results of this study may be useful to policymakers and professional organizations to enhance existing curricula or inform training guidelines for MAS delivery.

This pilot study investigated the impact of practice integrated, post-laboratory assessment on the scientific education and attitudes of first-year pharmacy students. Median assessment performance, achievement of full marks, and engagement in laboratory classes were evaluated.
The pilot randomised cross-over study was conducted at the University of Central Lancashire. Students were randomly assigned to two groups, and after undertaking four identical pharmaceutics laboratory classes, answered two science-based questions that were either integrated with practice using a contextualizing scenario or had no integration. Student performance and engagement were subsequently analysed.
Thirty students completed the study. Students performed better in the integrated assessment (median 3.5; interquartile range [IQR] 2.00-4.00) compared to the non-integrated assessment (median 2; IQR 1.75-3.00) (P<.001). Twenty-five students (83%) achieved full marks with the integrated assessment (P=.006). Correlation (R
) for the integrated assessment was 0.90 and for the non-integrated assessment was 0.12. Engagement was positive in both groups but significantly improved in the domains of "instructor contribution" and "value of activity" (P=.01) when receiving the integrated assessment.

Pharmacy education has evolved from focusing on knowledge alone to highlighting personal and professional growth. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of a newly constructed computer-based decision support system (DSS) on the basis of artificial intelligence technology and designed to plan treatment for patients with a deep overbite.
With the help of information technology, a DSS was developed specifically for treatment planning of deepbite malocclusion. The program inputs were the components and the contributing factors used commonly by the orthodontic clinicians in deepbite diagnosis. The program outputs were the treatment planning options for deepbite treatment. A total of 357 decisions made by the algorithm were evaluated for accuracy by comparing them to the actual treatment changes of 51 patients with a well-treated deepbite.
The decisions made by the algorithm were precise, with 94.4% having a very good agreement with actual treatment changes determined using Cohen's kappa coefficient.
The constructed DSS was shown to be an efficient tool for planning treatment of deep overbite malocclusion in the permanent dentition; thus, the artificial intelligence could be used to formulate a customized plan for orthodontic clinicians.

Five patients with cystic renal cell carcinoma were treated with microwave ablation between October 2015 and June 2020. Medical records were reviewed to evaluate technique and complications. Technical success and primary technique efficacy both were 100%. There were no complications. Mean follow-up time was 18 months (range, 6-36 months). No local recurrence was identified during the follow-up period. Renal function remained stable at 1 month and the last follow-up.
