When adjusted for age there was no significant correlation between left ventricle parameters and HbA1c.

Atrial conduction delay and impairment of ventricular repolarization were significantly high and there was a predisposition for the development of pulmonary artery hypertension in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Poor glycemic control was not a risk factor for propensity of left ventricle hypertrophy and left ventricle dysfunction.

The long-term prognosis of those with a history of Kawasaki disease (KD) is still unknown.

Using a permanent registry system in Japan (koseki), 6,576 persons with a history of KD were followed up. The average follow-up period was 30 years. The endpoint was death.

With a 99.5% follow-up rate, 68 deaths (48 males and 20 females) were observed. The overall standardized mortality ratio, of which reference was vital statistics in Japan, was not elevated. However, the observation according to the presence or absence of cardiac sequelae showed that the standardized mortality ratio for those with cardiac sequelae significantly elevated. Nine persons, all of whom were males, died of KD (including those cases where KD was suspected), but all deaths occurred in individuals who were under 30 years of age.

This study revealed the long-term prognosis for KD, but almost all participants were younger than 40 years. Continuing follow up of this cohort is required to clarify whether a history of KD relates to the development of atherosclerosis when participants become middle aged or older.

Drug utilization evaluation (DUE) is a systematic, criteria-based assessment of medicine that aims to optimize the appropriateness of antibiotic prescription. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the DUE on prescriptions of two commonly used antibiotics in a pediatric population, cefepime and piperacillin/tazobactam, in a tertiary care hospital.

This quasi-experimental study was conducted at the Department of Pediatrics, Ramathibodi Hospital, between March 2020 and August 2021. All hospitalized children aged 1 month to 20 years who received at least one dose of cefepime or piperacillin/tazobactam were enrolled. Before implementing the DUE, cefepime and piperacillin/tazobactam prescriptions were retrospectively evaluated using the DUE criteria. During the 6 month DUE implementation period, physicians voluntarily chose to use DUE to assess the prescriptions' appropriateness. Demographic data, antibiotic use, and clinical data were recorded.

There were 304 prescriptions of cefepime and piperacild with UTIs appeared to be associated with inappropriate empirical treatment.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the standard values for gender- and age-stratified serum pepsinogen (sPG) in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) non-infected children and to determine the optimal cut-off values of sPG for predicting H. pylori-infected gastritis in children.

A prospective study for determination of sPG levels was performed in children with epigastric pain who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy over the past 16 years. After excluding subjects diagnosed with inflammatory bowel diseases, eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders, or immunoglobulin A vasculitis, the diagnosis of H. pylori infection was defined by positive tissue culture or concordant-positive results for histology and the rapid urease test.

A total of 405 subjects were diagnosed as being H. pylori-infected (79) or non-infected (326). In the H. pylori non-infected group, there were no significant differences in sPG levels among age groups; males had higher sPG I and sPG II levels than females. In the H. pylori-infected group, sPG I and sPG II levels were significantly higher and the sPG I/II ratio was lower than those in the non-infected group. In receiver operating characteristics analyses in diagnosing H. pylori infection, the areas under the curves for sPG I, sPG II and sPG I/II ratio were 0.896, 0.980, and 0.946, respectively. The optimal cut-off value of sPG II of ≥9.0 ng/mL was considered positive for H. pylori infection (sensitivity 92.4%, specificity 93.9%).

The optimal cut-off value of sPG II of ≥9.0 ng/mL may be a good predictor of H. pylori-infected gastritis in children.

Due to the upsurge of COVID-19, nations are increasingly adopting telemedicine programs in anticipation of similar crises. Similar to all nations worldwide, Jordan is implementing efforts to adopt such technologies, yet it is far from complete.

This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of Jordanians toward telemedicine, to identify key factors predisposing individuals to its use or acting as barriers to its implementation.

We implemented a cross-sectional design using an online, self-administered questionnaire executed in Google Forms and distributed through social media. Differences in knowledge and attitude scores were examined using independent sample t tests and ANOVA. A multivariate linear regression model was computed to assess predictors of awareness toward telemedicine.

A total of 1201 participants fully completed the questionnaire. Participants were characterized by a mean age of 36.3 (SD 14.4) years and a male-to-female ratio of nearly 11. About 50% (619/1201, 51.5%telemedicine within the health care system is not applicable due to limited resources.
Jordanians portray favorable perceptions of telemedicine. Nonetheless, concerns with regards to privacy, medical errors, and capacity for accurate diagnoses are prevalent. Furthermore, Jordanians believe that integrating telemedicine within the health care system is not applicable due to limited resources.
This study was performed to describe physical activity behavior and its demographic associations in a peri-urban population from Mozambique, using device-based data.

Physical activity was assessed by pedometers in a sample of 15- to 64-year-old subjects from Maputo, Mozambique. Participants wore a pedometer for 7 consecutive days, and physical inactivity was classified using a variety of approaches sedentary (<5000steps/d), physically inactive (<7500steps/d), and no moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA < 1min/d).

The percentage of sedentary subjects was 17.8%, and the percentage who were physically inactive was 41.8%. A total of 9.0% of participants participated in no MVPA (<1min/d). Logistic regression analysis showed that females had a higher odds of being sedentary or inactive and having no MVPA compared with males. BMS-986278 order Unemployed participants were more sedentary and inactive than those who were employed. Socioeconomic status and body mass index did not show any significant association with physical activity.

Findings suggest that physical activity levels of this peri-urban African city population are insufficient relative to the amount of activity recommended to improve health. Moreover, being sedentary and inactive was associated with occupation and gender but not with other sociodemographic characteristics and body mass index.

Although attention has been directed at concussion management following injury, less is known about the association between cognition and balance during preseason screening. The purpose of the study was to assess the relationship between balance and neurocognition among collegiate male lacrosse players and to examine predictive determinants of postural stability. Participants included a convenience sample of 49 male collegiate Division 3 lacrosse players who completed a demographic survey and performed the immediate postconcussion test (ImPACT) and instrumented Sensory Organization Test (SOT). There was a significant association between balance SOT performance and both verbal memory (r = .59, p less then .01) and visual motor speed scores (r = .43, p less then .05). Significant correlations between verbal memory and SOT Conditions 2, 5, and 6 were also noted (all p less then .05). Verbal memory predicted 33% of the variance in the SOT composite balance score (p less then .001). Our results indicate a significant relationship exists between postural stability and both verbal memory and visual processing speed among collegiate male lacrosse players and supports vestibulocortical associations. Findings warrant ongoing performance and executive function tracking and can serve as a conduit for integrated sensorimotor and dual-task training.
Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) is a validated surrogate marker of atherosclerosis that is independently associated with the risk for cardiovascular disease. Recent studies on the effect of exercise on cIMT have yielded conflicting results.

Studies that were available up until October 30, 2021 from the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science databases were included in the analysis. Subgroup analyses were performed to determine the effects of the type, intensity, and duration of exercise on cIMT.

This review included 26 studies with 1370 participants. Compared with control participants, those who engaged in exercise showed a decline in cIMT (weighted mean difference [WMD] -0.02; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.03 to -0.01; I2 = 90.1%). Participants who engaged in aerobic (WMD -0.02; 95% CI, -0.04 to -0.01; I2 = 52.7%) or resistance (WMD -0.01; 95% CI, -0.02 to -0.00; I2 = 38.5%) exercise showed lower cIMT compared with control participants. An exercise duration of >6months was associated with a 0.02mm reduction in cIMT. In participants with low cIMT at baseline (<0.7mm), exercise alone was not associated with a change in cIMT (WMD -0.01; 95% CI, -0.03 to 0.00; I2 = 93.9%).

Exercise was associated with reduced cIMT in adults. Aerobic exercise is associated with a greater decline in cIMT than other forms of exercise. Large, multicenter, randomized controlled trials are required to establish optimal exercise protocols for improving the pathological process of atherosclerosis.
